IF YOU ARE SHOPPING FOR AN ENGAGEMENT RING, YOU NEED TO READ THIS!!!
I went in here with my then girlfriend/now wife shopping for an engagement ring. Our salesman was very helpful and showed my wife a setting that she fell in love with. He gave me a price on the setting with a diamond (specified the exact weight, cut, clarity, certification, etc) on his card. A week later I returned to buy the ring and my salesman was on vacation so I handed the card to the owner and told him they had that ring on hold for me. He brought the ring up front with the exact same stone I had looked at, and told me a price almost $2k higher than what my salesman had quoted me and had written on the card! When I questioned the price, Durrell told me that there was no way the price he gave me was for that stone, even though he listed it all on the card. I gave him multiple chances to honor the price on the card, and when he wouldn't I told him that I only wanted the setting. He apologized and offered to take $1k his price. I said no and gave him the money for the setting. I turned around to walk out and he yelled out that he would honor the price on the card for the stone. I turned and told him that I don't care if he offered to sell me the diamond for $1, that I don't do business with dishonest people, and that the only reason I bought the setting from him is because my wife had been looking at rings for months and this is the only one she absolutely loved. I left there and went straight to Nederland Jewelers. There I found a very comparable diamond to what I was looking at at Diamond Durrell's for a great price. My phone rang and it was Durrell, offering to sell me the diamond for $900 less than quoted on the card (and a good $700 less than the stone I was looking at at Nederland's). I bought the stone from Nederland's and have not set foot in Durrell's ever since. read more
