I have had the benefit (or not, depending on how you look at it!) of experiencing the old…read moremanagement and the new, as I moved in (04/2015) right as they sold the place to the company that owns Philamer and another complex in Royal Oak. We were all told initially that our rents would increase from 590 to possibly $50 or a little or, depending on the type of unit you have. I have the oldest unit with no updates. Needless to say, I was upset when it was increased over $100 to $725, being told they had to compete with "market values." They attempted to soften the blow by saying the pool is getting redone for summer and we'll provide some other updates to make it "worth your while." This was in April, 2016. Now, almost 6 months later, the pool area is not done, and I have yet to see any of the promised modifications to my unit such as: new windows, new doors, wood floors, new light fixtures, etc. The pool and the front of the building are absolute EYESORES, with dirt piles everywhere. To add insult to injury, they give their current residents the figurative middle finger constantly by renovating all the old units when people move out, never taking any time to update the current units of their current tenants. I can understand the need for bringing more people in, however there's a balance here that is not happening. I've been hounding management for months to get what was promised, with little to no response. They are only worried about money, and it's obvious. I've noticed that since they have taken over, the turnover here has been very high. Apart from the crappy management, my neighbors smoke a ton of pot and have loud, barking dogs. So if that's not an issue for you, great. If it is, don't expect the management to do anything about it, because they don't care. I am counting down the days until my lease is up and I can get out of this place. There are better places to live. Don't do it.

After five great years here, I'm now alone having lost my husband three months ago. It's a blessing to be here where the management cares and never fails to smile and respond to any problems the very same day! This is a lovely building in a neighborhood, not a commercial area. Yet we are close to everything. I feel safe here no matter the time of day or night. Big plus.....concrete walls! Hardly ever hear anything other than your own TV. When anyone asks me where I live, I'm proud to say, "At Oxford Park Towers!"

Surrounded by fun places and things to do and also lots of great shopping. You can also walk to many places. So as far as location goes, this is a great city to live in. If you love the Dream Cruise, Vinsetta's Garage and Arts Beats and Eats, you will love this location, The actual towers were a huge disappointment during the time I lived there. They are not elegant in the least, nor are they comfortable or functional. They are old and run down, and the decor on the floors very dated, dark and dismal. I lived here a year and the carpeting on the individual floors were never cleaned. The furniture in all the sitting areas were urine stained. The storage areas smelled old and musty. The laundry room only had 2 washers and 2 dryers on each floor and there were 32 residents per floor. The washers and dryers were the old kind that ruin your clothes. Thank goodness for the dry cleaner on Woodward. I am not handicapped, but for those that are, this is NOT the place you want to call home as they have no special amenities for the handicapped. They struggle to maneuver in and around the establishment. I am a young active senior, and to me, this place borders on being an assisted living facility. Incontinence and dementia will be seen on a daily basis, and then there are the residents you never see because they have 24 hour nursing staff that cares for them. They have physical therapists, social workers and doctors that visit the residents also. I think their advertising needs to be revised. The people of the towers, most of them, are very wonderful, kind, compassionate individuals. You will also find the "popular crowd" and lots of gossip just like in High School. I interacted with very few people as I knew a few months into my lease I would not be renewing. Smoking is allowed in the building in the apartments. The lobby, elevators and floors reek of cigarette smoke. It's horrible to be a non smoker and smell smoke in your apartment. You will see the grounds littered with trash and cigarette butts. The stairwells are full of dead bugs and never get mopped. I love the stairs, but this was nasty to see on a daily basis. Parking is another issue. They will not assign parking spaces and it's always a gamble whether or not you will get a spot to park in the parking lot. I went out a lot as I am very active and have a fun life and friends outside of the towers. They have off street parking but there is vandalism/smashing car windows so you don't want to park on the side street. The problem is family, friends, nursing aids, therapists, doctors and social workers visit residents and park in the resident parking. For an entire year they have said they were going to enforce the "tow away" policy but never have. Also you have people who probably should not be driving and they take up more than one space because their driving capabilities are diminished. This building, while I lived there had on my floor, and supposedly still has bed bugs. I understand protecting the privacy of the tenant that has the bed bugs, however I think the other tenants in the building have a right to know and they do not tell you. You will find out through the grapevine and hope they don't come visit your apartment. They keep the garbage dumpsters right under tenant balconies in the parking lot area. Who wants to look outside and see dumpsters. And the noise of the garbage trucks constantly! I lived on the courtyard side and my view was dead trees. The grounds are full of dead and untrimmed tress with disease. It's quite sad as the place does have a lovely setting if it were properly maintained. The common picnic area hasn't had any tables/chairs/umbrella's in 2 years. I heard all last year that they're ordered and waiting for delivery. Many residents here never leave the premises and it would be nice if this company provided them with some outdoor furniture for some outdoor enjoyment. I can't image this atmosphere here is conducive to the well being of many of it's handicapped/non driving residents. They have a huge grill but no one can use it unless one of the maintenance men are present. Why have a grill and hear all about the wonderful amenities here if you can't use something? They have 2 elevators and one is constantly out of order. I've heard through the grapevine they shut one down to save energy. Hopefully they never have an emergency that warrants both elevators working as the building would be hard pressed to have both working at the same time. Their sprinkling system does not work. Instead of paying professionals to fix them, they have the maintenance men attempt a job they are not qualified to accomplish. This place is even too cheap to have the parking space lines retouched professionally. This will be continued, I am out of space!

I texted pictures of the bugs since moving into the infested apt.i was informed prior to me moving in the unit was treated 3 times and inspected .whatttt¡! Since I've had the apt it's been an additional 2 times. I turned in ziplock back I've collected a total 15 bedbug prior to the so called treatment the exterminator wanted to see the bugs . I literally went back to my place and inspected/collected 10 more bedbugs the next day. My anxiety is at an all time high. I today had works with quote unquote management about my current living situation in said infested apt. Which I replied I had to get a room away for my own sanity a few days. The response I received was well move there then. This is how we treat disabled war veterans on limited funds. I did 4 combat tours for our country fighting for freedom and the American way and this the thanks I get .A slap in the face and substandard living. I've had to throw away all my things and clothes. No offer of another clean bug free apartment, no temporary lodging until the problem is fixed , just basically make sure the rent paid in full on the 1st or your on the streets. This is the worst place I have ever lived, and I've lived in a shared house without any heating or cooling. If negative stars were an option I would have used those for my rating. The entire time I have lived here it has been nothing but issues here. First off, whenever I moved into my apartment it was unfinished there was a hole in the wall leaking water, the bathtub was not properly caulked, and people were working on the unit for about a couple weeks after I moved in. The toilet wasn't working properly as well for a while... There was also mold and cigarette tar on the bathroom ceiling which has never been addressed. Additionally, the apartment is poorly put together. There are places where drywall isn't sanded down, the walls are cracking/not attached at certain places, and paint is chipping on the walls and radiators. My old roommate had water damage within her room and it wasn't addressed for a week. The crack within the ceiling is still there to. Within our unit, there was also no internet hookup and they had somebody drill into the wall to set it up. To make things worse, they do not care about their tenets at all. I went several weeks without any heat in the dead of winter. Originally i was brushed off by staff saying the boiler wasn't on, but when they looked into it the radiator in my unit was clogged and was the wrong size. This wasn't fixed until I brought up the law regarding heating during the winter. When it was fixed, staff did not clean up the mess and left sludge/residue on our carpet. They also do not take out the trash regularly; I've had other tenets comment on the smell on their floor and ask me if it was an issue on mine. And yes, there are pest rampant throughout this place. Bed bugs, roaches, you name it. Pest control is here twice a week if that tells you anything... Property management downplays this and will tell you it isn't the bad, but there are roaches larger than my thumb at this place. I've had to throw away mattress, bedding, and items due to the infestation. The only thing good about this place is most of the other tenets and the front desk staff. The front desk is hit or miss at times too. I've had to wait several hours, if not days to get a package because nobody is there. I don't expect 24/7 staff, but I shouldn't have to wait days to get a package. Besides that, there's nothing good about this place, I've never felt more disrespected and ignored by management than here. Do yourself a favor, and pay the extra hundred dollars to live elsewhere; it will save you so much money, time, and stress in the long run. I'm moving out in less than a week and I'm so glad to be out. Keep yourself and your loved ones safe by not living here.

I really enjoyed working with a small apartment complex rather than the ones owned and run by a very large apartment complex. As a result, you're treated as a person rather than a number, and I think the lease terms reflect that. For example, when my employer closed their Detroit office, it was an easy process to terminate my lease with very reasonable terms. I only owed the difference in rent for the time it took the apartment complex to fill the occupancy. Finding such reasonable flexibility like that is really a rarity!
