Department appeared well staffed but was unable to get anyone to assist me with making a purchase.

PSA - Hampton's Buyer Beware: Store Credit Only, Unexpected $150 Restocking Fee and Refund Policy…read more(Update - response to owner comments at bottom) I discovered Hampton's Men through a Facebook ad and placed a $1,400 online order for a sport coat I had never seen or tried on in person. When it arrived, I decided it was not for me. I never even removed it from its packaging to try it on. I promptly returned the unopened item. Only then did I learn that returning it would cost me $40 in shipping, plus a $150 restocking fee that was not clearly disclosed during the ordering process. What surprised me even more was Hampton's Men's refund policy. Even after paying the restocking fee and return shipping, a refund to your original payment method is not guaranteed. Based on the policy, the company has complete discretion over whether to issue one. In my case, I was left asking the owner to make an exception just to receive the remaining $1,250 from an unopened return. That is not the customer experience I expect when making a $1,400 online purchase from a retailer I discovered through Facebook advertising and product photography. The owner told me he would "work with me," and I hope he ultimately does the right thing by issuing a full refund to my original form of payment. Until then, my advice to prospective customers is simple: read Hampton's return policy very carefully before ordering. Make sure you understand that an unopened return may still cost you return shipping, a $150 restocking fee, and that a refund to your original payment method may not be automatic. -------- Tyler, The most concerning issue is NOT the $150 restocking fee. It is that Hampton's can accept the returned merchandise, retain a customer's original payment, and provide only store credit instead of a refund to the original payment method. That is a material restriction. In my view, it should be clearly and prominently disclosed in the Facebook advertisement, on the product page, and before checkout, not simply placed on a separate Return Policy page. Had I understood that Hampton's could keep my $1,400 after I returned the coat and issue only store credit, I would not have made the purchase. For clarity, I opened the shipping box to view the sport coat, but I did not break the plastic seal, remove the coat from its packaging, or try it on. I returned it promptly in the same sealed condition. What is especially troubling is your admission that you initially intended to "work with me," but changed course after I posted reviews about my experience. In other words, the decision about whether I would receive my money back appears to have turned on whether you approved of my criticism. A customer returning a substantial online purchase should not have to rely on the owner's personal goodwill, or remain silent publicly, to receive a refund to the original payment method. Consumers deserve to understand that before doing business with Hampton's.

It was opened by Henry Taylor back…read morein 1883 as the Taylor General Store and has been operating ever since, so they are definitely doing something right! The landmark is on the National Register of Historic Places and is quite a popular place. While you won't be able to park right out front as they did in the past, there is plenty of parking located conveniently behind the store. W.W. Mast bought a half stake of the business in 1897, then bought the other half in 1913, changing the name to Mast General Store It was truly the Amazon of its day, offering everything you could possibly need with the motto, "goods for the living, coffins and caskets for the dead," which prompted the local phrase, "If you can't buy it here, you don't need it ." When the economy changed and the original store closed in 1977, it was thankfully saved and reopened in 1980 by preservationists John and Faye Cooper The front corner of the store features an active town post office The store spans two levels with beautifully creaking floorboards that instantly let you know you are in a nostalgic place filled with history. A lot of the original advertising posters from Mr. Mast are still mounted on the walls alongside the vintage counters and fixtures The original cast iron potbellied wood stove is still used to heat the store, the functional wooden trap doors in the floorboards still remain from where chickens historically were traded for store credit, and you can even get a cup of coffee for just 5 cents. You will find a massive variety of cast-iron cookware, old-fashioned candy in barrels, postcards, books, high-quality clothing, footwear, toys, and traditional mercantile goods. I even bought a delicious fried apple pie! The historic Little Red Schoolhouse sits right behind the main building and offers clearance merchandise, though I just enjoyed looking at the older architecture and reading about the school.

There's so much to look at here, the property itself is stunning and surrounded by amazing nature, the staff are all warm and friendly, and you could spend literally hours here perusing the shelves. There's good old fashioned candy, popcorn, snacks, there's Valle Crucis souvenirs to bring home. It's never felt like a tourist trap, it's always felt very warm, country, and welcoming. The building itself is so old and stunning! The creamy floors and woodsy smells, it's always a treat to come here and there's so much to look at and buy. There's even a Christmas shop upstairs year round, where you can stock up on goodies ahead of time for Christmas. I'd say the value is pretty good, depending on what you're buying. Snacks, drinks, candy are all very affordable, but the souvenir and brand name products of course are higher up in price, which is to be expected. All in all, a wonderful place to stop by to grab a treat or bring home some gifts for family and friends. Highly recommend!!!

We came here today when visiting the Boone Mall. I grew up in the area, went to elementary and…read morehigh school here and was glad to see some gear available from my high school along with college and grad school and professional teams. A note about the service--I actually was happy to be not suddenly approached by an overly enthusiastic employee when I initially walked into the store. You know the kind of place where you walk in just to browse and someone just comes up to you and asks if you're looking for anything? I was looking for a specific item and after a few minutes of browsing, the guy behind the counter came up to ask if he could help me find anything. He was super nice and helped me look for items similar to what I was looking for. When we couldn't find the size I wanted, I asked for a few other items and he found some for me right away. I ended up finding the perfect shirt for my kid that was the right size, player, and team. As I was paying, I chatted with him that I had gone to High school here and was glad to see my school's shirts/gear were being sold--it turns out he was also an alum of my school too (about 8 years before so we didn't know each other), but it turns out he owns the store and opened since 1990. They have expanded to a few other locations as well. I was just about to leave a nice review but noticed some 1 stars on here from people who have done a total of 1 to 3 Yelp reviews--really people? Those should have been filtered out. So just to address some of those 1 star reviews on Yelp complaining of not having attentive service--if you needed something, why not just ask the person who is behind the counter instead of writing that the employee was not paying attention to customers? Anyway, I'd be back if I wanted to find another team or player shirt, jersey, etc. This was actually my first time coming in the store and I was glad to see it still here after so many years. --------TL;DR-------- PROS: friendly service, small business feel, nice location at the mall with easy parking. Prices are reasonable and on par with national chains like Foot Locker or Lids or other stores I've bought sports memorabilia at. CONS: none BOTTOM LINE: this is a great small business to find your team's clothes or other team gear to show your support. Service is actually great
