When I first started coming to Brattleboro, I stumbled in this store. I had no idea what to expect…read more Greg, the owner, greeted me immediately. From the very start, he was so kind and very welcoming. He engaged in casual conversation with me in the most comforting and friendly way. He was adorable and sweet. I was just looking around and seeing what they had and he acted like I was the most important customer. I had no intention of buying anything - since I was just window shopping that day, but I really wanted to support him and his business and ended up purchasing a very cute pair of elephant earrings. Since then I've seen Greg around and have come to find he's just a wonderfully kind man. You definitely want to check this place out. It's full of fascinating, exquisite, and beautiful art and sweet little gifts. Support local business and the wonderful people like Greg that help to make this world a better place!

I worked here in high school and summers when I was in college. The owners are insistent that…read moreemployees be friendly and available to customers above all else - you want something? Just ask. Anything. Seriously, ANYTHING. This is a high end boutique that offers locally created jewelry, glass, sculpture, pottery, wood stuffs, paintings, photographs, some furniture, and textiles. Attached to the shop are two more shops: 1. The Kitchen Sync - amazing kitchen store - gadgets, electrics, glassware, barware, tableware, cookbooks, tons of cool kitchen stuff, great for gifts. 2. Gallery 2 - the upstairs art gallery. Much of this is local art and some consignment. A couple other things... - Free gift wrapping. I wrapped SOOO many gifts in high school that I am totally a master at it now. I can make a seriously impressive bow with a couple feet of ribbon. Sweet. - Will ship your purchases anywhere you want. - If you see something you sort of like but not quite, say something to an employee and they will check if something more to your preference can be special ordered. - The bathroom is less than impressive and therefore supposedly for employees only, but if you ask the right person s/he will let you in it. Don't judge the lavender paint job - I did it myself.

Avoid this horrific business and its unprofessional owner at all costs. We left thousands of…read moredollars worth of jewellery in their care for repairs and experienced WEEKS of delays, outright lies, inability to track or trace where our precious pieces actually physically were (there's no computer system, no recorded phone interactions- just hand scribbled notes in poor penmanship & employees who aren't appropriately trained and left confused), and unfinished work. When my husband reached out for the 10th time today Jacqui was atrocious to him- we told her we were no longer comfortable with them handling the order, they aren't trustworthy, and we just wanted to come pick up our jewellery. Jacqui told us that Hobbs has 'been in business for 61 years' and that we'd get it when we get it, and then HUNG UP on my husband. After going down in person to the store we were finally forced to get the Peterborough Police Department involved today. It was only under the threat of us pressing charges for felony theft that the owner finally produced my rings. They were at an offsite jewellers 45 minutes away, she had to send an employee to go get them, and the order hadn't even been started... despite being in their possession for weeks. Jacqueline can have her friends post fake glowing reviews all she wants, but they won't drown out authentic customer experiences. The only reason they continue to remain in business after "61 years" is because they have no google listing or reviews, no public facebook reviews, no registration with the Better Business Bureau, and therefore no louder way for us members of the public to warn each other about their disgusting business practices. As much as we all want to 'support local,' RUN AWAY from this place.

As others have stated, the people who work there are condescending and rude. I brought in three…read morewatches and asked about replacing the batteries and new watch bands. I have a large collection of Swatch watches and when I called the company they very graciously told me the ones I wanted worked on were "vintage" so they didn't have the exact bands but sent me complimentary bands. They also said they would replace the batteries and bands for free. I didn't want to drive to Boston to the store so stopped in a Hobbs. Rude, snarky and wildly expensive. Good luck keeping locals customers coming back with that attitude Ladies! Mr. Hobbs was such a gentleman, I'm sure he is rolling in his grave at the way his store is treating people.
