I LOVE it! Will definitely go again. I love that I can walk here and I am supporting a small local business that's family friendly (the stylist had her teen/preteen daughter in the shop). If you need a haircut in Hyde Park, they do ALL hair! To the left of me in a chair was a black girl getting her hair relaxed and to the right of me was a Hispanic-looking woman getting a style.

I used to work at a high-end salon, and as a perk I was able to get my hair done for FREE. Cut,…read morecolor, style, extensions--you name it, I had it done for free. When I graduated from college and found a full-time job I had to leave my salon job--and my fabulous freebies--behind. I've spent the past several years bouncing around from different stylists trying to someone who was both affordable, professional, and talented. After one particularly horrific cut, I came by to see Sherine at Maria's. She had put extensions in my hair once before, and I figured I needed some serious extensions assistance to get over this recent chop job. I have typical 'white girl' hair: fine, stringy, and super silky soft. This means it styles nicely but is super difficult to braid for sew-in extensions. No problem for Sherine. She is amazing. She works with my hair type and the extensions always look amazing. Although extensions are a big price commitment (I'm definitely stretching my budget here), Sherine is well worth the investment. I'm so happy with the way my hair looks, and will definitely be back for maintenance. Although the salon does not seem to have a huge white girl client-base, and stylists are often most comfortable working with hair they're accustomed to, Sherine does an AMAZING job. To all you white girls dropping crazy money on Newbury Street extensions: stop being foolish. Visit Sherine at Maria's and get Newbury Street quality without the price and pretension.

As a woman, I place great importance on my hair. It is what everyone sees when they first see you. Your hair is who you are and losing it is troubling. Having Rachel as my stylist has helped me tremendously with these issues. Rachel does a fantastic job caring and styling my hair in a way that hides my hair loss. I am constantly stopped by strangers asking "who does your hair", "I love your haircut". It is a wonderful feeling to have hair that looks and feels great and it is all because of her. She is not only very knowledge about hair care but she is a very caring person when it comes to her clients. This is very evident when you visit her salon because everyone she services are long time clients. She listens to what you want and comes up with great ideas when you give her the "I don't know what I want" statement. She is also very honest when it comes to her services. If she does not think a service will fit your lifestyle, face or damage your hair, she will tell you and will not perform that service. She is very hair care focused. I highly recommended Rachel as a stylist. As I stated, she is very knowledge and caring. She is also extremely professional and keeps a nice clean modern salon that is welcoming. She will go above and beyond to provide excellent service to her clients.

At one point, I was driving an hour plus away from the city, looking for a salon with the right balance between expertise, quality and fairness, until I found Jesamondo and Whitney. Whitney is simply the most talented and detailed-oriented hair-extensions artist I've ever worked with, and God knows I've worked with many, including name salons in the city that often times where overpriced and overbooked. Whitney's funneled passion for hair extensions and the different types and techniques has taken her focus and ongoing training to installing beautiful extensions that have your natural hair in mind. And, while I also miss her haircuts so much--and our deep conversations--since I moved out of state, I miss my long, full layers when Whitney was in charged. Needless to say, I am on a long break from hair extensions because she's too far away, but that's a different story. Point is, she's set the bar high, and it won't be easy to find someone that checks all these boxes. If you're looking for a hair extensions specialist, and want to work with a genuinely fair and thoroughly trained stylist; someone who knows exactly what they're doing and what the best approach for your own needs is, swing by Jesamondo and book a consultation with Whitney. My best guess is you won't be disappointed and you too will be rocking long and beautiful locks that will be installed with precision, comfort and future growth in mind.
