This place is hit or miss in terms of service...literally you can get great service one time and then be completely ignored in another visit. So I am being kind with the 3 star review because the lady that greeted me on my first visit was so incredibly friendly and warm. She offered up lots of services from Design Manitoba and was helpful with her ideas. The next visit, we were completely ignored. I mean I like having my space to look around and not have someone hovering around me but a friendly hello would be nice especially when we passed by several staff who weren't that busy. In terms of selection, there are some interesting pieces here and there so it's a good place to look but price wise, it's up there. They do have renovation sales and warehouse sales with floor model items with really good mark downs. So that might be the time to go there as you can end up with a good find at a good price. read more

My wife and I received extremely rude service when picking up our items at their warehouse. We had booked an appointment to pick up our item at a specific time and when we arrived we were told it was not ready and the employees were unpacking a truck and that we would just have to wait, it was still on a pallet and not even unboxed or assembled as promised. The worst part was the extreme rudeness to my wife and total lack of concern that they were letting a customer down. I am shocked that this company will employ someone with absolutely zero customer service skills. When we discussed this the owner about it he took out "what do you expect me to do attitude?" (Yes, those were the exact words ) which was also extremely disappointing. We will not be shopping here again. read more

Well, that was weird... After hearing for so many years about the quality and selection of Design Manitoba, I finally had a chance to go and have a look at the store with a purchase in mind. My companion and I were interviewed (?) accosted (?) interrogated (?) greeted (?!) immediately inside the door by a sales person whose face indicated, perhaps that either a) her pain medication hadn't kicked in yet, b) she was not that keen on customers coming into the store so close to closing time (an hour before it) or c) she was very new at and entirely unsuited to commission sales. She made us feel so uncomfortable after this first encounter that we almost left the store immediately, but the store had been suggested by a trustworthy friend with a great design eye, so I wanted to at least have a look. The store was over-crowded and hard to maneuver, but our "hostess" managed to follow us at a constant 12 foot distance, arms folded, face pinched, silently, in the most unsettling way, hovering, seemingly to make sure we didn't smuggle out a sectional under our pashminas. The other sales person on the floor was taking the opposite tack with the other 2 women in the store, that is to say, was on them like a bad smell, notebook in hand, talking away inanely as they were trying to browse the furniture. My companion and I browsed the whole store for about 15 minutes, during which time, the 2 sales people with their opposite but equally effective methods, managed to clear 4 groups of customers out of the store in short order, including one who mentioned that she had been in the store many times before. Their sales approaches both seemed to lean towards the "maybe keep your day job" end of the spectrum. As someone whose spouse earns a very handsome income from commission sales, I am very familiar with the subtleties of the art. I also engage with many commission sales people in my own line of work, on a daily basis. The sales people I encountered on Sat Nov 17 late in the day at the Design Manitoba store are apparently bereft of any of those subtleties which would positively increase their bottom lines. It's no wonder to me, now, that almost EVERYTHING in the store was on sale an an INCREDIBLE markdown. Black Friday Sale? I don't think so. Scraping for business after years of taking their customers for granted? Mmmm....maybe. Despite the fantastic prices, it's unlikely I will set foot in the store again. Shame, really. Over ten years ago I was a fan of this store, and got some items here. However every stop over the last 4 or so years years as resulted in me wondering what did I see in the place. I admit they have some neat items but the price is to out there. They sometimes have warehouse sales which I have gone to hoping to find something, but in four plus years of dropping by have not found the item I was looking for or it was at a price that was out of line. I have given up on this store about Sept 2010, between the price, selection, and attitude of the workers I have chosen to go else where. read more

We have made multiple purchases at Design Manitoba and have always been very pleased with the service. Designer Helen is lovely and helpful. Our product arrived sooner than promised and delivery was promptly arranged. We found the delivery people very accommodating and even helped us move our old sectional to another room in our home when they delivered the new one. We have had great service from the repair department on items purchased from Design Manitoba many years ago. We will keep shopping here! read more

I ordered a sectional back in August, 2010. It is the end of January, 2011 and I'm still getting the run around. I was getting nowhere talking to the customer service staff who were extremely unhelpful and unprofessional. I contacted the Better Business Bureau to help mediate. Design Manitoba refused to respond to the BBB. Went to their most recent sale, was told while completing a purchase that all sales are final and found the product was sub-standard when I got it home. The veneer damaged on the edge and feet of my made in China product. I called and asked if I could look, exchange for another and was told, as a customer courtesy, they would allow me to do so for a 25% restocking fee. Apparently Design Manitoba does not value return business or customer satisfaction. read more

Well, no surprises! A SALE doesn't mean a SALE anymore with this store. You'll never find your way around for a bargain price even if listed "marked down 70%" the stoical greedy Owner jacked up and inflated the sale prices at the warehouse about 7 years ago and for myself as a doctor, I can't even afford items at this place anymore, and facing up to those scary sales people, just be rude back to them. I think it's a tense workplace because the Owner is very strict with the "set prices!" If your dealing with the Owner's brother, he says, immediately, cutting into your sentence as you speak, "No, these are marked below price!" Those words, "What a fantastic opportunity" is long gone!! In the past, I purchased a high vertebral black fabric recliner at the warehouse, and I told the old salesman supposely it is the brother of the Owner, immediately after my purchase, I noticed the arms were very loosy fit! Not strong enough to push back in reclining position, both arms were held by a SINGLE SWREW and from observing underneath was a coffe stain and the only "ONE" swrew nut wooden frame was in peril shape. Immediately, I address this defect and recieved a a contemptible reply: "We can fix it for you at additional cost of $100.00. . The reclining black chair was on sale for $250.00 seven years ago, in the end it went to Brady's Landfill. My lawyer friend had problems too with quality, and the exact same sofa was in that warehouse forever, it very soft, you feel the 'spring coils' or something with seating cushions were not properly made.. We believe the DESIGN MANITOBA are emblezzling and/or frauding the public. We found several product lines of acrylic paintings, photographic premium art print, coffee tables, and sectionals at other locations (even out the province, way cheaper). In the old days, about 10 years ago, the warehouse had good quality prices. It has become the BAD, and UGLY. I hope they aren't around much longer, ripping customer's hard money - LAURA SECORD priced themselves out-of-business with their high end chocolates. There was two nice guys, Mike (he's gone) was wonderful on my first parchase at the warehouse on sandblasted coffee perfect size, he put special silver legs, and precio it to go at $70.00. I will avoid this store forever now. The sales people are like the butlers of old English mansions, aloof and distant, and condescending to interlopers (read customers) to their store. Years ago we bought two fairly pricy items, stylish and modern for sure. The legs on one chair were twisting in their sockets and we called. A person came to our house and determined that two of the legs had stripped channels to screw into. He did what he could to secure the legs but could not fix or return the piece. Several years later the recliner legs broke through the acrylic pads keeping metal plugs on the legs from contacting the floor. Without these pads the metal actually grooved our hardwood everytime the chair was moved. We tried to affix commercially available pads but we could not find ones to fit. They recommended an upholstery place that told us they could do and supply nothing although DM had told us they dealt with them to fix such things. Result... we finally gave the chair to a charity who most likely took this expensive and otherwise fine piece of furniture to the landfill. We will not stop at this store again. There are other better places for our business. read more

Design Manitoba has gone way downhill in quality, their pieces do not reflect anything unique or beautiful now, just high price tags. The manager or whoever was working when we went in was cold almost to a point of being rude and very unhelpful. I would not suggest people going there. I have had the worst experience ever with this store. I spent a fortune and have had- and still have- nothing but regret and hassle. I would love to speak to the owner of the store but the employees will not exactly reveal how to get in touch. I bought a piece which was delivered to my home Sept. 1 2010 in horrible condition. The delivery people took photos of the flaws which a month later I found out they never submitted to anyone. I had to take my own photos and follow their process. I had several discussions and e-mails with employees who were unprofessional and unwilling to do much. It is now January 3rd and I still have not received the piece of furniture they insisted in NOVEMBER I would have sent to me in 2 weeks. I will never shop there again and I wish I could get my money back. I gave them 1 star only because while I think the store is not run well, the customer service is awful and my experience was ridiculous, there are some nice pieces of furniture there.
