First of all, the staff is very friendly. The initial examination involved both standard chiropractic tests and X-rays. In addition to standard adjustments, they have exercises they recommend to strengthen the core and any other muscles to help you be comfortable. They will make adjustments to their plan as needed. I moved to Arizona around 6 years ago and could not find a chiropractor I trusted and believed in like the one I had back in Orange County, California. That finally changed when I had a consultation with Dr. Johnston and his support staff. He was able to take X-Rays and put a plan together with some exercises to get me on the right path. His methods and beliefs in chiropractic treatment were right there with mine, unlike some other ones I had previously come across out here in Arizona. Pricing is not bad for what I had expected going in, they ask you if you would be willing to refer family or friends that might need or want assistance. Price is usually too high for those that do not have insurance or the in-network insurances, but will still ask for your insurance information and try to bill them accordingly. At 73 yrs of age, who has lived with constant chronic low back pain, taking OTC meds, being awakened from pain nightly, I had accepted this would be my life until the end. However, through recommendation of the cox table and the chiropractors there, I thought I would give it try. So, I have waited a while to write this until I was getting back to performing my normal daily activities. I served 6 years in the Army and sustained a few injuries not related to my back, so I thought it was more like a ticking time bomb. About 5 months ago I felt a weird pain in my back, which rapidly turned into full muscle spasms which ultimately saw me bedridden. The VA doctors literally told me "you are 24 and you are fine" and told me to drink water and drive on. The first chiropractor I tried didn't have the resources or expertise to help me and pretty much stopped letting me schedule with him while I literally couldn't get out of bed, nightmare situation!! So, I did some research and contacted Desert Springs Chiropractic Center and that next morning I was in doing x-rays and a full assessment of my situation. When I first went in, I was in the worst pain of my life, had no idea what was wrong with me and was truly scared. When I first spoke with Dr. Johnston, he was very thorough and explained to me exactly why I was feeling this way and what we needed to do to correct it. This brought me major peace of mind and that day we started the rehab process. I had several flare-ups but every time I called, they got me in within hours. This was an extremely emotional situation coming from someone who is used to working out 5 days a week and being extremely active to barely being able to take a full breath. The team here understands this and helped me so much to get to the point I am today. Dr. Johnston also wrote several letters for me to the VA in order to get an MRI of my back and gave me some really good advice on how to handle these doctors. Needless to say, I got an MRI and we were able to rule out some more serious problems. I write this because this really shows how dedicated Dr. Johnston is to his patients and how he will go out of his way to make sure his patients get the absolute best care possible. I originally came to Desert Spring Chiropractic for an auto accident. I was suffering headaches and arm pain after being rear ended. Upon my initial visit I was extremely impressed by the thoroughness of the exam and X-rays. It's rare to have a chiropractic office actually review the X-rays with you - I have been to plenty who just get you on the table and start working. How would they even know where to work? I appreciate them taking the time to actually figure out what was going on, the best course of action and to ensure I didn't need help outside chiropractic. Dr. Johnson and his staff were so helpful throughout the process. They came up with an actual plan to get me better. Dr. Johnston did a combination of chiropractic, physical therapy and taping to optimize results. When they did my X-rays they found some areas of stress that were there probably from early childhood sports injuries. So what I like best is not only did they help me recover from the accident but they also came up with additional care to help me avoid arthritis and major degeneration in the future. I continue to go and am extremely grateful I found them. They have been nothing but wonderful And thrilled my results thus far. On Friday I made an appointment after seeing their flip sign on Arizona Avenue for introductory massages for $25 - I made two separate appointments at the same time. While on the phone I thought it was a little unorthodox that the receptionist didn't ask if she could put me on hold for a moment, she just clicked over and said "hold while I help someone else." I thought it was a little rude, but I just rolled with it. When she came back on the phone she said the office only does massages on Tuesday, all day, and Saturday without being ask about scheduling (it was like she had a script she wanted to get out and that I was wasting her time by calling). I made the appointment for Tuesday - the only time they had available was in the middle of the day - but because the office is relatively close to my house, I thought it really wouldn't present a problem. Tuesday came and a half hour before the massage was scheduled, one of the masseurs called to say she had to cancel... a half hour before the massage. She gave the number of the other masseuse to call, as I had wanted someone else to come along with me, and with one appointment cancelled, we needed to cancel the other. When I called the other masseuse (the one who'd not cancelled), she was a little surprised that the other had cancelled so abruptly on us (and apparently she didn't even know the other wasn't able to work). I'm so disappointed with the service and the rude phone skills. I work in real estate and have the chance to recommend services to those who need them - I can guarantee now, especially with so many offices offering similar massage service, I will NOT be referring business here! read more
