My experience with Deptford Car Services left me both furious and laughing hysterically simultaneously. I still can't quite believe that they function as a taxi service.
I booked my taxi into central London on a Wednesday evening. The driver turned up 20 minutes late which isn't actually uncommon in past experiences. However, when the driver didn't seem to know where Oxford Street was this bemused me slightly. He then proceeded to practically emergency stop 3 times on a main road asking the passers by how to get onto the Old Kent Road. I did question him but apparently as he is from Steatham, 'this area isn't familiar to him'.
The seat belt was broken but I was definitely self assured when he told me that he could easily pick one up from the scrapheap for a couple of quid.
After the very long trip into town (including a few near death experiences and illegal maneuvers), we finally made it onto Oxford Street. It gets worse. The car then stopped and refused to start. In the middle of the busiest road in London. Perhaps we had broken down? No, the driver didn't have enough petrol and had to push the car with me in it to the nearest side street.
