I usually shop at another location that is closer to me, but this location had what I was looking for. This location is more convenient/easier to get to than the old one I remember down the street. The selection is great. My first store before this had zero of what I was looking for. This location had several varieties and price points to shop from. I was happy with the shooting experience.

This store recently moved into a newly-renovated space at Rhode Island Mall. The new location is a little more convenient to get to than the old location, which was further south on Bald Hill Road. There is also more parking. I happened to be driving right by there this afternoon, so I stopped in to get tennis balls for my dog to fetch. My first impression is that the new store seems a larger. I'm not sure if it actually is; maybe the ceilings are higher or something. The merchandise layout is roughly the same as the old store. One thing that is different is the fishing/hunting section is not walled off from the other departments. But, the new store seems cold, sterile and impersonal, as if the merchandise is too perfectly arranged to actually try something out. The old store was a bit more inviting. Finding an employee on the sales floor was very difficult in the old store. This time, an employee saw me walking around and actually greeted me first, before I proceeded to ask him where I could find tennis equipment. Generally, I've never been a big fan of Dick's. They never seemed to have exactly what I was looking for, or I could find the same item for less money elsewhere (such as online). But, when I needed a basic item quickly, such as tennis balls, they fit the bill. I do like the layout of the checkout better in the new store, and the young man who cashed me out was energetic and upbeat.

    New running shoes!

As a tennis aficionado, they do not have a big selection of tennis shoes.

I love the REI in Garden City. Every employee, literally everyone, is so kind and helpful. They are…read morewilling to go the extra mile and never seem "bothered". REI has great outdoor brands and a decent selection. Prices range and things can be on the higher-end but it's no more expensive than the manufactures sites. I also appreciate that as a member I get perks like cash back, extended returns, etc.

Still five stars. We came in looking for a number of things. Kind of a scouting mission. REI has…read moreplenty to offer for hiking, camping, biking, kayaking, and more. We are looking for, among other things, a smaller tent (ours is huge) that we can easily lug around with us and REI has a large selection. We signed up for their membership several years ago. Just tell them your phone number when making a purchase and you get credit for the purchase. We picked up a UV protective t-shirt as a gift for someone. It was reasonably priced imho, very soft and moisture wicking. Brilliant. I should probably get myself one too. BTW, the company no longer offers bags. None. So bring a reusable bag if you plan to shop here. It's just another way to reduce waste and be a good steward. Some of the prices can be high, but not everything. They sell Patagonia which is an expensive brand, as well as other, more moderately priced items. You just have to know what you want and what you are willing to pay. If you check out the bulletin board upstairs, they offer guided excursions that look really fun. I check out their selection of hiking poles as I am looking to buy some. Everything from really reasonable basic models to foldable, light weight pricey models. So you have options. They have pet items. Personal care items. Clothes and shoes are upstairs. So many types of water bottles. Camping items for both the thru-hiker and the car-camper. Check them out. They are a good resource and the staff are friendly and happy to assist.
