Two stars because it's my own damn fault for coming back…read more I asked for a ducktail. Specifically I wanted my long ducktail beard trimmed about an inch into a medium ducktail that no longer hung past my undershirt collar. I should have walked out when he stared at me blankly but they charge for last minute cancelations, so I did my best to explain it. Because I have to have a photo taken for professional reasons on in two days I was stuck. This was my second attempt at a beard trim from this barber shop. I was disappointed with the first but thought that may have been my fault for coming it with it freshly washed and brushed but not styled. So I when I got home that time I did my best to fix it and had to wait for it to grow out to get it right. I came in with it straightend and styled in my everyday manner this time. It still had the ducktail lines and point. I wanted the flair near my ears removed and the lines sharpened. I left with a rounded off beard that barely reaches my Adam's apple. And it is lop-sided. The longest part of the beard is about an inch off center. My face looks bent now. The hair on my neck and under my jaw was trimmed far to short and it no longer angles slightly forward as before. No longer does my beard get longer from the back to the front in a sharp line, It has been rounded off in the front as well as the side. There is no straight line to be seen. Overall the hair is too short to trim the angles and line back into it without becoming a goatee. I now have a rounded off beard that is lop-sidded. You asked me, when you finally let me see the damage, if it was what I wanted. I said yes so that we could be done. In truth sir what I wanted was to leave as quickly as possible so you couldn't make it worse. I will not be returning, I will tell people of the butchering I received and I will show them pictures. I will recommend that people avoid this establishment.

But when I hit the "Big 6-0", I wanted to have fun with different cuts and colors. Salon W ladies have provided me with my wishes - most of all Tammy. When it comes down to is, Tammy is patient, professional, and presents a personal relationship with me, her client. She took the time to evaluate my hair and discuss what would be the best approach for what I wanted. She listened and understood what I wanted - I loved all her suggestions appreciated the time she took to walk thru the evaluation and process. Tammy provides me total peace of mind whenever she does something "new" or "different". She doesn't mind saying "No, I don't think that will work." Or "Maybe we should try something a little different." Actually, there are times that Tammy, Lorri, Bri, and I have a discussion on what would be different "this time". LOL Salon W staff is one of the best groups of professional stylists that I have met over my past 60+ years. I would recommend ANY of the ladies at Salon W.

There were also a few interesting items like candles, aftershave, pens, and whisky glasses that caught my eye. When I came in, they had an upstairs section run by a local company called Snail on the Wall. Check them out if you have the time, I believe they're there until the end of winter. They also have a barber shop in the corner by the professional section - appointment only from what I understand though, but it comes in handy if you need to get it all one-and-done in a single outing. Had a great conversation with the barber there on men's style and fashion. In fact, all of the employees there were super friendly. I'd definitely go back again to treat myself or get a little something as a gift.

Wow, my previous review was a while ago and it's time for an update! Now, I cannot recall a…read moretime/year that was "pre-Mason," and that's a good thing!! He has been my stylist [I'm told "hairdresser" is a dated term] for more than 14 years. I recommend him any chance I get and one of my sorority sister's goes to Mason and has also brought him several clients! Yay! The only thing, from a client perspective is, it's a little more [but only slightly so] difficult to get an appointment - what I mean is, some occasions I'll have to wait a week longer than normal for my next appointment, likely due to the times of day I prefer. Back to Mason, not only is he an absolute genius at what he does, he is an incredible human being. Mason broke the bar of excellence in ensuring to be timely, ensuring *you* are his sole focus, including your comfort [beverages, food delivery from nearby sushi place, charging your cell phone, booking your next appointment via Vagaro, thoroughly explaining and selecting new products for you, etc.] He helped set a pair of hair shears I recently bought for me to use to trim my elderly Mom's hair myself at her memory care, and he even offered to do it himself on his off day [*who* does that?!?!] Mason is thoughtful, thorough, accessible, responsive, attentive, confident, skilled, calm, funny as all get out, a great conversationalist, helpful, and kind. I trust him explicitly with my hair, which really suffered during C-19 due to me having to use boxed hair color at home for so long - UGH!! When he asks, "What are we going to do with your hair today?" I always happily say, "Whatever you want to do, Mason, you're the pro!" And I am absolutely never ever disappointed. On to the salon, Fringe: Fringe is absolutely spotless with extremely hard-working, friendly, fun-loving yet professional people who constantly and seamlessly sweep, remove trash, wash towels, handle clients all while beautifying clients. Since my write-up of 2015, the owner was able to secure the adjacent space [Yay to the added space], and the clothing [t-shirts; dresses; jeans and sweaters] items are no longer for sale; however, they still offer accessories, candles, hair products, drinkware, jewelry, eyewear and additional retail products. I miss browsing the clothing while processing but that made space for additional stylists, a wonderful bonus for Fringe [and clients]. Fringe, primarily because of Mason, truly is my "happy place," and oftentimes my sorority sister/s come "along for the ride" to my appointments, because everyone loves time with Mason, and following an appointment we can enjoy a meal at Campus 805 or nearby Stovehouse. Thank you, Mason!
