We recently came here for the second time and met some friends for dinner. It was their first time…read moreeating at the Twisted Tavern. Everything our group ordered was delicious! What really stood out to me was the service we received! I really appreciated not being rushed through our meal. The fact that they actually let you order your courses separately so they're not coming out on top of each other was refreshing. And even though it was a Friday night and there were others waiting to get in we weren't rushed to pay our bill but instead invited to take our time. We hadn't seen or heard much about their pizzas, but we were in the mood for one and decided to order the meat pizza. It was made in a brick oven and it was really tasty. Honestly there were so many toppings that we ended up asking for an extra cup of the marinara sauce to dip it in. The sauce is made in house, it was delicious and the waitress said it's the same one that's used with the spaghetti and meatballs. In regard to the pizza size even though they're considered personal pizzas it was definitely bigger than we were anticipating. I would say they're close to 11 to 12 inches in diameter. My husband and I each enjoyed two pieces with our salad and took the other half home with us. They are definitely big enough to share, especially if you're ordering an appetizer or a salad to go with it. Our group very much enjoyed the artichoke spinach dip. It came with bread that had been cooked in their brick oven and I love that the spinach was in bigger pieces. My husband, and I also shared the harvest salad which had butternut squash on it, candied pecans & goat cheese. It was really yummy. Others in our group enjoyed the salmon and the crispy chicken sandwich. I had recently seen on a local Jefferson County page that many people consider Twisted Tavern the best place for a good piece of cake specifically, their wedding cake . Truth is that was the primary reason why I suggested this restaurant to meet our friends at but sadly by the time we finished our meal and were ready to order dessert they had already sold out. We were told this does not usually happen. Overall, we found tasty fresh food made in house, great service and fair prices. I am already planning another visit to the Twisted Tavern (so I can try their wedding cake! ).

Spinach dip, onion rings, fried pickles, Brussel sprouts, and aside of spaghetti. The brussels sprouts were nicely fried, a little greasy. The fried pickles were lightly breaded, but very salty. The side of spaghetti was large enough to be a full serving. Wasn't overly impressed with the food, but the service here was top-notch.

All restaurants have bad days and that must be taken into account. Now, for a GOOD review: The service is great! Our hostess, Taylor, was very pleasant and sat us right away in a good spot. She made sure that our server was with us almost immediately. Thanks, Taylor! Our server, Coleen, was very nice and informative. She checked with us just often enough to be attentive and genuinely concerned about our food and our enjoyment of it. Thanks, Colleen! My wife ordered the Windsor French Toast, which had fresh strawberries and blueberries with a sweet and yummy cheese spread on top. The perfect brunch dish! I got the fried Catfish and Fries - I'm from the South ( the Carolinas ) and we sometimes have catfish for breakfast, so this was my brunch item. The catfish was AWESOME! Very mild and tasty breading. I'm not usually a big fan of Tartar Sauce, but once I tried it, I had to put a little on every bite. The fries were some of the best I have ever had! Crispy coated and tasted like they were deep fried in butter!! Ask your server how they do this ;) - The ambiance is fantastic! A bit close quartered in some spots, but there is a lot of alternative seating, so you can be comfortable. The outdoor seating is really nice. I love this place. I highly recommend it. I want to give Taylor and Colleen my personal SIX Stars ****** for making our visit amazing. And special kudos to the kitchen staff for making such great food! Please do yourself a favor and EAT HERE!!!

The restaurant was cleaner inside and it was busy but not overall packed. Our waitress checked in on us frequently to keep our drinks full! I got the shrimp speidini and white pasta. Every one of them the food has dropped in quality, quantity and consistency while prices skyrocket up. Some of the restaurants are better than others but still nothing like what it use to be. Servers and bartenders are still good for the most part. Couple weeks ago we tried Frankie G's Imperial one more time and we were there with friends that have also been going for years, we both agreed it would be our last time unless you guys change your ways. One of the other main issue is management. Same visit our friend informed one of the workers that the woman's restroom was disgusting. Male manager shortly after peeked his head into the men's restroom and yelled is it dirty or disgusting in here? He stated he didn't think it was and actually was asking customers if it was because someone complained. It wasn't horrible in the mens, but it wasn't really clean either. Dude just clean your restrooms. Didn't even realize it was the woman's restroom in question and didn't see him address it. Our same friends were there couple weeks earlier and it wasn't really busy since it was early. They hadn't received their food in over an hour while others that came in after, got their food. My buddy asked the woman manager what was going on and she snapped at him saying the kitchen was really busy and they would get their food when its ready? They finally got their food and wasn't that great as well as the manager was mean mugging my buddy the entire time. It got so bad he actually was mean mugging back. No apologies or recognition of the problem, only an attitude and mean mugging a customer. Unbelievable, my buddy is an easy going very nice guy and got a chuckle out doing the same thing to her. But if she would have done that crap to me I would've went up to her and demanded she call her boss. Completely unacceptable behavior. I've owned and managed a successful buisness for 30 years, would never think of doing anything like this and would never allow any of my employees to act like this without being reprimanded and or fired. Apparently management is so arrogant and blind to see problems at hand and or just don't care. Its not the customers fault you suck now. Get your crap together and get back to old school basics like you use to do. Such a shame and hope the owners start to realize this and make the needed changes.

This cute town of Kimmswick was bustling on the Sunday when I went and luckily I went when I did as I was passing through the St Louis area, since The Blue Owl is closed on Mondays. I managed to get inside and buy a slice of their very famous Levee High Apple Pie. This pie is legendary with it's sheer size and massive amounts of praise heaped upon it. They have two crust varieties with the traditional sugar sprinkled one and a caramel pecan one. i chose the traditional pie. The large piece you get can be shared my 2 people easily and as I ate it in my car outside, I wish it had been warmed up a bit. The pie is decent with great flavor and crust but not spectacular. I come from Washington State where the apple is our main fruit grown and prized around the world. We make lots of apple products as a result so I've tried my fair share. My mom has made better apple pie at home in my youth. Maybe this pie has gone a bit downhill since it is now so famous and they need to mass produce it? I did enjoy it and recommend others to try it and provide their own opinions. Visiting Kimmswick can be a fun side trip when in the greater St Louis area as the small town has lots of charm with cute shops and even an apple butter festival.

Today my bestie and I took a trip down to Kimmswick and made a stop at the Blue Owl Restaurant &…read moreBakery for lunch. It had been years since we had visited, and we were excited to spend the day walking around the little town and enjoying a meal at one of the places it's known for. We arrived around 11 a.m., and it was the perfect timing. There was plenty of parking, and we were able to walk right in and get seated. After lunch, we spent about an hour shopping around town, and when we came back through, the parking lot was packed and the sidewalks were much busier. I would definitely recommend arriving earlier if you want a more relaxed experience. Even though it was August, the weather was surprisingly beautiful, with temperatures in the low 70s, so we decided to sit out on the veranda. It was such a great choice. The view was peaceful, there was a nice breeze, and it felt like we were enjoying lunch somewhere special rather than just sitting inside a busy restaurant. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Our waitress was wonderful--very attentive and friendly. We must have been on the same wavelength because every time I asked for her opinion between two choices, she picked the exact one I was already leaning toward without me telling her. Her recommendations were spot on! We both ordered the trio, which allows you to choose three items from a selected menu. We each started with the white chili, and it was perfect for the cooler summer day. It was warm, comforting, and full of flavor. For my main dish, I chose the turkey melt on a croissant. The croissant was flaky, buttery, and absolutely delicious. I'm trying to cut back on carbs, but that plan went out the window because it was just too good. I did save half of the sandwich for the ride home, but there was no way I was leaving that croissant behind! My bestie ordered the chicken salad croissant, and she loved it as well. She said the chicken salad was flavorful, moist, and delicious, and the croissant made it even better. Of course, we couldn't leave without trying dessert. The Blue Owl is famous for their Levee High Apple Pie, but neither of us were really craving apple pie that day. Instead, we went inside to look at the dessert display, and that might have been the hardest decision of the whole visit. Everything looked amazing! I was torn between the chocolate cream pie and the French silk, and ultimately chose the French silk. It was very smooth and rich, and the flavor was delicious. My only complaint was that I personally would have preferred more whipped cream on top, and the crust was a little firmer than I like. It wasn't bad at all--it just wasn't my favorite dessert choice. If I went back, I would probably try something different next time. My bestie chose the gooey butter cheesecake, and that one was a winner. The crust was made from a gooey butter cookie, and it was such a unique and delicious twist. Overall, we had such a great day in Kimmswick. It was the perfect little escape before summer ends and school starts back up. A beautiful walk through a charming town, great conversation with a best friend, and a delicious meal made for a wonderful day. We're already looking forward to coming back!
