A bit underwhelming…read more When I visited Grotto, I was a little disappointed. The Grotto is a small section of the Riverwalk that is designed as a man-made rock grotto. You can walk under the cave to view a waterfall and fountain. I am not sure if it was construction or a poorly built safety rail, but the pathway surrounding the installation was lined with cheap-looking PVC pipes and buckets filled with concrete. It really took away from the art installation. The photos really make the Grotto seem larger and more robust than it actually is. Once you walk under it, the main attraction (the face and fountain) is actually quite small. I would only really visit if you're in the Pearl-Midtown area, otherwise I would not recommend going out of your way to see it.

My family and I decided to go play mini golf at the Memorial minigolf and museum. We went on a…read moreMonday at around 2:00 pm. Luckily the weather was in the 70s which was really nice for a January day. We drove up and parked easily. We then went to pay the rate for 4 adults, got our clubs, chose our golf balls, and we were off. There were a few people there with families on the course but we basically had the course to ourselves. It was a course with a practice spot and then 18 holes to play. It was very informative and fun. There were stands at each hole with a set of photos and historical information. Plus the actual course had slight slopes, and a few fun obstacles. After golfing we went inside the small museum. There were several artifacts and some historical information to look at and read about. On a side note they have two bathrooms with soap and running water which is a positive. Overall it was a fun afternoon on a nice day. The mini golf course is fun and informative. The museum is small and interesting. If you like history and mini golf this would be a good place to visit and play on a nice day.

Oct 28 is Emma's Birthday... so Magnolia Hotel decided to open the doors to celebrate! Free tours…read morefrom 10am-2pm! I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. I can not wait to go on their ghost tour!

The largest Blue Crab in the world! It's 27' wide, and weighs over a half ton!…read more Everything is bigger in Texas. This crab guards the entrance of the Rockport Beach, one of the finest beaches in Texas. Rockport is known for its seafood that they catch here. The blue crab is one of them! Rockport previously had another crab statue that was on top of a seafood restaurant. It lived there from the 1950's to about the 1970's when it fell into disrepair due to hurricane damage. However, in 2012, artist David Allgood unveiled a bigger better crab. Rockport is really into the arts, and this is a great example! It's across the street from a sculpture garden, and compliments the area nicely! Don't worry, this statue doesn't say anything about the disposition of people from Rockport, they're friendly! The funny thing about this crab is that it's a hermaphrodite. It is a male crab with female claws.

Old limestone houses! This Historic District is in the…read morenational register of historical places. It's a few square blocks around Main Street in downtown Fredericksburg. The Historic District is a fun, pedestrian friendly area that's a cool walk to wander. The buildings in the district were mostly built in the 1840's-1880's and later. There's a lot of limestone in the area, so the German settlers built Texas versions of their houses back home in Germany. The structures vary from old log cabins to impressive stone churches. Be sure to check out the Sunday Houses, which are town homes for people who lived out in the boonies, so they could come to town and do church stuff, and trade. The district is safe, there's always cops patrolling the area, and this town runs a bit slower than the big city. You can legally walk around in this district with an open beer! Cheers! They have a map on the internet of an official route, which shows off a few old churches, a few cool old homes, and some public buildings. Overall, there's more than 700 old structures in this district. The map shows off some of the highlights. It's a great stroll through Texas history!

Ms. Tauch was a very well known sculptor in Texas. She was paid $1000 for her sculpture. The sculpture features a First Native American in a full headdress holding shallow bowls in each hand. Each bowl served as public drinking fountains at some point. Pause to think about the historical significance and history that happened here as you visit the San Antonio Riverwalk.

Yanaguana! This is one of my favorite places to hang out…read moredowntown San Antonio. If you can figure out how to get here without a car, this is a great vantage point to see San Antonio, and a great place to start off an adventure downtown. I've always wondered who built this, and Helene S.'s review was quite illuminating! So this sculpture is next to Sebastian's International Torch of Friendship, a maybe 30-40' high red sculpture that's hard to miss. Between this sculpture and that one is the famed Portland Loo- an outdoor free restroom. There's also the elevator that takes you down to the Riverwalk here. Standing on the bridge where this First Inhabitant sculpture is, this is a good spot to eavesdrop on the river cruises below, or just smell the Mexican food coming from Casa Rio. The Indian depicted in this carving must be a Yanaguana Indian chief, as they were the first Indians who were known to inhabit the San Antonio River area thousands of years ago. They covered an area a bit more up river near the University of Incarnate Word down along this river to where the Missions are today. Today, down the street at Hemisfair Park, you'll find Yanaguana Gardens, which celebrates this tribe.

What I like about small vineyards is they have the freedom to experiment and create a variety of wines and blends using different varieties and winemaking styles. This innovation leads to fresh and evolving tasting experiences that keep wine interesting, exciting, and perhaps most importantly, personal. Small vineyards also focus on quality and sustainable farming, and produce smaller quantities of wine. This locally owned small vineyard has bold reds and crisp whites and breathtaking views at sunset. For my partner, I purchased a bottle of the 2019 Mourvèdre. This vino is smokey and bold with cholocatre undertones. This vino will pair well with steak and other red meats. While I am not a fan of reds, the quality and legs on this vino is undeniable. I purchased a glass of 2021 Barrel Aged Trebbiano which was reminiscent of a Cabernet Sauvignon blanc. Cabernet Blanc wines have a flavor profile that's similar to a mix of Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. They can be dry, but some are made to be slightly sweet. This Trebbiano was more dry that sweet which I adore. Aside from the vinos, the sunset views when sitting on the deck are stunning. My partner and I sat and watched the sun go down with glasses in hand. The vino coupled with the views made this outing magical.
