Besides the personal service and consulting you are able to find rare and special stuff at this shop. a whole bar of hummus (original, chilli, wasabi... etc) is standing next to a press where you can get fresh pressed sugar cane juice - i never thought to be able to find that in the middle of Vienna!! another discovery of my visit today were fresh green coconuts from jamaica. last time i saw such a thing was at a beach in brazil. Today I had a fresh pressed Titan Juicy (i think i remember right) with figs, oranges and limes, deliciouse. In winter they also do have stuff hard to find in normal supermarkets, its worth to stop by there, when you need something for a recipe. Prizes are absolutely good and as my experience tells me, there is always someone standing in line already :) thats a good sign, but a little annoying when you are in a hurry - but in order to keep that store open, there must be good business. It seemed like any other local street market, although definitely not as vibrant or beautiful as Farmer's Markets you'd find in Italy or the US. It might have been a decent place if I was looking to buy raw fish/meat, veggies and fruit with my non-existent German skills. The non-food products were all quite practical...utilitarian (mostly black) shoes, pants, bags that no tourist would be interested in buying. There was nothing really interesting about this market except for maybe the €2 kebabs and other middle eastern food. It's definitely not worth the 30 min schlep out there from the main city unless you want to see another side of the "real" Vienna.

The husband and I enjoyed this market far better than the Naschmarkt (which was expensive and…read morelacked variety). I felt like the Brunnenmarkt was more for the locals, things were inexpensive and there were a wide variety of items for sale at the stalls. They have amazing cheese stalls with tons of different types of cheese. They have a vast variety of fruits and veg. If you want to get a taste for the real Wien, I would highly recommend this market. PS The husband and I had the most awkward 10 minute conversation with a vendor in English/German/Spanish/Greek mish mosh trying to overcome our language barriers (ha), but it felt like the most genuine interaction we had in Austria.
