Usually this place is great, apart from a few frustrating policy issues. I tan when I get off work, so i often slip in during crunch time ( last ten minutes ) ( this has NEVER been a problem as I tan for about SEVEN MINUTES ) Except for tonight, apparently Little Miss Thang (blonde with the heavy eyebrows!) wanted to go home early so bad, she thought I wouldn't notice if she closed early. Unfortunately, I did. I know the time was 8:58 at the absolute latest as I walked through the open door. That is absolutely against the rules, it RUINED my night, and I guarantee she knows better than that. Closing time is NOT at the employee's discretion. Wow!!... Now that's what I call Amazing Customer Service!!... The girl working here tonight, "Cortney Allen" really went above and beyond to accommodate me. She was so pleasant and very professional. She answered all my questions about each service, and even helped me pick out a lotion that was designed specifically for the three services I used today. I used three (3) different services tonight... - Red-light Bed, - Platinum Tanning Bed, & - Spray Tan This was the first time I've used three of my "All Inclusive Tanning Package" in one visit & it was such a pleasure, thanks to Cortney. I would highly recommend this tanning salon to everyone I know, or whom ever is looking for a tanning salon. Thank you so much for such a pleasant experience Desert Sun. I will definitely be back many times since I'm a year-round tanner. Terrible experience. Stopped by to purchase a spray tan package and the girl at the Hoyt Road location in Federal Way wouldn't allow me to tan because she thought I was under an influence. Not true, I had only gotten a couple hours sleep the previous night and driven back from Seattle that morning. I was exhausted, not wasted. Still, I didn't care to argue and said I would come back later. Decided to go to the other Federal Way location as it was more in my direction. The boy at that location could not have been more insulting. First he said that I had been "kicked out" of the other store, which I told him was not accurate. He then said he "smelled drugs" on me and there was an odor after I came in! He wasn't even in the lobby when I came in! All this assumed because the first girl had put a note on the account. So I asked if I seemed like I was on drugs and he said no, so I wanted to get a package. Then he told me my account had been "flagged" and I couldn't tan at all that day. The first girl had told me that I could go right over to the other location, so she lied. I needed this for a commercial shoot I was doing the next morning. So I advised that I would take my business elsewhere and I did. Got a package from Seattle Sun, and they were very very helpful and nice and customer service oriented. Had to drive to Kent for the service but worth it to never go into a Desert Sun again. FYI, I am 62 and neither drink nor do drugs. read more

She also up sold me on tans when I found out from another associate when I went in the following week that not only did I still have tans on my account , I also has a massive credit. And told me the employees claim I never wanted to cancel. Bottom line - I spent nearly $300 for six tanning sessions in six weeks. RIPPED OFF! So I moved to the area almost 2 years ago and for the most part have had really any issues with this place. I bought some lotion from them that I thought didn't have a scent and a few months later I bought another one cause the first one didn't seem to be working. So after discussion with one of the staff I was told the product they sold me was spoiled and because I had brought a different product that they couldn't do anything about it. I was very unhappy with the service here, management is rude and unhelpful, the beds aren't cleaned well, they gave me ringworm (GROSS!!) The prices are outrageous, they promote sales and discounts that they don't actually honor. plus I was in to purchase a single month and was told that at the start of the new year my month would end and I would have to go in and pay for January if I wanted to continue. I decided not to, but now I found out they have been billing me this whole time, when I asked about a refund or possibly to credit my account they very rudely said it was my fault for not putting my account on hold and I would just have to eat the cost. now I do not mind paying for services I have used, but this is theft... I'm now out roughly 200.00 if your thinking about joining up, I highly recommend you find somewhere else. read more

Standard tanning place - I used the spray tan option and it was quick and easy. They did only have one person working (which isn't too unusual) but it meant a wait for people. There was no one when I came in, then a line of 3 by the time I was done. read more

So I read the reviews below and the one thing they have in common is money. They got charged when they thought they cancelled blah blah blah. Duh you have to go in and personally cancel otherwise anyone can call in with your name and cancel that shit without you knowing. Anywho, I love this location! Shay, Jordan and Nicole are so sweet! Nicole has a tough cookie side to her but she's been there for like a decade and is really sweet. I've Been tanning here since January and have had great experiences every time. I got a spray tan in February and one of the gals recommended bronzers to be added so I did and HUGE mistake.. I was orange in the sunlight and when I told them I was unhappy about that they didn't hesitate to give me another spray tan on my account. Also, I'm cheap AF and they always give me a deal whether it's a discount on lotion or buy a lotion at retail and get a free sunless when ever I ask. Yeah the product is overpriced but these products are not sold direct to the consumer from the manufacturer so yes there is going to be a markup and I'm fine with that. The beds are always clean when I go in which is weekdays around 6pm oh and I also have the gold membership so I can't speak for the lower level beds. All in all this is my FAVORITE location. read more

I was a member at the Lakeland Hill's Desert Sun. The gal that works there in the morning was VERY RUDE TO ME. I tried in vain to get in touch with corporate and left messages about how I was treated and no one EVER got back to me. Not all the Salons are bad tho. The one in S. Auburn is good and if you go in to Lakeland after the morning gal is gone, the staff is great. read more

So I bought a Groupon and thought it was for the tanning salon on pacific highway next to xfinity in Federal Way. I pulled up and looked at the sign and said crap! So I decided well I'm here let's go in. So I explain my situation to Krissy ( I hope I spelled that right) and told her I had X amount of money and I did the Groupon for the other company. She looked at her computer and a couple of minutes later she had a package that fit perfectly for me! She was so sweet asked if I needed help with the bed and she showed me to the room and explained the process to me. The girls that work here are always friendly so i will give them that. But they're always just sitting around talking to eachother or on the phone, not really working. Anyways one day i came in because my flex month was almost up and the girl working talked me into buying a membership, she wasn't too pushy which i appreciated. It was near the end of the month when i signed up so i had to pay for the first month ($60 or whatever it is for a gold membership) and then she said the next month would be pro-rated and would only be around $6. So when it came time to be charged for my 2nd (this) month, i went to update my card on file and the girl told me it would be $60 for this month of tanning. I told her that the girl who initially signed me up said this month would only be $6 because it was pro rated. She was very snobby, said there's nothing she can do about it now and charged me the $60 . Her attitude really annoyed me because that's not how you treat customers, & how did it go from being charged $6 to $60? I would like to talk to a manager but there never seems to be one working! I'm cancelling my membership tomorrow and will not be returning to Desert sun after this. read more

The people were nice, but that's about the best part of my experience. I bought the Groupon for the Formostar body wrap (3 treatments), and before purchasing 6 additional treatments (they are always trying to sell you more, more, more) I asked for their input (overall spent over $300 - bought for my husband as well). I should have known they were all programmed to say it works great... I should have listened to the warning bells... I didn't. I bought 9 treatments overall and 6 for my husband, after asking the employees what kind of results they and their clients were seeing. All experiences were positive for losing weight and inches except 1 person who was super skinny and using it for relaxing vs weight or inch reduction. Everyone seemed to be seeing results after 3-5 visits. However, the more treatments I had, the success stories seemed to change to 8 or 9 treatments... I am not excessively overweight (I could lose 10-15 lbs) and I don't eat a lot of junk or fast food, a little, but I did not change my habits when I decided to use Formostar. The Formostar is supposed to burn up to 1400 calories, as if running a marathon... You're supposed to be consistent and use every 2-3 days (I did), and you're supposed to drink lots of water (I drink about 8-12 cups per day) to see the best results. I didn't lose any weight or inches at all after 10 treatments and neither did my husband, after 5 (and he could lose up to 20-30 lbs). I talked with owner, who tried to sell me more sessions after I had no results after 8 treatments. AND, I even bought the special lotion to help expedite the loss.... Nothing. The salon is willing to keep pushing and selling but when they all knew I saw no results and spent a bunch of money for no results, nothing. No offers for additional services at no charge, no refunds offered, nothing. I wouldn't expect that from the employees necessarily, except maybe for them to check and see what they could do... but I did expect the owner to step up. She did not. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! read more

I dont understand the negative reviews about this salon. It has been beyond amazing. I have tanned for over 20 years and this salon by far has been the best in all aspects. The services they offer are fabulous, they are very accomodating, and extremely friendly. Maybe they have new staffsince I started there in August and since the negative reviews? I am unsure but they have been AWESOME! I would not hesitate to refer and I am very picky about service. Yes they will try to upsell stuffn but to be honest its good stuff that I never knew about so if they had not told me I would have missed out on things like red light therapy, body wraps, etc. All of these items have enhanced my experience there by ten fold so I am not going to complain. I think we just geta negative impression about selling so we dont like to hear it. I went in there to tan yesterday for the first time at this location. What happened was unacceptable. When I walked in both girls were on their phones giggling and did not address me. There were piles of laundry on the floor and they did not even look up. After I addressed them first, both girls glanced up from whatever video they were watching and told me they were "having a great time". After telling me that she could not switch my card at this location, which is understandable, she then told me that I would have to call on my own time if I wanted it figured out... If you want my money YOU will call and YOU will figure it out. After this I looked the other way and have a seat and still decided to tan, My fiancé who was sent into the spray tan bed, has to come back out, fully RE dressed because the room was not clean, there was no towel or hairnet. At this point I do not know where the other girl is, probably cleaning my tanning bed, however the first girl that helped us who was a huge problem, is now screaming the other girls name throughout the salon and frantically looking around Blaming the other girl. Again she's walking around hysterically screaming this girls name, while both of us are standing at the front wondering what the hell is going on. The blonde girl then hands my fiancé a towel and a hairnet and goes "it's ready"... did not walk back to the room,did not clean it, did not apologize. I do not Appreciate tanning in dirty beds with dirty carpets, nor do I appreciate wasting my time because you want to watch videos on your cell phone. Seeing as I have tanned at the other locations this owner also operates, this is all unexpectable and not what I am used to. I'm chalking up this experience as maybe those two girls should not be scheduled to work together anymore. Horrible experience, horrible customer service. If I saw the same blonde girl with the really long, fake extensions I would walk right back out. Not worth my time to even deal with her, or hear her voice. I got enough of it while she ran around screaming her coworkers name, Pointing fingers looking unprofessional to all her customers rather than take responsibility for the situation. you're working right now,this is your salon... clean it up. Side note: my fiancé went in another time earlier before, by herself, and assured me the young lady who helped her that time was great and did not have any complaints. This is obviously a case of employees who cannot be trusted with cleaning or customer care and should be retrained and reality checked. read more

I cannot tell you how much I dislike this salon after my negative experiences here. I was so excited to have a salon built so close to my house but when I came in to get information I was greatly let down. Every girl that works here basically is extremely snobby and has that "I think I am better then you attitude" I have never been treated so rudely in my life. They are extremely pushy and will tell you anything to sell you tans. They don't try to work with you to find the package that works best for your needs they work on commision so they only want to sell you on the extremely expensive beds. Not worth it. I felt uncomfortable the few times I came that I didn't even use all my tans. Debbie was my least favorite and I caught her rolling her eyes and talking about clients as soon as they walked away. Some older lady (30's looks like a smoker) works here who i believe is a manager. Me and my gf tried to use our tans from the other federal way location which we have used here multiple times. The lady refused to let me use my membership or tans from the other location and tried to make us buy a tanning package which we already both had! I like this salon alot the staff is friendly mostly when you come in and there trying to sell you something on the way out there not so friendly when you didn't buy something but it really depends on whose working. I love the beds here. The only thing that really bothers me is no matter how much money i have on my account EVERY time I come in there constantly pressuring me to buy something and even after I say no they don't stop. WORST "customer" Service I have ever had by Jessica. Not only did she want to argue with me, but told me it was, "her word against mine", really? I'm in Customer Relations and have never told a customer that, and do have the ability to help my customers, obviously something Desert Sun does not have. I've been with the company since 2005, but for $60 buck they gave me the finger...Better Business Bureau will be hearing about this place, told I have to come in and cancel. No where one your website does it say this needs to be done, only to cancel from original place of purchase. Good thing I'm not in the hospital or moved out of state.. They have me over a barrel! This place is horrible, again she told she was the only one that worked 12/1 when I cancelled so she "knows" it wasn't her..really you worked a 14 hour day, maybe I should let BBB know this as well, and you won't give me corporate number,because there's no one above you, find that VERY hard to believe...you'll be hearing from me soon Desert Scum..
