The experience I have had using Career Services at DeVry has been fantastic! VIDEO TUTORIALS and documents are there to develop us as a polished career professional. I am so happy that we can save videos and documents. Wouldn't you like everything from a presentation? You can in a Career Service Webinar. After each Webinar, the Career Advisor provides the links, video recording, and the Presentation pdf. Wouldn't you like better the person providing you a service to be passionate? That's exactly what you get when you utilize Career Services. I registered for one-on-one assistance. I was assigned to Shannon and she is remarkable! Shannon is also very knowledgeable about the industry that I am in and that is Electronics Engineering. I think that's very important I feel that when I'm working with Shannon, I'm working with an employer. Shannon is connected to the industry and is an experienced recruiter herself; she knows what employers look for in a resume and the candidate. I love that she utilizes the communication technology needed for the global Workforce (emails, phone calls, document sharing, screen sharing, and WebEx). These are the skills that are used to communicate in a global workforce. Shannon always gives me feedback, not just in our bi-weekly meetings, but in Follow up emails as well. This is very valuable to me. She has outstanding work Ethics and addresses all of my questions (that can be A lot of work). This Service would cost hundreds of dollars, but it is free to DeVry Graduate and alumni, so I'm going to take advantage of it. Professor Barbara Strauch is an amazing Algebra teacher. I am currently taking her Math class and I have to say that I find her WebEx's on Monday nights very helpful. I was super nervous about taking a math class online since I am more of a visual learner. But I have really enjoyed this class so far. I am happy to say that I have a A so far in the class and this is all because of Professor Strauch's teaching methods. read more

Barbara Strauch did an excellent job at teaching the Algebra in my first time. I didn't appreciate that enough until I reached my next class where it was not nearly as enjoyable. I find a lot of what Devry tells me to be misleading, honestly. But I can say that Barbara was a joy to have and I wish more instructors were like her. My Logic and Design class has been horrible. DeVry has been a learning experience for me, it taught me a lot about time management since I was taking online classes. I do feel like I learned a lot from the classes I have taken, but the further steps I take in my career, and figuring out what I want to do with my degree is my responsibility. DeVry University was one of the best choices I made for my college career. Everyone there whether it is an instructor, career service, or even another student is so helpful and kind. Every Professor I had made it their duty to make sure you succeeded and had the tools you needed to do so. One Professor I had specifically is Professor Hughes! If you can get a class with her, you won't regret it. I had her for one of my first classes there and she has been nothing but a blessing since then. Classes are flexible whether you want to take online or on site. You get your degree in 3 years and they help you find a job when you're about to graduate! I'm in the process of pursuing legal action against DeVry myself right now but I really wanted to take a moment to thank Mr. Devin R for his review. I know the teachers you're talking about. I remember Eddie. I know the teachers loved him. If I remember correctly he made his own game engine, a real smart guy. And yes faculty ate that up. I think they liked to think they had something to do with his knowledge. I remember them saying like, alright students be like this guy... It's like, well teach me and I will be... Gosh this school is so awful. Im in over 100k worth of debt because of this school. I finally have an ehh job that pays 60k a year but im basically just making interest only payments at this point, I'm not even putting a dent into it. My experience with Devry starts with the recruiter who came to my family's home as I was getting ready to graduate high school. The recruiter told me to enroll in the wrong program which I did cause I didn't know any better and trusted him. I kept wondering when what I was learning would tie into game dev and I kept looking for connections but there were none to be found. Finally I learned about the GSP program so I changed my major, moved out to Illinois, and attended this Devry in Tinley Park. Having been to two different locations and having a friend who has been to two others as well, I can tell you the quality of education, or rather the lack thereof, is a characteristic of Devry as a whole and is not bound to any particular location. While attending this Devry I had one teacher in particular, Professor Randall Sharpe who was repeatedly absent. Devry once had an English teacher subbing for one of his classes which was titled "Math for Game Programming" which involved math and computer programming none of which this English teacher knew anything about, which was no surprise, and I did ask her because I needed help and Mr. Sharpe wasn't showing up. I went to Mr. Brannigan who was the dean at the time and I voiced my concerns to him about the school. I told him I wasn't getting what I felt I should be out of my core classes. He responded by telling me I was making excuses for myself and that if I wanted to be a game programmer I would be. I was outraged to hear this, told him he didn't know a thing about me and left his office. Devry doesn't care about educating you or what you think, they just want your money and that's it. I wanted to quit and drop out many times but I felt I would be letting them win if I did that... I had already vested so much time and money into the school I didn't want to walk away empty handed. I graduated in February 2010 with a bachelor of science in game and simulation programming and to this day going to Devry was the biggest mistake I ever made and continues to make my life very difficult. I really hope DeVry gets what's coming to them and I hope the fellow students and people who left get reimbursed. The dean Devin is referring to is David Brannigan. He's no longer the dean though. He stepped down shortly after some events took place with me after I voiced my concerns to him. I can't say for sure I was the reason he stepped down but it did seem that way. Professor Sharpe made us all create accounts to this dumb looney toon game for kids as a homework assignment. Little dumb crap like this is what we were told to do to "prepare us for the business world". I remember not wanting to install the program on my computer cause it was so stupid but that is what he told us to do. Was it an easy grade? Sure, but this was not what I traveled and spent all this time and money for. Man Devin, you really hit the nail on the head. You said so much so well. The GSP lab was just an arcade room basically. And yeah, so many kids in there just wasting time. Of course what else was there to do there? Learn? No, no learning took place here. Professor Pasierb was so old and moved so slow, he didnt know anything about game dev. It took him about an hour just to boot up and start teaching. When i say boot up im not talking about his computer... He's so old, he'd just stand in front of the class for a while and not do or say anything. We would all be sitting there waiting, looking at him while he stared down at the podium... Stay away at all costs. These stories may be funny to some but the reality is not. Your hopes and dreams crushed, your life forever changed. If you can win a legal dispute that's great otherwise you're stuck. I wouldnt wish it on anyone. DeVry University and it's affiliate colleges give every student many chances for success in their education. Aside from school sponsored events and tutoring, the real winning feature for DeVry is their employees. I have not experienced a professor that has not been more than willing, insisting even, to contact them after school hours if additional help is needed with a course. Some even ask for the student to reach out to them if any help is needed outside of their course! That is what I call a team of professors with student's education as their focus. With DeVry University employing such dedicated educators, I recommend this college to anyone looking to further their education. read more

I attended DeVry for 3 years for my second degree and had a great and wonderful educational experience which I plan to continue. One of the most helpful was the math department. Professor Barbara Strauch was at the beginning of my math experience and also became my educational mentor at DeVry. She helped me through the toughest times especially through my math experience (since that is my worst subject). She gave one on one experience in classes that were small for that experience. I recommend DeVry for the one on one experience and the mentor ship that I received and hope to return for this experience. read more

I was in the first group of students that graduated from Devry in the GSP (Game and Simulation Programming). This was an absolute horror of a program and pretty much thievery. The professors in our program had 0 experience in the field of game programming. In fact, one of the professors worked as a programmer for coin operated slot machines in the late 70s. He had absolutely no idea how to program games from even the 80s let alone this day and age. The programming language he used in the field is not even used anymore!! Another professor who taught 6+ classes was addicted to World of Warcraft and often played in class. I WISH I was joking but I'm not. The one professor who was actually knowledgable in general c programming was promoted to Dean of the new GSP program so he never taught again after that first class I had him. In our small class of 6-8 students 2 of them who were self taught prior to attending Devry basically taught us other students every day. In fact they should have been the professors and the actual professors the students, cause they constantly asked those 2 students questions about the material and lessons. They truely did not even know. The first 2 and 1/2 years of the 4 year program were all general ed classes and hardly any programming. In fact one of the classes (which averaged around $2,500 per class) was literally just about different games that had came out in the past. Another class about modeling (that's a whole different field and degree). These classes just seemed like filler so they could spit out a full degree program. It wasnt until deep in my 3rd year that I realized what a sham this was. At that point I just finished out the degree as I was already nearly $30,000 invested into it. Last time I spoke to my other classmates (about 1 and 1/2 years after graduation, now 6 years ago) they had found a lawyer who was going to take their case and sue Devry for fraud. Now I am 30 years old nd have a well paying job as a union laborer STILL with $18,000 in student loan debt. My one regret in life is going to that place in the GSP program. PLEASE do yourself a favor and avoid devry and the GSP program like the plague and thank me for it later in life. Go to DePaul or another respected University and get a degree in Computer Science. These people even had the balls to call me 5 years down the road and ask how I felt about my experience at devry and if I would recommend it to others. Needless to say I unloaded on them. Matt and Eddie, if you guys ever read this post I want to thank you for all of your help through the years at DeVry. I probably would have never graduated with out you two. Thank you for taking on the roll of "Professor" even though you were only students. Edit - A note to parents who read this: I feel terrible that my parents wasted some of their hard earned money on this "degree". Their GSP "lab" is a room with several video game consoles hooked up to flatscreen TVS and computers with games installed on them. Many students would not even show up to class because they were in the "lab" playing video games. Please do not let your children use this GSP degree and campus as a way to feed their video game addiction while having an excuse like they are learning. They would greatly benefit from a truly respected college and the experience of having to live on their own and learn responsibility. I had my degree framed and gave it to my mother so she would feel like I accomplished something at this school when in reality I would have used that degree as toilet paper. This is my 100% honest review of the GSP program and Tinley Park DeVry campus. I am a freshman and I love this school. I don't think I could be myself anywhere else. The Professors are helpful and the DeVry team are just so welcoming. I feel like we are a little family because it is a small campus. But I feel comfortable and I love this school. You can never fail because you are only taking a couple classes and they offer help all the time. Anyone at Devry is willing to help and make you succeed. read more
