Sandy Bottom Boat Tours

Great boat tour company!…read more We booked this Crab Island tour on a whim from a Tik Tok post and it worked out very well. We reserved the 12:30 p.m. time slot for a 4-hour excursion ending around 4:30 p.m. It was about $100 for 2 persons. They request that you arrive 30-45 minutes early and they leave PROMPTLY. If you aren't there by at least 10 minutes before the call time, they'll call you as a courtesy. The crew was super professional, welcoming and accommodating. They are serious about getting you to sign a safety waiver and giving you a full safety protocol presentation before departure. It was a smooth ride to Crab Island despite the water being choppy. It typically takes about 20 minutes to get there and you might get splashed a little bit if you sit towards the front of the boat. We had a blast at Crab Island. The company provides several of inflatable lounge pieces for several riders to relax on in the water. They were stable and spacious. The water is about waist-deep and easy to stand in. The crew was nice and would help you call over a food vendor. They also have a big cooler with ice onboard for you to place the food and beverages you have. You are not allowed to bring on glass containers on the boat. They play music during the entire boat trip and gladly accept requests. Our boat instantly turned into a dance party. There is a bathroom onboard but is quite small. The toilet worked well and the sink faucet didn't flow water. But there's a big bottle of hand sanitizer right outside the bathroom to cleanse your hands after use. The meeting location is on the dock behind the Soundside Waterfront Bar. It is a paid parking lot and it cost us about $17 to park for the 4-hour duration of our boat tour. I'd book with them again. They're trans only priced, safe and festive. Please tip your crew

This was a last-minute decision as my original tour canceled. These guys were so accommodating,…read morefriendly and very generous.. The tour was super fun. We had Floaties, lots of information about what to do and where to go.. I felt completely safe the entire time! We had lots of families on our trip, so it's super safe for kids! I highly recommend using Sandi bottom boat tours instead of any other!

UPDATE: Sheryl with Crab Island Water Taxi went above and beyond to correct everything. I was very…read moreimpressed with her level of professionalism in order to make things right. We will definitely use them in the future. If you're heading to Crab Island, do yourself a favor and find another way to get there. Don't waste your time with this place. One of the most unorganized, unprofessional businesses I've ever encountered. After reading countless bad reviews, we still decided to give it a shot because we thought "how bad could it actually be?". Well, I'm here to tell you that it's pretty awful. We get to the office only to find out that they're not accepting Venmo (they're a cash only operation - which should've been our first red flag) and we needed cash to pay. They will not accept credit cards - even though their website states that they do. My friend had to use the restroom when we got there (we drove in from Pcola) and the woman at the office said she would have to use the one at the Texaco gas station down the street because they don't have one at their office. Weird, but OK, we needed to find an ATM to grab cash, anyways. We get back and they wanted to charge us $20 for parking because they won't allow you to park at their building and make you park at the church nextdoor. Luckily, we chanced it and found free parking at the beach where the taxi picks up. After waiting for 35 mins for the taxi to get there and finally getting to their area of Crab Island, everything was great. The boat captain was super cool and very accommodating. However, when it was time to leave, that's when things got really bad. Their only water taxi had broken down and people had been stranded there for over an hour at that point. The people working there were absolutely no help and incredibly rude. All the people who had paid hundreds of dollars to literally be shuttled .4 of a mile were stranded until their "recovery boats" could make it in from Ft. Walton Beach. There were at least 50 people trying to cram onto a tiny floating dock because everyone was exhausted and done swimming. There were so many young children there and the staff acted like we were bothering them by asking questions about when the boats will be there and how far out they were. My friend, our kids and I ended up hitching a ride with the guys who run the inflatable park and finally made it out of there around 6:20pm. As of 6:30, the recovery boats had still not arrived and all of those poor families were still stranded out there. We even saw boaters using their personal pontoon boats to shuttle as many people as they could, just so some of the parents could get their kids out of the water. Oh, and their recovery boats only carry 6 people at a time!!! For the amount of money people are spending there, the company's owner should 1) have a backup plan when things like this happen 2) at least be willing to rent a large pontoon boat! No one offered any compensation or refund. They don't answer their phone or respond to messages, so unless you're physically able to go back to the office, consider yourself out $100+ for crap service a couple of snacks/sodas, and finding your way back to the beach.

I found out about this company while I was planning a trip to Destin. Crab island is on the list of…read morethings to do on every website when you type in Destin but in order to a rent a boat you have to get a license which requires someone in your group to take a test and also to be sober. No one wanted to be responsible for that so I found this option which allowed us to get to crab island and back without having to rent a boat. When I called them they asked me to pay them through cash app to hold the reservation which in hindsight actually seems pretty sketchy. I was having difficulties getting it to go through so they said we could just pay with cash. Fast forward, we go to the building and pay and then we had to drive and find parking to catch the boat. I went on a Sunday which is the one day they didn't have a shuttle bus going between the locations. Once we got to crab island it was actually really cool. You get tickets for drinks and snacks, they have a boat where you can leave your items, they have a DJ and they have floaties you can use. Everything was great until it was time to go. Bebe was the lady working the checkout. I was right behind a man who checked out before me and she told him and I that our groups would be on the next boat. She wrote down my last name and the number of guests in my group. I guess everyone decided to leave at once because it got very crowded. When the next boat came to bring people back the man who checked in right before me and his group went on and when we went to get on she tells us that we are on the next boat. Okay fine i guess... so then the next boat comes and she lets a huge group on and then calls my group. We had 7 people and after 6 of us got on she says the last person has to wait until the next boat. So we are all very irritated and we get off the boat. I'm confused about why she wrote down the people in my group and still proceeded to not accommodate the entire party. So I told her that we want the entire party to be able to ride together and she told me "I mean it's going to waste a little more gas but if you want to do it that way" ....... the boats fit 16 people so I don't quite understand how us wanting to be together wastes gas but their boats go back and forth every 3 minutes. Anywho, everything was great until check out and I don't think Bebe was able to quite handle when it got busier than normal. Oh and be prepared to see a million "Trump 2020" and "Make America Great Again" flags waving from 80% of the boats in crab island.
