After navigating the one-way streets to find the parking lot (note: enter the lot from Jefferson street), I found the cool house that housed the salon. I walked in and only waited a few moments before Stacey was ready for my appointment. Honestly, I have been wanting to cut and dye my hair for a couple months, but choose just to get it cut for now due to my tight budget. Stacey let me do what I want but also offered feedback/opinion when asked. I decided to cut most of my long hair off into a medium/long angled bob. An hour later, my hair was washed, cut, dried, and styled. It looked great! It wasn't the exact cut in the photo I used as an example (because the photo had different color/hairstyle), but we all know that no one gets the exact cut as a photo. I was still happy with it. And $40 was affordable enough for me for a good haircut (no more GreatClips)! A few days later, I sort of regretted cutting off as much hair as I did (it took a few years to grow it long), but that's just my own fault. Hair grows. So it's all good. I found her through Yelp and the comments of previous posters were the endorsements I needed to make my initial appointment with her. I went in with a sheaf of pictures and after giving me a bottle of water, we got settled in and went through all the different pages. Echo very frankly explained why a cut would or wouldn't work; whether it was because my hair didn't have enough wave or she understood my sensitivity to my jowlyness and the cut simply wouldn't be flattering, the process of the consultation was new and exhilarating. It was an education and I appreciated how actively she listened. She asked me about the best haircut I ever had and what made it great. She even called her next scheduled client and asked if they could start a little later so we weren't rushed. She works methodically, thoughtfully. Every snip or slice of the razor is done with precision. I got the sense that she could see a few steps ahead to what was going to be and understood the subtle cuts to get there. At one point I closed my eyes because I knew we were coming into the homestretch and I always love the surprise of that first look in the mirror when the cut is complete. When I opened my eyes and saw my hair, my fabulous hair, I teared up. I actually put my face in my hands and looked back again to make sure it was me. I looked at Echo standing behind me in the mirror and choked out the words, "you get me". She said it was the best compliment she's gotten. And I have the best haircut I have ever gotten!
