I don't know if it's poor design or if it's just under construction, but I found myself in a few dead ends that had poor (or no) signage and I was confused at my whereabouts. However, that exploration got me to the end of one of the gates where I found an outdoor patio with a fire pit. Yes, it was behind security and you can go OUTSIDE. My first thought was that people would be out there smoking, but I saw "no smoking signs" everywhere. Phew. I could sit outside and get some fresh air and watch the planes line up for takeoff. Much better than getting lost in the terminal.

I really don't like this airport. It's confusing, the walks are way too long, and there's…read moreconstruction everywhere. Having to take the shuttle train thing just to get to baggage claim is stupid. I also don't understand the whole west and east wing separation. Feels like a lot of unnecessary walking and confusion. Some of the restaurants are really good though. Had some bison chili while waiting and that was bomb. Also, I hate Southwest. Okay, that's all for now.

I recently flew Spirit Air and honestly think they deserve higher marks than 1 1/2 stars. True…read morethere is a charge for just about everything on top of the low price fare, but they are very up front about these costs in their website. On any third party booking app it is clear there is a charge for carry on bags. Given that this is unusual, it should prompt the consumer to investigate further and it is not the airlines fault if consumers do not choose to do this. My only complaints were that checked baggage has a 40 pound limit or it is an extra $60. I have traveled all over the world and am familiar with the 50 pound limit put on luggage going overseas. This charge on a domestic flight seems like a money grabbing scheme to me and seems unnecessary given that it is out of line with standard practice. There was no food offered on my 3 1/2 hour flight. I could only get over priced, unhealthy snacks. It seems reasonable to offer some small, healthy fare on most flights and I was disappointed that this was not an option. Also charging for basic beverage service should be outlawed on airlines in my opinion. Dehydration is a serious concern and people should not be denied water based on ability to pay. They are not the most communicative of airlines. They should definitely put some serious money into improving their website, especially for online check in which is needlessly confusing. Now on to the good stuff. For an additional $45 I was able to secure a roomy and comfortable seat close to the front of the plane, almost like flying business class for dirt cheap My flight included a long layover and both planes were clean and new. We were delayed on the tarmac for an hour and a half due to weather. In all my travels this is the only time I have been cool and comfortable during a lengthy tarmac delay. It made all the difference to not feel like you were being cooked alive in a tin can during a lengthy take off wait. The staff were all amazing. Everyone I came into contact with was friendly and professional. They went out of their way to help. They allowed me a free carry on when I opted to bring my checked bag down to 40 pounds to avoid the $60 surcharge. This turned a nasty surprise into a positive experience. Even with the additional seat fare and higher than average checked bag cost, I still paid less than half of what the average going fare was to my destination making this an overall positive experience. Would I recommend Spirit Air? Certainly, with the caveat to travel very light and stock up in food and beverage before boarding.
