Well, that was certainly the case with this station. It is pretty fancy, and pretty new as well, but I can't really claim that it is a favourite.

It's confusing to write about Canary Wharf Station now as it's really three stations serving three…read moreseperate lines - the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines, and the DLR (there is a distinction between all three of these some Londoners will insist on making that is technically correct but really just serves to confuse the hell out of non locals) - but all together it's a sprawling set of linked transportation and shopping options unrivaled in London. What Canary Wharf lacks in soul it makes up for in convenience and choice. The whole design is focused around servicing the clinetel of the region, namely white collar business folks who live and work in the area. History was bombed and made obsolete around here so you're not going to find any remenants of the past save the reappropriated docks. But it is quite modern, clean, and bold in its design and feels quite different than anywhere else you'll visit in London. The older Jubille and DLR areas are by far the most useful as they are situated in the middle of a sprawling mall with a variety of good options; you'll find everything from standard convienience like Boots and M&S to more novel offers like the wonderful Tian Tian Market (dedicated to everything East and Southeast Asian cusine) and a local branch of Malin & Goetz. A smaller selection of mostly food options are available at the Elizabeth Line area. Nothing is necessarily architectuarally interesting at any of the areas of the stations per say although they're big, clean, modern and safe. I suppose the Elizabeth Line has a really sort of futuristic strange spaceshiip look to the exterior but you have to pan your eyes away from the fact that one of London's crudiest attempts at Western regional food (Big Easy) is perched up there. There's a least a five minute brisk walk between each of the stations so keep that in mind if you need to switch between them.

Poplar DLR Station is a key hub on the DLR network and acts as an interchange for 3 of the 6 lines,…read moremeaning it's one of the busiest stations on the network with multiple platforms for different services. It is located right next to a central DLR depot, meaning you can often see parked up trains going in/out of the station. The station is partially sheltered, obviously, it was a nice place to be on a warm, sunny day in London (which is rare) - this is pretty common for most DLR stations though. I also liked how the station gave advance notice of a platform change due to some work going on at the station, even a week before it was due to happen. One of my favourite DLR stations for ease of access, lines and overall view/feel of the station as it is pretty modern indeed! It's also only 2 minutes away to Canary Wharf on the Canary Wharf-Stratford line, where you can easily connect onto Jubilee Line services for London Underground and there are also many shops and restaurants, in a cool part of the city. 4*

Or it should be bigger, since it is the only interchange that touches three of the four DLR (Docklands Light Railway) lines (Lewisham to Bank is the exception). It is in Travelcard Zone 2 and exists without ticket barricades or a staffed ticket station. There is an automated ticket machine and Oyster readers. Poplar has a very cool pedestrian footbridge that crosses over Aspen Way. Like many DLR stations, there is step-free access from the platform to street level.

I used Tower Hill quite a lot on a recent stay to London, the location is great as it is close to…read morethe Tower of London as well as Tower Gateway for the DLR and multiple buses and hotels, including the excellent Doubletree by Hilton London - Tower of London, where I was staying on a recent trip to London. It is also the main Underground station serving London Fenchurch Street. Travel Zone ONE. The entrance to Tower Hill station is a few metres from one of the largest remaining segments of the Roman London Wall which once surrounded the historic City of London, there are actually two entrances for Eastbound and Westbound, it's a shame it isn't interlinked but it signed out well to know where to go. The station is step-free, and there aren't as many lifts as there is at other stations, there's a ramp going down and then one lift to the platform, compared to two or three at other larger and more awkward stations. It is on the District and Circle lines, meaning it isn't too far away from Westminster where you can connect to the Jubilee line, but services from here also run to the likes of Victoria and Embankment. It would have been nice to perhaps see it connected on more lines, as most places I wanted to get to, I did have to make at least one change, but still the lines they're currently on is okay. Staff at the station is a good sign - but the staff were mixed, some were more helpful and friendly than others; some just didn't appear to care. No shops or toilets inside the station, but this is typical of a tube station. It isn't the largest nor most modern station on the network, but it's an average tube station and does the job, and really did make the difference for my hotel stay, providing easy access for me into central London. 3* - Improving the platforms or perhaps ensuring consistently high-quality service would be the next improvement.

This station is however lethal in the snow especially for those with prams or using wheelchairs as they never grit the ramp which becomes a sheet of black ice to go skating down. At night the station is reasonably well lit however it is an open station so security is not the best. Some closures have been occuring on this line as they prepare for the longer trains so check journey planner in advance.

Not TFL's fault, rather the anti social scum that hang out around the area with their dogs. One other thing is the lights - I think they've been out for a while! Walking across the bridge in the dark at night time is pretty hazardous, not only because of potential assault but also the chance on stepping on the dog mess that you can't see!

Still, as a station it's pretty cool, and I believe it is the last one before you get to London Bridge station, which I certainly found convenient, considering that I needed to get to Piccadilly for a show (and I did manage to make it, though I should have brought some water with me). It is located a few minutes walk away from Greenwich's main attractions. When leaving the station, turn left and walk down Greenwich High Road. Facility wise there is a small coffee shop and a news stand where you can purchase newspapers, magazines, drinks and snacks for the same price as a newsagent. Another thing which is worth noting is that for some reason the trains here stop all the way down the end of the platform, quite far away from the station entrance which is really quite annoying is if you're running late it means you are likely to miss your train. Get to the station early if you can. I have also once made a complaint to tfl as I was approached by sales people on the platform trying to sell me dental insurance (or something) which made me feel uncomfortable whilst I waited. Credit to tfl and the staff, my complaint was upheld and I haven't seen sales people on the platform since.

I have since passed through many times in the last 3.5 years and it is still magnificent. The architecture is very grandiose and picture-worthy. It is relatively easy to navigate; if I can do it as a tourist, I'm confident most can figure it out ;) The toilets (bathrooms) are a bit hidden. You need to go down a set of stairs for the ladies. The wallpaper reminded me of 2006 Victoria's Secret, and the doors are floor to ceiling offering the most privacy of any public restroom I have been in. The entire station is ridiculously clean compared to any US train or bus station I have traveled through. There are many options for coffee and food, as well as a mini M&S and Tesco Express.... Tesco Express meal deal for less than £4 cannot be beat!!! 5 stars for convince, cleanliness, friendliness, and Tesco Express.

We specifically came here because we purchased a Eurostar train ticket to Paris. From arriving, to checking in, going through customs, it was very organized and people paid attention. It wasn't chaos as it tends to get in the US. The whole process to getting on and off the train was a piece of cake-definitely not stressful at all. If you are trying to get to Paris, Amsterdam, or any outer cities near London, this is the place to be when needing to take a train. I highly recommend Eurostar since it is a high speed train and will get you to your next destination fairly quick. If you are not planning to leave the city, I still recommend checking it out since it is a beauty and I heard, Harry Potter was filmed here.
