I left my house early to make sure I arrived on time 9am rental. At 850am, a text message read: "Here is the location we are using for your 9 am pick up." This is Dylan with a map marker. A few minutes later, he called me asking where I was. I said I'm making a turn, but my GPS says go straight, and the street sign says road closed. I had to pass the road closed sign to get to the rental location. After I parked, Dylan came out to greet me. He took me into the office, asked for my ID, asked if I had ridden before, and then told me that the handlebars were $90. I asked why he told me about handlebars, and he said it's because some people get charged for them. He then said that if I came back early, he would give me a discount. I said, "Cool, thank you". I then went to my car to change. I met him at the ATV, where he explained the controls, and I thanked him. Dylan then told me to follow him; he was going to show me some areas. He took a razor, and I followed him on the ATV. He took me to a place under a bridge where people hang out. It had chairs, a basketball hoop, a basketball, and a lot of stickers. He then took me to a windmill. At the windmill, I asked what the marker was for to get back to the rental shop. He said to use the tall antenna, which is close to him. I thanked him, and I went off on my own. At first, I was excited and explored the area. I was worried I might get lost. This place is nothing like Ocotillo Wells. Ocotillo Wells is a State Vehicular Recreation Area with a map, Marked trails (with names), and Unique Geologic sites. Ocotillo, where I was, is just a desert. I tried to keep track of where I went. I found some medium hills, went up, took some pictures, and then went back down. Then, I continued exploring the area. It was fun until I went up to a sign that said BOMBING AREA- DO NOT ENTER. I called Dylan from my cell phone, and he said, "Don't go in there." I said, "What's this about? He said they do testing over there, but are not currently doing anything at this time. I thanked him and hung up. I went away from the signs and found another one that said Laser Targeting DO NOT ENTER. I decided to go towards the main road instead to see if I could get out of the area. I then see a Sign that says Navy Reserve, DO NOT ENTER. I then turned around and kept riding. I found a path that avoided the signs. After 10minutes of riding, another sign popped up saying NO VEHICLES, NO ATVS, NO DIRT BIKES. I then went another direction after riding for 5 minutes. Another sign said NO TRESPASSING. At this point, I was irritated. I rented an ATV only to be told I couldn't ride in the area I was put in. On my way back I was able to see the windmills. I found a path to the right and followed it, which brought me closer to the mountains. I went up some hills, then followed the path, but I felt like I was going to get lost because I didn't know where I was going. There are no trail names here. I kept going, then somehow ended up going down a hill. I made a right and kept going, which took me to a path I'd been on before, where the hills were. I then kept going toward the cell tower and returned it to the ATV rental spot. I got some drinks from my car and took a break. I looked around the shop, and no one was around. I rang the bell, looked at the garage and the office, but no one was there. So I called Dylan and asked where he was. I needed gas. He said he was at the other rental location setting up people. If I was done riding? I told him I needed gas. He told me to get it from the blue truck that has a pump on top. I thanked him. I filled up the gas tank and went riding again. I then rode to the left side of the ATV rental place. I liked this place at first because it had more hills. Then I followed a trail that led to more hills. Unfortunately, the fun was short-lived. As I kept going, I saw an area that said DO NOT ENTER MINING in progress. I said, "ok, whatever." I still had a trail on the side of it. I continued and saw some guys hitting some targets with guns, so I went another direction. I kept going until I saw a No Trespassing sign. I tried another way and then kept going straight until I saw a cement wall like at US border with DO NOT ENTER. I was completely blocked. I got tired of not being able to explore much on the right side due to the BOMB signs and No trespassing and NOW the left side had DO NOT ENTER signs and cement walls. I rented for 8hrs but I finished the area in 6hrs due to it having closed areas. When I returned Dylan said the ATV was good. I asked about the discount for returning early. He said he would have to talk to his grandfather he doesn't know how to process it. Update 5 days later I called and wasn't given a discount as mentioned when I first arrived read more

I had such a great experience and I was so eager to leave this review that I wrote it while riding back to San Diego from Ocotillo! There are many ATV companies to choose from in Ocotillo, and the desert is the desert. So, I am sure the tour content is the same for every company. However, I think this company differs from the others because of their hospitality and great customer service. First, I called Dezert Adventures looking for a last minute reservation after missing a scheduled tour with a different company in the area. They were able to get our group of three booked for a next day, early morning tour - sweet! This time, we arrived thirty minutes early. Grandma [I forgot her name] and Dylan [super handsome] greeted us and got us all checked in. Both were super friendly and helpful, and they made sure we were comfortable with our gear (helmet, gloves, and googles) before heading out. I forgot to bring a backpack for the ride but was pleased to find that they have backpacks and fanny packs available for use during the tour AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. They also had sunscreen available for use! We went for a 2 hour tour - this is the perfect amount of time, btw. Our tour guides, Bruce and Bob, were awesome. They answered all of our questions and didn't have a problem taking our pictures..and we asked for MANY! They stopped in shaded areas during the tour and provided complimentary, CHILLED water each time!! This was much appreciated and LIQUID GOLD because it is super hot out there. The other company that I booked with urged each person to bring 6-8 water bottles of their own, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Dezert Adventures take care of their customers in this way. All in all, I had a great time. There were a total of 9 people in our tour and there was no pressure to go fast or slow. If you are planning to go ATV riding in Ocotillo, I definitely recommend making sure you are hydrated prior to going out and I highly recommend Dezert Adventures. They have competitive pricing, no crazy deposits, and their ATVs are in really good shape. You will not be disappointed. read more

Great place to rent anything your looking for. We rented a 230 for $200 a day and they let us have a 24 hour rental. You need to be here at 7 am or earlier to rent or if you're going on a tour. We have done tours here twice before and both were awesome experiences. I brought 4 kids ages 8,9,10, 12 and a mom with no injuries, no complaints, all good times! read more

Our reservation was first pushed to the right 30min to wait for another groups reservation but also took another 30min to explain to certain people how to use the quads which is not bad because safety with the ATV is first. The company compensated and regardless of the delayed we had our 2hours as scheduled. We got the tour guide deal since it was our first time in that area. What ended up happening was that we actually did 1hour with our tour guide and an hour by ourselves. The tour guide was phenomenal, his name was Michael. The track and trails are awesome, you have dunes and crazy mountains. It's perfect. Highly recommend!! Last two cents don't mistake this company with others in the area, there some scetchy ones too. This was my first time riding ATV's! Showed up & Michael greeted us, and was super friendly, professional, and patient. He explained everything to us, got us ready to go, and even provided water. Very sweet! Cameron was our guide. Cameron! He is just the best human. He gave us a perfect tour, and we never felt rushed. He was safe and made sure we were as well. If I can give one piece of advice, please take it easy with those ATV's and pay attention to the "damage policy." My ATV wiped out & there was some damage, and I had to pay $470, to cover the damages. Now, Michael WAS COOl, but the owner, I felt started to nit pick some things. I think they should charge more, and get insurance to cover any damage, especially if they are already aware that their can/will be accidents. What if I did not have the money? Just something to think about. I could be wrong, but the owner appeared more concerned about his scratched caps as opposed to knowing if I were ok. We purchased the 6:30p tour for our 7 year old son (and accompanying adult) as a birthday present. Our son was sooooo excited to get to drive his own ATV!!! Helmets, goggles, and gloves were provided as well. First a safety briefing and some quick practice in the parking lot, then it was time for offroading. There was a bit of a hiccup with my husband's ATV but another one was provided and we had no further equipment issues. There's the option of open trails or several created off-road courses with bermed turns. They chose the courses and had a terrific time tearing through the sand under a gorgeous sunset. My son's favorite part was the bermed turns. Our guide Cameron was knowledgeable, kind and patient with our kids. After reading reviews for operators in the area, we chose Dezert Adventures for their commitment to safety and fair practices. We were not disappointed. Further, after the tour Cameron and Michael went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help us dig/pull our driving vehicle free from the sand after I got it stuck (You do not have to risk getting stuck to do the tour. I wanted better pictures but should've stayed parked on the pavement and walked instead. Lesson learned.) We're planning to be back in a couple months for another birthday. Our group of friends set out looking for a Dezert Adventure and came upon this place. We were a little unsure at first.... Well, we would go back in a heart beat! We had a group of 15 people we arrived on Saturday afternoon and the owner Ken let us camp out on the back part of his property. It was "rustic" but we had an electric cord to run our coffee pot, a hose to wash our dishes and a bathroom (it is a bit desert rustic) We had a quick morning orientation on the quads and we were off. The owner Ken sent his grandson with us as a guide, very nice young man that took us out to some great spots to ride. He was awesome! We had a range of skill sets and they worked really hard to make sure we all had fun and a safe time. It was a blast and I would not hesitate to go back! We had a group of 10 reservation for 12 noon. We are on vacation & had to drive an hour and a half to get here. We get there at 11:30, 30 minutes before our reservation as instructed. 11:30 and no one has shown yet. Turns out no one was ever going to show up because it was after noon (reservation time) and still no one had showed up. We were planning a vacation to San Diego and made a reservation for Dezert Adventures 4 months in advanced. We even paid in full in advanced at the request of the owner. We rented a car, and drove the hour and a half out into the desert. When we got there, there was nobody around, so we called to find out where to go. When we finally got a hold of Josh (the new owner), he said "there was a mixup" and didn't have our reservation. We unfortunately were not able to wait 5 hours for the next public tour, so we requested a refund. He said he would push it through, but after multiple days and multiple calls going unanswered, the refund never showed up. After getting a hold of someone who was answering the phone for them, he stated that he had just sold the business to Josh, but that Josh still owed him money. So it sounds like the new owner is just trying to scam people over. This place may have good reviews, but they are all from a while ago. Definitely don't trust this place read more

I highly recommend Dezert Adventures and heres why...we celebrated my husband's birthday with them and they did not disappoint!! From start to finish! First, Josh called me back right away to schedule the reservation, it was so easy. Then, when we got there Michael checked us in and explained everything to us. Made sure we were comfortable on the atv and knew how to ride it. He allowed us to ride around in the parking lot to make sure we knew what we were doing. Once we got the hang of it Cameron took us out on our tour. Cameron did an AMAZING job! He was so knowledgeable, took his time with us and made it really fun! Also worth noting, ladies you know most of the time when you hand a man your phone to snap pictures of you they just snap away not caring about angles or anything, not Cameron! Lol he was getting all the good angles and took great pics of us! Makes it better so when we go back and look at the pics to share of the amazing time we had it's reflected in the pictures. It was so mich fun! When I spoke with Josh in the beginning he recommended the evening tour because of the sunset and he was right! The sunset was BEAUTIFUL out there! I will say when we first arrived and got started it was a little hot but I would also say don't let that discourage you from booking the evening tour because once you start riding and the sun starts going down it feels great and seeing the beauty of it all is worth every penny!
