There are 4 exclusive parts to the Jetty Bar…read more Take a step back in time to the front bar, when this drinking hole was known to locals as The St Vincent Hotel (The joys of dating a Cougar). Excluding a fresh coat of paint, updated carpet, the front bar bar is still in original form (including the regulars that drink there). Look out for the snake bite specials, going out at 10 bucks a jug. You can still catch a local rock/punk band playing on your favourite night of the week (I can't remember what night that is). A step through the corridor and past an ATM, will take you to another bar with big screen TV's and a decent coctail menu. Bi-fold glass doors open up to Moseley Square. This place is more upmarket, so leave your flannel shirt and the previous bar, and whack on your Don Travisty instead. If you're over front bar action, head to rear bistro which has the vibe and decor that reflects a Goldcoast Casino in the 90's. The schnittys are hot, and still at fair bistro prices. Finish your meal to the ambience of a water feature, and if you need time to re-coup, the pokies are just to the right. When you're ready to move on, take 5 steps to the rear car park, or continue on to "The G"

Interestingly when the pub first opened back in 1869, it was known as The Jetty Hotel so it has gone back to its original name. If you like to listen to some music while you sip your drink, The Jetty has live bands on most Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. When the bands aren't playing they have a jukebox in the front bar that's rocking from 7 each night and on Wednesdays you can get into a bit of karaoke if that's your thing. The Jetty Hotel isn't a ritzy experience. It's the kind of pub where you have a beer and put your bets on if you're in the front bar but it is a good place to watch the world go by. If you're in the market for a bite to eat, you can get a good feed either in the front bar or the Watergarden Bistro. They also have a café and a function room to accommodate close to 150 people. Should you so desire you can stay at The Jetty. It has 16 rooms and the rooms are well priced.

I can't help but love karaoke. It must be my Japanese blood. There's nothing quite like getting…read moreabsolutely shitfaced and then singing your heart out to your own and everybody else's embarassment. Why is this a good thing, you ask? Because everyone else is making a fool of themselves too, and it makes for a hell of a good time. Back when this place used to be Buddha Bar, I avoided setting foot in this bar. There was constant violence in this bar, and on one occasion I witnessed two different glassings - one being the bouncer, and one being my friend. Thankfully this place has settled down, and though I'm not sure what changes have occurred apart from the name, it seemed to have work. The karaoke rooms are incredibly spacious and comfy, with plasma screens lining the walls so everyone can scrutinize the words you should be singing. The song selections are vast, and they have collections from Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Western artists. There's no escape; you're going to eventually find a song on this playlist that you can't fight singing, and next thing you know you'll have one leg up on a couch and doing some sort of Elvis dance. The public bar is also a nice, loungy area with different music depending on the night. Not a bad place to enjoy a drink or two before you get your diva on.

With emotion? Terror? It remains unclear. Lyrics has the nicest Karaoke rooms in Adelaide, every room being decked with plush furniture and plasma screens. They do room drinks service so you can get martini jugs to drink away the nerves, and they have a better song selection than most. If you go on a weeknight and order a bucket-load of drinks there is a possibility they'll let you stay longer than you booked for free: it's not guaranteed but it has happened! The Dj in the front bar plays Top 40 mostly so don't expect to get your Indie on. As far as the individual room, everybody wants to hire the Brat Pack. It's the biggest, all white and plush and when you walk past you usually see wealthy attractive people in there and the bastards tend to sing better than you do. The other eleven rooms are pretty good but the Bridget Jones and Hugh Hefner are my personal faves. This is a really excellent place for hen's nights and staff parties. It's incredible what happens to the shy office supplies manager once you put a microphone in his hand. Everybody has a little Beiber deep down inside them I guess.

La Sing Restaurant - 'mood' lighting at la sing.

La Sing is one of the few late-night karaoke places in Adelaide where you don't have to pay for a…read moreprivate booth. Which kind of explains why it resembles a mafia den. The system works as follows: you have a look through the plastic folders of songs (the choices are pretty good - old and cheesy is what you want in karaoke), write down your choice on a little slip of paper and deliver it to the DJ who sits behind a big desk at the back of the room. And then wait to see if your song will ever get played. I have had some really great times here, but I've noticed that certain groups of people tends to dominate the songs that get played. If you arrive with a big enough group, or it's a weeknight, you have a much better chance of getting your songs played. The staff can also be really horrible. Once I came in and was sitting at a table waiting for my friends who were two or three minutes behind me, and a staff member came up and said, "This isn't a lounge room, order a drink". So obviously they get annoyed with patrons who don't spend enough on food or drinks. I keep coming back though, and I have a good time even when they don't play my songs. Last weekend I burnt my fingers holding my lighter up and swaying. Apart form the mostly tragic, there is also an element of naturally good amateur performers who frequent the place - like the guy who looks like Alec Baldwin, and the short asian guy with a voice like Frank Sinatra. Did I mention they've got champagne and wonton noodle soup? You can find their facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/La-Sing-Karaoke-Bar/272696265997?sk=info

It's filthy and I love it…read more I want to get married, mainly so I can have a hens night, I want to have a hens night just for an excuse to have a few drinks and party up with my ladies at La Sing. You probably don't NEED to be on a hens night to do this though, any excuse will do...birthday, anniversary, champagne Thursday, vodka Friday, tequila Saturday....really, all seven days of the week would be fine by me! La Sing is where you end up at the end of the night, if you have at least a little class running through you. If you are completely un-classy, like me, you'll start your night here, head off for a while and somehow find your way back. It's a dive, you have to wait AGES to have your song played but in the meantime you'll have the time of your life drinking, doing shots and dancing like a dancing queen - you'll probably even end up, somehow, eating their 'kinda gross but actually tasty at 2am' chicken wings. You will not regret it. You will not be judged. You will have a fan-freakin-tastic night.
