I had the DiCoFi Banh Mi. Wasn't that happy with the crunch of the bread. Im used to the yummy crunch that makes the sandwich different from all the rest. Wasn't a satisfied customer today. On the other hand, coffee was pretty great. Had the iced Vietnamese coffee and that was yummy.

I totally loved DiCofi. It looked so unassuming and plain from the outside, but it was cozy and nice once you were inside. DiCofi has a pretty straightforward menu, which totally works to their advantage. Even the way they present their food is pretty spartan. However, once you taste their coffee and food, everything changes. Their coffee is pretty much what I've come to expect from Vietnamese Coffee: Strong and flavorful. DiCofi's coffee was very much on point, with a velvety texture that I really, really like. I also had their Bahn Mi. They only had one version of it, but oh my goodness, it was so wonderful. If anything, DiCofi just got another regular customer. This is one place I want to go back to again and again.

Something light but flavorful, try the Vietnamese Pizza.

I've been a big fan discovering hole-in-the-wall food joints. And quite recently, this small Vietnamese Cafe just opened inside Makati. What are the chances in easily discovering the place? Let's just say its located in one of the off beaten streets of Makati. Just follow the map and you're safe. The coffee serving is just right. It actually reminded of the Vietnamese coffee you'll order in the streets of Hanoi. I remember writing a post that explains the place is the real deal when you see local diners. It was the first time I saw Vietnamese community flocking inside. Don't get me wrong, it was great cause those folks are lovable and hospitable (okay fond memories of Vietnam). As a Vietnamese Cafe, it was one of the simplest and straightforward shops in Makati. I love everything about it cause it's nothing fancy but you'll get what you expect for good Vietnamese crub. Actually, I can't wait to visit and try their sticky rice again!

Many establishments purport to serve authentic culinary experiences from foreign countries or cultures--except that their offerings are far from authentic. It's a different story for this charming coffee shop. Ran by young Vietnamese expats, Dicofi whips up real Vietnamese coffee, banh mi, fruit shakes, and other favorites from the owners' home country. They even serve Vietnamese pizza. Their coffee drinks truly pack a punch. I would experience palpitations after drinking their drip coffee, which can be ordered hot or over ice. The banh mi brings me back to my trip to Hanoi. What's more, the owners are very accommodating. They are happy to mingle with customers. On the downside, Dicofi has a very limited space. The tables and chairs are small, typical in Vietnam sidewalk diners. Perfect time to visit is late afternoon or evening. Question is, could you still sleep after downing a strong brew? Parking slots are limited on the street in front.

Weird wooden bugs on a stick-- an interesting way to decorate their white walls.

I've been hearing about DiCofi for quite a while but I've only tried them out tonight. I've always been a big fan of the traditional banh mi-- but DiCofi's changed my mind about that. They only serve one kind of banh mi, but it seems like it's good enough for everyone who's patronizes that place. It strays away from the normal banhmi's in used to because it's spicy. It has a sausage, egg and pork floss. But one thing never changes: the delicious, crunchy and warm baguette that serves as the bread for the banh mi, a product of French colonialism in Vietnam. I'm pretty sure that the place was quiet because it was nearly closing time, and there were only two other customers apart from me, and I'm assuming that they were Vietnamese cause they were talking to the owner like old friends. Apart from the stellar yummy, I love how the place was sparsely furnished, and the simple decor of the place. The hairs and tables were simple and wooden, a nice offset to the cream/white walls. I would definitely come back and the only reason I'm giving it a 4/5 is I haven't tried their coffee yet. Will definitely update my review when I've come back to try the coffee, as well as the Vietnamese pizza!

With that said, I like the appetizing clean herby flavor of the base broth and regardless if you are having white or red meat with it, the freshness always stands out. I am no chef but it seems to me that this is a case where you can't have too much herb in your soup. The space is a bit cramped and service is soso - considering that there are only a handful of tables to wait on. Nonetheless, this is still one of places I'd go to whenever I want a steamy bowl of soup.

The place has air conditioning which makes it a plus as you try to get out of the heat. Seating is super tight which makes it a bit hard to navigate when the diner gets busy. Place was 4 stars at best, but it bad to knock a star off due to the slow service and items that were on the menu but not available. As proof for this foodie, I think I've eaten here a few dozen times, even though I haven't lived in Manila for over 10 years. Run by a competent friendly pinay Jane and other supervisors, on the 2nd or mezzanine floor overlooking the main atrium of this large mall, Pho Bao is really well worth your well-spent cash. Their Vietnamese pho soups and Thai/Viet stews are really good with flavour ingrained in the broth, with quality noodles, lots of tasty tender beef, fresh basil leaves, and competent service. You will leave filled. The prices have edged up over time, but that is standard in much of the food industry all over the world. What's very interesting is that Pho Bao is better than most of the Vietnamese restos in one Canadian province: after checking out and eating in about 20 Viet venues in Calgary (1.3 million people), we only found one to be exemplary (Pure Contemporary Vietnamese Kitchen), only one other to be good, and the rest just playing games with ignorant westerners. In fact, if you want better in the Phils, likely one has to go to Troi Oi in Iloilo City (not hard for a google maps and a taxi to find). Thus, given too many imposters who don't care, it may be a fair assumption to say that it's rare to find a truly great Vietnamese restaurant in any 'foreign' country. So come to Pho Bao for some good nourishment as one of the best casual little restaurants in the country. I don't think you will be disappointed. Just inside the main entrance off Pedro Gil, walk past the competition to this simple place on the 2nd floor and enjoy?

We ended up going to this restaurant after searching for a good bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup in Manila and ended up choosing Pho bon due to location and pictures from Yelp. As we entered during lunch the place was fairly crowded but still managed to find a seat. The restaurant serves up bowls of pho, rice dishes, and even has Vietnamese Sandwiches. I ended up getting the pho with well done brisket and since I was super hungry that day I also chose the banh Mi bo kho which was Vietnamese beef stew with French bread. The food came out quick and was looking esquisite! The Pho was beautifully garnished with thinly sliced green onions, cilantro, and sliced white onions with slices of fatty brisket laying over a bed of wide pho noodles. The freshly cracked ground pepper aroma coming up below the piping hot broth got me really excited to try this Vietnamese dish while eating it in the Phillipines. I was also accomodated with fresh herbs of Thai basil, Corriander, and thin bean sprouts and a side dish of chili and hoison sauce with limes. The soup was light in broth but yet flavorful but I felt it was lacking in the fresh herbs and spices such as the star anise, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. The noodles were cooked al dente and I enjoyed chewing on them while slurping the broth. The banh mi bo kho was also another great dish to eat while dipping the fresh Vietnamese French bread into the soup with the nice cuts of stewed beef and vegetables. The flavor was yet light but also had a great taste and I really enjoyed this dish as well. Overall great expierence eating here while the food was on point but yet had its differences but also tasty. Customer service was great and the prices were very affordable for famiy dining or just eating with a friend. I totally reccomend this place to anyone looking to eat Vietnamese food in PI while traveling here.

You have the option of sitting indoors or stay outdoors where you can smell them grilling pork for the Pho. On rare occasions, the owner will play her favorite Vietnamese songs in the restaurant. I always go for their Pho Bo Nam (Well Done Beef Brisket noodles) and it's only Php185. The meat was tender and the broth was light yet very flavorful. With the Pho, you get the bean sprouts, white onions and coriander plus the Sriracha! I've also tried their Bánh mì. It's actually pretty good but, sometimes, their bread is not crunchy which is an essential factor when eating a Bánh mì. You must try their Vietnamese drip coffee.
