I played this course in a foursome in October 2008 and thought it was a great Municipal course (owned by the local council). Although not as cheap as some others in the area(£23.50 for a weekend round) it represents good value for money.
The course is in the parkland style with very little thick rough but a lot of trees. The fairways are good and I'd imagine the greens are great in the dry. Unfortunately, we played after a period of heavy rain and there was a lot of standing water.
A few factors meant that I have not given it the highest score possible. Firstly, it is not clear where you have to pay as the pro shop and clubhouse are about 300m apart and there did not seem to be any clear direction on the way in. Secondly, we were not offered a course map and there is not one printed on the scorecard which meant we did not know the layout of the course including dog-legs and water features (watch out for the very large water filled ditch in front of the green on the 8th). This slowed our play at the start and did not help with shot selection on some holes.
The proshop and clubhouse are good - offfering value for money food/drink at the 19th. The clubhouse is currently covered in scaffold but there appeared to be great views out over towards Southampton. read more
