I joined the company on a Monday after just one interview. A day later, they sent me a job offer. The offer stated I would receive an annual salary, and the training period would last five days. However, after just two days of training, we were thrown into work, contrary to their initial promise.
By the third day of training, we were already making calls, with no further instruction or support. Both owners frequently spoke to each other in Russian, and it seemed like they were arguing a lot. The job itself involved telemarketing--calling 150 restaurants across North America in an 8-hour shift. We were instructed to tell restaurant owners that the company was similar to Uber Eats but without offering delivery services.
In reality, the company would gain control of the restaurant's Google Business page without the owner's full knowledge, create a new domain and website featuring their menu, and then mark up the menu prices to profit off the difference. They claimed to do all of this for free, but owners were often left unpaid for their sales. It quickly became clear to me that this was not just misleading--it was a scam, potentially tied to larger unethical or illegal practices.
On my fourth day, after making my first sale, they abruptly let me go without providing any reason. They paid me partially but refused to pay the full amount owed, telling me to sue them if I wanted the rest. I did pursue legal action and now have a civil case against them.
It's astonishing that they hired me under the pretense of providing proper training and supporting my growth, only to fire me without cause four days later. I fulfilled my duties and even achieved a sale within that short time. After looking at Yelp reviews, I discovered that the company has been scamming restaurants and taking advantage of workers.
