The service and selection is beyond compare. If they don't have it, you really don't need it. It's an amazing place to just even walk through and see the variety of style and materials they have to offer from door knobs to bathroom vanities to door stops. Just incredible. It offers an incredible selection of high quality architectural and decorative cabinet hardware, kitchen or bathroom faucets and hardware to any other remodeling need you might have. My spouse and I were looking for new kitchen hardware and were provided with a large selection to choose from. We loved the personal service, the large selection and will be purchasing all of our hardware here. Attached to Designers Brass is Art's Locksmith which offers key duplication, assistance with securing your property, repairs and installation of mechanical devices. They offer an equally beautiful selection of products and are quick and very kind. This is a family run, quality establishment that offers personalized service by qualified people. It should be NO star!! Absolutely poor customer service! Not only the sales guy Arad was rude, sarcastic, abrupt, and not helpful; their pricing is outrageous. For the same product, their price was 250% higher than what we found in Bed Bath and Beyond. I felt minimized by his poor attitude and arrogant behavior. It felt like he's doing me a Herculean favor answering to my inquiries/questions. It was a very disappointing experience and it would be our last time visiting this store. Wow, plethora of everything you need to install your dream bathroom. We went in there just to see bathroom shower fixtures. We got educated of what is "in" style. Plastic? Chrome? Handheld shower heads with long extenders. A shower head turn into a disco ball with different lights. We got some expert advice. This place can accommodate left handers or right handers or ambidextrous. Next door sells kitchen accessories. Designer indeed. read more

Really sorry to have dragged my father-in-law here to look at new doorknobs and pocket door hardware for a full interior renovation we are completing in the area. The "Big heavyset dude" as he is referred to in other reviews that works or owns the place, represented one of the worst customer service experiences I've endured in a long long time. Great local family business that goes above and beyond. We have been shopping in their store for years. From locks to home improvement items they have many unique items that you can't find anywhere else. Arlene helped us from the start of our recent bathroom project. She helped us with examples, demonstrations, and eventually design. Laying out measurements and little drawings that completed our master plan. We had a few small issues from her suppliers, not her fault, and she solved all the issues. No problem. Funny aside, I came to them some years ago with a unique antique part I did not really want to restore. After looking at the part, I was told to go home, put some elbow grease on it and restore it. New parts are as good as the old parts. Turns out, that as the best advice and it still looks great on my front door. read more

I am glad I did not read the reviews because I had an excellent experience with Arad/Art and cannot recommend this business high enough. I found myself at Designer's Brass after a disastrous experience at Lowe's who would not accept the return of defective hardware that came with my custom patio door. The doors had been installed so I needed security hardware now. Art treated me professionally and compassionately while I selected new hardware and loaned two deadbolts so the doors could be secured until the permanent hardware arrived. My husband is an Architect and was so impressed with the selection of hardware and fixtures they offered. He was like a kid in a candy store! Arad was so personable and helpful with all my husband's questions. I even got to practice my Armenian with him! The other owner Arlene was so sweet as well. The place was such a gem! Walked into this place looking for a 5in backset. I originally asked for a 5in door knob latch thing, because I had no idea what it was called. The guy that helped me was condescending and said " ok first of all its NOT call a latch, its call a 5in BACK SET OK?" Then he proceeded to tell me that it was a specialty item and that I won't be able to find anywhere else, quoted me 30ish dollars. I informed him that I would do more research first and he rolled his eyes and said "I wish you the best of luck." How is this place still in business? I ended up buying my item on Amazon for 15 dollars. read more

Brass is making a come back. If you look at designer kitchen blogs and watch HGTV you'll see that it's not only for your grandma's kitchen anymore. My wife and I were looking to deck out our cabinets with some brass hardware and we were struggling to find a store with good selection. One of our friends suggested that we check out Designer Brass. We ignored the 1 star review because I thought it was odd that some guy reviewed their business on a parking situation and a van cutting him off.... but it really sums up their attitude there. I have to admit that they have a great selection of brass hardware, but was a bit difficult to get help. After working with the guy, we found one that we truly loved and we just got some homework to do before we can place an order. We went home and took all the measurements of the cabinets and came to a conclusion on what we wanted to order. However, given that my wife likes to get "expert" advice to validate her decisions she called and asked for their help on sizes. The lady that worked with us kept pushing us to get straight elevation drawings so that she can tell us how wide do we need to order our handles. I thought that was unnecessary since all you need is a basic rule of thumb like 4" width will fit this wide of a drawer, 6" width would fit this wide of a door, etc. None the less we spent time getting all the dimensions of our cabinetry that she wanted. Once we called her back and provided her with all the information she requested, she basically told us to get 8" wide handles for everything. We thought it was odd and would look way too big on some drawers which are only 15" wide. Plus that's just suggesting the most expensive option. When we tried to push back and said we felt that it was too big for our taste she became very defensive and got very rude. "Seems like you know what you wanted. Don't ask for my expert opinion then if you don't want to listen to it." We tried to be professional and talk to her and she basically said she was rude because she didn't have anything to eat since the day before and she has a doctors appointment the next day. Not sure how that justifies the behavior. My wife got very frustrated and felt that she had no other option but to work with the horrible owner to get the hardware she had her heart set on. I then realized that there's no chance in hell we're going to give money to this awful business and did more research online. I finally found a close by cabinetry place that can order the exact same hardware with a friendly smile. I'd say if you are experiencing the same problem with their service, just go there get the brand name of the hardware that you want and look for other distributors. You'd get a much better friendly experience else where. They are not your only option! read more

Went here a few years ago to get a hard to find matching shower head flex hose. I found it on the internet, but wanted to give a local business a shot to see if the had it. This big guy that most refer to here was very rude, but did look to see what they had, and they had one that was kind of matching, but slightly different tone. I asked if they would match the internet price and the guy was like "are you kidding me, I can't match an internet price" and quoted me something exorbitant. Certainly not the 21st century way of doing business and together with a really shady and rude vibe from the guy there makes this "middleman" vulnerable to online competition. Local businesses need to step up the customer service to compete! read more

But some, like this, are actually worthy of a read. I called Art's Locks/Designers Brass after not being able to get a hold of my "regular" locksmith. I had a key stuck in my trunk lock and couldn't get it out. When I called, even though it was close to their closing time they said to come in. Long story short, they got the key out quickly and were even able to make me a key for my drivers door before they closed. I've never had a key to lock the door!! #classiccarproblems Expedient and polite service at a very affordable price. Thank you to the entire Designers Brass family. They were great! read more

I went in to get ideas during an unexpected remodel following water damage. I had a great conversation about what I liked, what I would need, and what I could afford. I left with some recommendations of good brands and finishes. Over the next week, I ran in and out of Lowes, Home Depot, etc. and looked around on line for other ideas. I went back into the store the next weekend with printouts of the best internet prices. I was delighted to find that they could get the same items at the same prices (with no additional shipping fees). In addition, we found a lighting fixture and a faucet which worked well with my plans--also at prices that were equal to the best on-line deals. Everything showed up at the same time, I know that the store will stand behind everything and I have a source for ongoing questions and suggestions. I feel happy about supporting a local business, getting a good deal AND the one-stop shopping! I'll be back! read more

Worst experience I have ever had.. I was stunned by the owners attitude when I came into ask about purchasing new faucets for my bathroom that I just remodeled. I was asking about a quote and the woman told me she was too busy and couldn't help me and that I would have to come back. I asked if I could wait to talk about quotes when she was finished and she immediately became irate and told me to leave her shop! I asked her if I had done something wrong and she told me she doesn't serve your type of people. I was absolutely disgusted by this and left in tears.. this woman is awful and should no longer be in business. read more

Came here for the finishing touches of a kitchen remodel and was very impressed with the lady's knowledge and willingness to help pick the absolute correct pulls and knobs. They had the worst customer service I've ever seen. I came in with my mentally handicapped son and while I was looking around I heard her laughing in the back, making fun of my child with Down syndrome. She said something about retards and I heard her say Down syndrome quietly not thinking I could hear her, they were flat out talking about my son! I went to Designers Brass after receiving indifferent treatment at Belmont Hardware. The man who helped me, one of the owners, was helpful and cheerful. He also gave me a good price on the cabinet handles I chose because he had them in stock, thus saving him from having to put in a special order. The selection of handles was sufficiently large that I found what I wanted right away. I recommend this store. WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER! I was about 30 seconds away from calling the police because he wouldn't give me my keys back. I wish I could give NEGATIVE 5 stars, because I would. I went here about a year ago to get a set of house keys made for my daughter. Now that she is older and coming home from school on her own she has started using the keys regularly. The key they made would unlock the bottom lock but not the deadbolt. I brought the key back in today to see if they could fix the key or make me a new one. The key was clearly marked with their stamp, so you would know it was made there. When I told the man behind the counter, an older fat man with a short beard, what the issue was he immediately became angry. I told him if it was an issue for him to remake the key he could give me back the keys back, which he refused, and I would get it made elsewhere. He continued to be extremely passive aggressive and was making me out to be the bad guy because the key didn't work. He made the new key in under 30 seconds, I'm sure the excessive cost of a new blank key and labor was such a hardship to his business he will now have to file for bankruptcy (in my best sarcastic voice). I have NEVER EVER been treated so poorly by any business. I'm usually a large supporter of local businesses but NEVER COME HERE, unless you like to be treated like shit. I recently found this store after a Peninsula wide search for designer hardware for the new home. Went inside, was immediately met by someone asking if I needed anything, and when I explained what I needed Arlene was called in and within 60 seconds identified the rare brand that needed to be ordered from Italy. In the past I would have expected this from Wisnom's in San Mateo but they have gone WAAAYYY downhill thus this is my new go to store for hardware, plumbing and locksmith needs. After replacing my front door, I brought the original mortise lock set to Art's Peninsula Locksmith / Designer's Brass. Boy was I surprised at how nice both gentlemen who helped me were. Not only did I find out that the lock was still in good shape, I was shown how to re-install it the correct way. I set up an appointment to have the mortise cut. Hike, the technician, was right on time ( a huge plus in my book). Unfortunately my original door handle was to wide for the new door (not this shops fault I must add). I had to buy a new handle, which I also purchased from them. Hike came back to the house & installed a temporary cylinder so I would be able to lock the door while the stain was drying and he could come back in a few days to install my new door handle etc. Bottom line I would most definitely go back & recommend to my friends and family. read more

What an amazing STORE, STAFF, and SELECTION! I have never been treated so kindly in my life. Not knowing what I was getting into while I was trying to replace my front door lock, I knew I was in over my head. I attempted to go to my local OSH but that was a joke, no one even knew what I was talking about, and one service person said I needed a new door. A friend and my handyman both reccomended me to Designer's Brass. I was ready to purchase a whole new front door lock when in reality a salesperson named Chris explained that my lock could be repaired and refinished to the color of my choice. They fixed the lock on the spot, gave me some temporary pieces to utilize until my components were refinished, and in less than 10 days my lock looked better than some of the choices they had for sale in their showroom. Such a green approach all the while preserving my door too. I look forward to my next project where I can go back and have the opportunity to work with knowledgeable, freindly and extremely professional staff who aren't out to make a buck. So disappointed in the customer service here. I am a native San Bruno resident and been driving by this place for over 40 years. Our house had high end fixtures in it when we purchased it 15 years ago. Was hoping a nice store owner could talk me through the process of replacing our 5 sink fixtures and 3 shower assemblies. I don't think the employee could have cared less about my needs or had any interest in answering my questions. I almost asked if I could speak to someone who was interested in helping me but I didn't have the nerve. I left disappointed and without the 8 items I need. He was barely willing to look up From his computer to even greet me when I walked in nor when I began telling him my situation. So displeased. I did give 2 stars because they seemed to have many options in fixtures, but coming from a woman who knows little about bathroom fixtures, I needed some guidance but sadly did not receive any. read more
