While I'd like to keep this place "secret" so it stays such a quaint, quiet get-away, I have to share that this small 13-cabin resort has the nicest beach & water area of any we looked at, and it's clean. I walk around on nicely mowed, thick grass in my bare feet. We have gone to "Bob and Connie's" to "our cabin" for 16 years and we'd feel we missed out if we didn't go. It's our "home away from home" getaway one week each year. It's a nice traditional, family-oriented resort, the kids can play on swim/kyack/fun bugs/innertubes/water bikes in the water all free and part of your cost. They also have a range of bikes, videos, and games. People can swim without fear of drop offs and fish for small sunnies or bass off the 3 docks. All the cabins have or are being updated, and they are as nice as it gets. The small size allows for Dickerson's to keep this resort highly maintained and they take extreme pride in every detail. It's their home too, so they want everyone to respect the property, but also enjoy yourself. You're greeted with warm chocoiate chip cookies upon arrival, and they go that extra mile to introduce parents and kids alike to eachother while we meet for Connie's famous donuts Sunday morning and again Monday at a pizza party. Helping break the ice is important and makes for a better week so kids find other kids to play with and adult can converse if they so choose. They always end up boating/playing with other cabins all week long. Bob sometimes takes the smaller kids zip sledding on Tues. or Wed. and has brought out his sailboat a couple years for us to enjoy as a group. Every Thursday the kids look forward to a tractor hay ride and each child is made to feel special...and afterwards we gather around the camp fire for s'mores (although it's available any evening). We've made good friends and look forward to seeing them each summer. The location is great...southcentral Minnesota...not too hard to reach from any direction nor very far from the Mpls. airport. They have cabins from one bedroom (2-2/1/2 people) to large ones that can house a couple families. Most business I think is spring to late fall. Dickerson's is one of those "hidden gems" that we feel fortunate to have found and to share many years of great family experiences with. read more

Just What We Needed! With everything that has gone on since early this year, we can't think of anything that has been more relaxing and enjoyable than a recent week at Dickerson's Lake Florida Resort, a family resort in Spicer, MN. We spent a week each summer at Dickerson's Resort when our grandchildren were young and had a wonderful time each year. When the grandchildren turned older, they played baseball or soccer in the summer which meant we "took a break" and sadly missed being able to schedule a week at the Lake. While being confined to home (we're 80 and 81 years of age) and wanting to find something to do that made us feel as though much was right again with the world, we checked the availability of a cabin at Dickerson's Resort with Bob and Connie Dickerson. As soon as we learned there was a cabin available, we "took a chance" on spending a week there - away from the confines of our home. And, are we ever glad we did! Our younger daughter, her husband, and 21-year old son joined us for the week; our older daughter was able to join us for one overnight. Not only did we feel perfectly comfortable there with other guests staying in the remaining 11 cabins, the time there allowed us to once again feel "normal" and able to enjoy being outdoors and with other people who were honoring safe distancing just as we were. Bob and Connie Dickerson are friendly and gracious hosts and provide a terrific resort experience. The cabins and grounds are attractive and well maintained, the beach area is sandy and welcoming, Lake Florida is a clear lake - the whole experience is "just what was needed." Will we return? We have already scheduled a week next summer and are looking forward to being there to once again take advantage of a "bit of sanity and relaxation." Bob and Connie Dickerson are truly gracious hosts at Lake Florida. They make sure that you enjoy everything about your stay. When you arrive on Saturday, it is check in and a family picture taken by Bob. Your picture arrives to you in your Christmas Card. When you get to your cabin you will find a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Sunday morning Connie makes home made donuts at the office and it is a time to meet others staying at the resort. Monday night is Pizza night at Lake Florida. Bob and Connie roll out the pizza ovens and we eat on the beach. During the week Bob likes to take the kids skiing on a zip sled. Last year he even got my then 7 year old up on two skis. We have also had Sundae night with all the toppings and the kids hay ride on Thursday is one of my son's favorites. He is now 6 years old and helps Bob drive the tractor every year. There are many activities you can join in our just sit back and relax on one of the swings on the beach. Kayaks, water bikes, paddle boats, canoes, volleyball, and of course building sand castles. We take our boat with so there is lots of fishing and tubing. You can also rent a fishing boat or a pontoon. In the evening a campfire invites one and all to make a s'more or just enjoy the fire. We have just made reservations for 2010 which will be our fifth summer at Dickerson's. My kids usually start asking about the middle of May how long it will be until we can go to "our cabin". The cabins are very well maintained, the grounds are meticulous, and Connie has flower boxes and pots overflowing everywhere you look. Our family, including my husband, our daughters, sons-in-laws and four grandchildren have spent our vacations for over 10 years at this beautiful resort! We started with one granddaughter in the mid 90's. My husband and I had spent several summers at different Minnesota and Wisconsin resorts until my sister introduced us to Dickersons. This resort is truly "heaven on earth". The beautiful setting, with the large trees, flowers in window boxes on each cabin, and colorful plantings at various places around the resort, the vibrant sunsets reflecting on the clean lake and the fine sandy beach would be enough for us! However, there is much more, playsets for the younger children, bicycles for the older children and adults, kayaks, water bikes and canoes for all. And then there is Bob and Connie, the resorts third generation owners! Connie's warm chocolate chip cookies on arrival, Sunday morning's home made donuts and coffee to meet your fellow vacationers and the pizza party on Monday evenings. Bob provides a hayride for the kids on Thursday evening followed by a bonfire with s'mores But, most of all, there is peace and quiet and fun with your family. You go home refreshed and renewed, with the best memories for you and your kids!! read more

Was voted as one of top 10 family resorts by Midwest Living back in the late 1990's. We've be going for the past 12 years. Very family oriented. Very relaxing. Ideal for families with younger children. Several activities are planned during the week to encourage interaction between families, such as a pizza night and a hayride night. It has a nice clean beach, kayaks/canoes, a paddle boat, a water slide, a swimming dock, numerous piers for fishing or boating, public bicycles, two hydro-bikes, and a small store. It is also within 5 miles of Spicer/New London and within 10 miles of Willmar. The former has a small grocery, fun center, and a very nice water-ski show. The latter has more extensive shopping (Target. Walmart, etc.), a YMCA (for rainy days), and a movie theater. Even our 14 year old still looks forward to going back. read more

Our family (grandchildren, children and grandparents) have been going to Dickerson's Lake Florida Resort for at least 9 years. We haven't missed a year since we found it! What a great place for a family vacation, especially when there are younger children involved. Each year, our grandchildren can hardly wait until we'll be back at Dickerson's. The greatest thing about Dickerson's is the fact that there are age-appropriate things and activities for all ages. The toddlers can be doing their thing while the teenagers are somewhere else. Parents and grandparents are able to watch the children while enjoying meeting and enjoying the other families who are there. A place for a great family vacation! read more

We have enjoyed this wonderful resort the past three summers and have already made plans to go back for the fourth year. We have taken our children and grandchildren and all stay in cabin 13. It is a beautiful modern cabin just right for our family. Early morning fishing, lazy afternoons on the beach, and family time in the evening makes for a great week. Other activities close by that we have enjoyed include golf, go karting and miniature golf. Bob and Connie are gracious hosts and make everyone feel welcome. A great place for a family vacation, we stopped looking for other resorts when we found this one. Each year as we leave we start to make plans for the next year. We will be back in 2010. read more

Dickersons is our favorite place to go. The cabins are very nice, the lake is beautiful and the hospitality is unmatched. We have been going to Dickersons for 6 years and it is the highlight of our summer. It is a quiet lake, so if you are skiing or tubing there is very little traffic to contend with. Bob and Connie are so accomodating and friendly, they have become friends that we come to visit every year! read more

Its an excellent vacation for families. The resort has an excellent beach, good fishing from the docks for the kids, and the grounds are clean and attractive. Second all that has been posted by other positive people. Would be difficult to find a better place. mike k. read more
