This is a great rv resort outside of the Tucson area. Close to hiking trails, beautiful views and sunsets. Plenty of beautiful birds and wildlife within the area. We enjoyed our time so much we are going back! Many rvers from all over the continent! read more

Just got back from touring a bunch of parks in Tucson because we're planning a long snowbird stay next winter. Walked Desert Trails for a couple of hours with my wife and we both looked at each other and said "yep, this is the one."Everyone here in town still calls it "the old water park." If you grew up in Tucson you probably have pictures somewhere of you flying down the Cannonball or Blue Twister slides back when it was Justin's/Wyatt's Water World. Pericles Wyatt turned the place into an RV park in 2007 and it became legendary for concerts and good times. New owners have had it the last few years and you can tell they're putting real money in, fresh paint, everything brought up to code, and the staff actually seems to care.We saw the sites (plenty big enough for our 45-footer), checked out the showers and laundry (spotless), peeked at the heated pool and hot tub, and then walked out the back gate straight onto the hiking trails in Tucson Mountain Park. Saguaro West and the Desert Museum are basically right there. Didn't even need to unhook to do anything.Talked to a dozen residents while we were wandering around and every single one said the same thing: friendliest crowd in Tucson and the upgrades have made a huge difference. Rates look totally fair for what you get.We're already booked for January through March. If you want trails, sunsets, and a park that actually feels special, this is it. We are at the Diamond J RV park that is right next to this one. The noise coming from this park is ridiculous. In the morning there are dogs that bark at everything. Right now there is music thumping so loud that I can hear it in my RV with earbuds in. Thanksgiving weekend one RV decided to have an outdoor concert in their campsite with various instruments. I don't like having to shut my windows when the weather is nice. I called and asked if they could do something about the music that is thumping now. Guess no one cares enough to do anything about it. Beware if you want to stay at this park. It's probably even noisier once you are trapped inside Desert Trails. read more

stayed here for five months in the 22 to 23 season excellent park with loads of activities and upgrades. The new owners have did a great job. Can't wait to come back next season. The Wi-Fi works perfect the amenities are great as well as the food trucks the hiking, the bands, the social events. It's a great experience you won't regret it. read more

I am kind of surprised (and suspicious) of all of the glowing reviews Desert Trails has received. I found this park to be mediocre at best. The park is small and rvs are sort of strewn everywhere. Some lots are not level. Parking and spaces are tight. There is no cable tv so bring your dish. The park is a long way from anything commercial and so you'll drive about 10 miles. At 540 and 630 dollars a month (there is a 90 dollar surcharge from 30 amp to 50 amp service which is pretty steep) I thought the park was overpriced. I paid 210 for a week. There are lots of scheduled activities and hiking nearby. Front desk people were helpful but generally not too friendly. Showers were hot and reasonably clean. All in all...it's not bad but it's certainly not as good as the reviews on this page. I stayed here a week and probably won't return. read more

Buyer beware. You have to reserve via internet and all sites listed are not available. We reserved a site via internet for a Saturday evening. Upon arrival no site with that number could be found. We had paid a two night minimum fee at point of internet reservation We parked beside swimming pool and spent night with no electricity. First thing Sunday morning (8:30 am) we called emergency office number to sort out missing campsite. Owner acknowledged that site number doesn't exist but was EXTREMELY rude about disturbing her on her day off. She assigned us another site and refused to refund any of previous nights fee. No refund would of been ok if she wasn't so nasty about us requesting assistance to find a site to use. She is selling a service of camp sites, right? Not sure what she expected us to do as we paid for two nights with electric. We needed another night and wanted what we paid for. Will not come back. She was way more concerned with being bothered than spending 10 minutes assisting us. read more

Online ratings are often the reflection of how well a business or product meets a person's expectations. On that count, Desert Trails gets five stars. We expected a funky, older park with a strong sense of community and absolutely got it. Our experience was bolstered by being fortunate to get a spot in C-loop, a cul de sac at the back of the park with big sites that back up to the desert. The park offered top-flight musical entertainment three times during our two-week stay, outstanding food trucks twice a week, and a fun and informative community meeting each Monday. Our stay was absolutely outstanding! The reasons I'm not giving Desert Trails five stars: the location is a little remote from town and various services; the infrastructure is a bit old and hodge-podge; many of the sites are packed in pretty tight. So, depending on your RV park expectations, Desert Trails may be for you. We absolutely plan to return if we go back to Tucson! read more

We stayed in V6, where the stench of sewer was forever present. There were some nice spots in the park, just not that one.

We made a reservation to stay here with full hookups and pull through 8 months ago so we could visit Saguaro National Parks. When we arrived, our site was too small, not pull through and so crowded we couldn't fit our smallish rig in the back in spot. They were rude and unhelpful. They knew we wanted a pull through bigger site but cut the pull thrus in half to make more money. We went next door last minute and paid half of the price at Desert Trails for a very nice site. Do not recommend this park at all. read more

I cannot say enough nice things about this park. As a newbie RV'r I wanted to do a trial run and chose this park near the Tucson mountains. Previously Justin's Water World with remnants of the old park but nicely revised to accommodate all shapes and sizes of RV's. I emailed a reservation request for a pull thru as I am a novice with a 29' coach. I was graciously assured of the accommodation and pleased to find the nightly price of $32 was all inclusive of tax and all hookups. Free ice and a dog park were within walking distance and friendly neighbors everywhere. read more

This used to be our favorite park and this would have been our 12th winter! But since being sold it has gone completely downhill. No upgrades, no WiFi unless you sit in the rec hall, no activities or entertainment unless organized by people staying there. The observation area was torn out and was supposed to be replaced. It is still a dirt hill with wires and broken glass and huge ravines from the rains. Owners are not honoring signed contracts and are increasing rent for the 2nd time $100/month. Lots of water leaks which means when they fix them (if they fix them) the whole parks water is shut down. They have trimmed so much brush, trees etc that the dry storage area is heaped and now home to more pack rats and snakes. If you go to their website notice all the good reviews are years old! And the pics and what they say they offer for activities is from the previous owner. The new owners offer nothing. Activities and music are organized by guests staying there. The park does not look like those pics. read more

We have been wintering at Desert Trails for eight years, and after full-timing this summer, we are definitely looking forward to getting back. DT is a funky, re-purposed old water park and has so much personality, compared to bland, cookie-cutter places. The owners, Pericles and Andrea, are wonderful and know every single resident by name. The regulars are friendly, fun, and not the least bit cliquey. When new people show up, they are immediately part of this warm, welcoming community. Lots of activities and good entertainment, twice a week, is pass-the-hat. We traveled for six years, never finding a place we wanted to settle into---until Desert Trails! A really nice park. This one has just about everything you could want in an RV Park. The staff and the campers were all very nice and personable. The park is very pet friendly, with plenty of spaces to exercise your pets. The park backs up to a state and National park area, which is filled with hiking and Mountain Bike riding trails. It is in a big city, but totally secluded. read more

Favorite park so far!!! It is truly a special place with a vibe that is so unique. Maybe that's because this park was built among the ruins of a water park from long ago? Or maybe it's because the setting is so diverse with twists and turns and charming cactus gardens scattered throughout? Or possibly because the park borders the magnificent Tucson Mountain Park filled with ancient Saguaro. For every guest there will be a reason why they return year after year. For me the draw has been the energy and passion the owner and his staff put into this park. It becomes obvious within minutes of arrival that you have not landed at a big corporate chain. You are given stacks of local maps and brochures with an orientation to maximize your Tucson experience. You'll learn about some great restaurants, bike trails, festivals, museums, etc. And it doesn't stop there. Every Monday morning the owner presents an info session of the upcoming week's highlights both in the park and in Tucson. He even brings doughnuts for the occasion. I'll wrap this review up while seriously only scratching the surface. I could go on for days but I'll save some surprises for you to discover. I will leave you with my top 2 reasons for staying here: Outstanding live music 2 to 3 times a week. Food trucks on Wed and Sundays. I mean who does that?!?! Desert Trails. read more

Wow! What a great RV Park! Best staff I have ever confronted in the state. Was a late arrival and was set up in a pretty tight space with a slide out. Woke up the next morning and asked the lady at the desk if they had something with a little more elbow space. They were very accommodating and found us a great spot to move into. It's a pain to move after setting up, but it was so worth it we wound up extending our stay! Great activities all week long, not to mention great rates! I will definitely be back! read more
