Hole-in-the-wall, great value!…read more I walked up to the counter and showed the guy a photo from Yelp -- he was cool with it lol Halbes Hähnchen (1/2 roasted chicken) Pommes (fries) Curry ketchup -- it's like a sweet gravy. I wanted to get brown gravy on my fries but I don't think he would have done it haha Super affordable. Delicious and very filling!

The Neustädter Grill Meier is a no frills German fast food joint in the Wexstrasse, frequently…read morevisited by office workers in the area. It has all the usual menu items you will find at any other German Imbiss like Bratwurst (grilled sausage), Currywurst (sausage in a sweet, curry-spiced ketchupy sauce), Schnitzel, fries, Halbes Hähnchen (1/2 roasted chicken), potato salad but also other meals such as goulash with mashed potatoes. I mostly opt for the large Currywurst with Fries. Even though the sausage is not grilled (since this place doesn't have grill, everything is deep fried) it's good and the sauce (not self-made) also does it's work. Fries come in a well-sized portion and are hot and crisp. Those of you who want a no frills German Imbiss with acceptable prices should spend their lunch here. Unfortunately this place is closed on weekends, so I have to find another joint to satisfy my rare Imbiss cravings

Anyways, Lucullus is an awesome 24 hour currywurst stand located right on the Reeperbahn. Schorsch's Currywurst got a ton of rave reviews both in the press and by Yelpers, so I was curious…read more A typical low-end 'Imbiss' on the inside, with standing room for max. 3-4 people comfortably. Sausages and Schaschlik (Shish-Kebab) bathe in a lot of frying oil. The curry sauce they use is really a glorified tomato sauce with very little curry flavour or anything else in it. Some people seem to be happy that they can taste of the tomatoes so clearly, but that's not the point of a ketchup or curry sauce. So ... be aware they don't really serve Currywurst here, but sausage in tomato sauce. If that's your thing, perfect, it isn't expensive either. I didn't find it tasteful or interesting.

As of today this…read moreplace is pretty much the top takeaway establishment on Qype-Hamburg, so we had to come check it out. In fact, we walked all the way from Gänsemarkt! Upon arrival, I was pleased to see that it's a completely traditional German take-away, specialising in such things as curry wurst and roasted chickens. Going for the trad experience I had the groß curry wurst with fries (see photos) and it was excellent. It was also the spiciest thing I've eaten during my time in Germany. Like most places in Germany, they also serve beer. One thing this place definitely isn't is fine eating. They don't even have tables, just a (very) small bar that you can stand to eat at. There's only enough room to fit about 5 people at it! One notable thing about the trip was that the other two guys eating at the bar had also found the place using Qype! Unfortunately they were passive users - maybe we will have convinced them to write a review or two? Anyway it's interesting to see the reach of Qype in the community. Lutt'n Grill had the fliers on display and their top-in-qype sticker :)

Their roasted half chicken are a pretty good deal, but other items like the (deep fried) curry sausages really don't hold up the candle.
