Whoever is at the desk tends to be the only nice one around, this shop is kinda full of dickheads tbh. They don't greet you or speak and seem utterly disinterested in acknowledging you at all. I walked in twice after calling and was turned away both times because artists weren't available but every time I visited at least 3 of them were outside smoking or on their phones. Which is frustrating because well, I called and was told to come on down and I don't live near there. My experience here wasn't an anomaly either because every other ~black~ person I've spoken to after the fact, their experience is on par; turned away, not acknowledged, multiple artists outside smoking when you pull up. Don't get me wrong, people need their breaks and are entitled to such, but ain't no way every time someone arrives you're taking one despite being "busy." I will say one person who related to my experience said it's an issue of new shitty attitudes because she got a tattoo done here years back and her experience was amazing from not only her artist, but other artists at the shop as well. She said walking in to this place a couple months back with her daughter both shocked and pissed her off because she couldn't believe how abysmal service had gotten, as if just being there was an inconvenience to them. Luckily there are two shops; one next door and one across the street, both of which know what customer service are. You'd fare better there. read more

Absolute great experience getting a tattoo here today! I called before I went in and they said if I went in right now, they could squeeze me in as a walk-in. The shop was clean and nicely decorated. The workers were a lot friendlier than some of the other shops nearby which made my decision really easy as to where to go. My artist was Matt and he took his time in drawing me an original Queen of Hearts tattoo. He drew the piece to be perfect and was OCD about it being symmetrical. I love the way it turned out and it didn't hurt at all. I definitely plan on coming back here whenever I'm back in the Columbia area. I totally recommend only going to this tattoo shop. read more

If you want an "artist" who cares about your tattoo that is going to be on you for life do NOT go to Matt. I asked for a simple two inch size rose with no shading and made from a few single lines. He drew it ONE time from a picture I showed him and when I told him I liked it but wanted it smaller he told me he was getting very irritated and wasn't going to do it. I grabbed the pen and tried to draw it myself and he said no. Then asked me what was the point of getting a tattoo if I wanted it smaller. So my family has been coming here for their tattoos for the longest but it wasn't until august of 2018 I was actually able to experience how great they are. I got my first two tattoos (the "God is greater than the highs and low" and infinity sign) and was blown away with the job he did (unfortunately i can't remember his name). The infinity symbol tattoo was one created by my sister in which the artist was able to duplicate perfectly. I got my third tattoo (the butterfly) in January of 2019 by Jimmy and yet again I was blown away by the job. My 4th was done somewhere else but I came back here for my 5th in January 18, 2020 where I was able to walk in and within 20 mins I was already getting the stencil put on me. I was able to show Kyle exactly what I wanted and he did great. He was very informative and told me about the tweaks he had to make the tattoo for it to come out perfect. Devine Street Tattoo will probably be the only place I will get my tattoos (unless the case of my 4th where I was out of town). Their professionalism and kindness blows me away every single time. The shop is clean and the prices are fair. When I went in with a friend (we are both young females), the guy at the counter was very dismissive. It felt like he saw us as just a couple of silly girls who weren't serious and/or weren't going to spend a lot of money so it wasn't worth his time to act remotely interested in our business. What we wanted was a short phrase of text. Maybe he had a lot on his mind or something, but he was acting like it was a waste of his time to even help us decide on a font. We told him we wanted *handwritten* cursive script, and he looked at us like we were just bothering the hell out of him and started looking through fonts on Microsoft word (???). I showed him a picture of a different tattoo in a script I liked, and asked if he could sort of mimic that with the text we wanted. He looked at the picture but didn't make any kind of effort to sketch it or find someone else who would. In the end, he picked a font on the computer that was not exactly what we wanted but was ok (in hindsight I should have just taken these first red flags and gone to another shop). Then he waved us along to a tattooist (won't call either of them artists bc I don't know if they actually are; no one even attempted to draw us an original design) who had to be fresh out of training. His demeanor was professional and nice, but his skills were subpar, which is evident in my now fully healed tattoo. It is patchy, extremely raised, and still gets painfully sore sometimes in the tissue underneath the tat. I only had one other tattoo before this, so I don't know a lot about them, but my other one is smooth and never hurts. I have been told by people with more tattoo experience that it's because this tattooist put the needle too deep into the skin, causing scar tissue to form, which prevented it from healing smoothly. If he was still at the level of messing up simple text, a more experienced tattooist should have been shadowing him and helping him. People are getting permanent art on their bodies; it was very uncool that they were so dismissive and careless (I can only assume it's bc my friend and I were young and didn't have many other tattoos so they didn't take us seriously) and gave us shoddy work from an under-experienced tattooist. I would only go back to the shop to work with a different (read: better) tattooist who is actually an artist willing to show me their previous work, take time to listen to exactly what I want, and draw it to my satisfaction. read more

This is by far the best place in town. I can't recommend it enough. I was referred to Jonathon by multiple people and am so grateful I took their advice. I went in with multiple references for the tattoo I wanted (color, size, style, etc) - I don't know how he did it, but he came back with the perfect culmination of everything I was trying to express that I wanted. I came home for holiday vacation to visit my mother, and within 10 minutes noticed two dark bruise-like spots on her wrist. "You weren't supposed to see that!," she exclaimed. After freaking out and asking all those terrifying questions a 30 year old has to worry about for their aging mother like, "were you in the hospital?, did you get mugged?, is someone hurting you?," etc- she finally admitted she'd gotten a small tattoo on her wrist. Two little dots of green ink had become scabby, infected-looking spots with dark rings of red around them. "Who did this to you?!," I asked. "Dave, at Devine tattoos," she replied. "Why didn't you go to my guy above Art Bar?" "I don't know, there were good reviews." "Well, didn't he explain to you how to take care of it afterwards?" "Yeah, he said to wash it with Dial soap and then put Aveeno on it." "What?!? It's DR. BRONNERS SOAP AND AQUAPHOR!! He told you that?? That soap is too harsh and that lotion is not emollient enough!" "Well, that's what he's said. It is kind of worrying. I thought it'd be better after a month. I went back after it started looking like this and he said to stop doing anything to it at all." Well, very long story short - two days with Aquaphor, the scabs have healed up and the bruised appearance is rapidly diminishing. There are huge gaps in her tiny tattoo though, from where it'd scabbed and the ink was lost in the healing process. I'm shocked that they're not recommending proper aftercare at this place, especially to a tattoo virgin. Seniors should be required to get permission slips from their children to get a tattoo, just like teenagers have to from their parents, but until then, you old fogies steer clear of this place. read more

Visiting from out of town and my daughter was ready to experience her 1st tattoo experience. So my sister that lives in the area was recommended Devine. So we did our homework and read on line that on Sat they don't take appointments so we decided to be there right at 12 when they open. We were not met with great customer service, or honoring their own words on their website that they don't take appointments. Apparently they do if you make an deposit which isn't stated on what we read. The one gentleman that was talking to is just seemed to really not care that we were their based off the information on their website, while the2 second guy was chuckling with sarcastic laughter as my sister was trying to talk to a third gentleman that seemed to be the only apologetic person present. Maybe in the tattoo world customer service isn't important just the artist but this experience ruined my daughters trip. Doesn't matter how busy you are or how booked you are stick to the rules you've set forth. Not a single customer was in the shop while we were waking and yet my daughter couldn't be serviced. As we were about to leave the 2nd guy said I just got an opening after her got off the phone with an alleged appointment. At that point I don't want a tattoo from her. Just work on how to talk to people read more
