BEWARE OF OVER BILLING On December 4, 2024, schedule an appointment with dentist Vaidehi Trivedi to correct my bite. At the beginning of my appointment, I was directed to take x-trays. I admittedly denied the service and I told her dental assistance several times my insurance would not cover x-trays, and I just needed her to adjust my bite. The office Manager/billing expert stood behind and said in the presence of my husband and dental assistance I would not be charged for x-rays . I then allowed the dental assistant to put those small wing shaped objects in my mouth and a few bite-wing x-rays were taken. My husband and I then proceeded to the dental chair where Vaidehi adjusted my bit. She also recommended a night guard. The office manager/billing expert came in afterwards to discuss the price of the guard. I declined to purchase the 275.00-night guard. On December 6, 2024, I reached out to Aetna - Dental to go over my remaining benefits and I noticed Vaidehi charged me 799.00 that included: 3D Con Bean CT, Panoramic , Bite wings x-rays, and an exam. I was not surprised about the exam but I was appalled that I billed for x-trays that did not take place. I filed a complaint with Aetna - Dental , my dental insurance company. I am now requesting the correction claim be file with my insurance company and my account be credited back for all the x-rays. Mostly because a couple of them did not happen and for the bite-wings x-rays because I was there would be no charge and my husband and the dental assistant was present when I was told this by the billing expert. I am now seeking an corrected invoice for services rendered. On December 9, 2024 at 7:15 am I spoke to Jennifer the billing agent. She just happen to call to cancel my husbands appointment. I addressed my concern of her billing me for x-rays that did not take place. Again she said, we always bill the insurance but we don't expect them to pay and we don't bill you for xrays. I told her so you just bill and try max out my insurance without charging me personally. That is alarming. She said yes bet it is,. I told her she charged me for a panosonic xray and they only pay for those once a year. She corrected and said its every 36 months the insurance will pay out. Again she said she did not see in the system where they paid,. I call Aetna Dental PPO on 3-ways and we once we got Jennifer on the phone she said she was in the process of refunding the funds my insurance paid for xrays due to services not rendered. Summary, this Dental office has over charging your insurance built into their business practices and if their customers are not checking the charges to their insurance, they are taking advantage of unsuspecting customers.

Not only is their social media on point, but it has been the most pleasant experience I have ever had at the dentist. Their office is so open and modern and clean. The entire staff is very welcoming and they offered me water or coffee to drink while I was waiting. Dr. Humphrey is super friendly and makes you feel very comfortable. He walked me through what work he would be doing and answered all of my questions. I also really appreciate that he takes a holistic/modern combo approach to his practice. He was super supportive of me removing my silver fillings, which some dentists may steer you away from. KC Dental Works also has some of the best technology in the city to safely remove amalgam fillings, from what I've been informed. They use several different techniques to ensure that no mercury enters your body from extraction, which is obviously appreciated! I live downtown but it is worth the drive to Lenexa to see this dentist!

As I leave a summation here of what our experience was at KC Dental Works, know that I share our…read morestory in hopes of protecting & sparing other families from the experience we went through. Also be aware that our case is not unique- we know other families treated by Dr. John Humphrey with very similar experiences: I have taken my kids to Dr. Humphrey for the entirety of their childhood lives (4 & 5yo). I followed the directions given by him- toothpaste recommendations, floss and even ozone therapies for my older child. He filled several cavities in my older child's mouth over the course of her 4th and 5th years (even re-did some because they fell out). In October of 2022, we went in for a routine cleaning and were told my oldest child (5yo) had two new cavities (we are on fillings number 6 & 7 at this point) and that he would see us back in 5 months (!) to fill them. Two weeks later, part of one of her teeth fell completely off. I texted the office immediately that evening and got a response in the morning from the front desk explaining that he didn't have time to see us for another 5 months, so we would have to go elsewhere. So, mortified that our "trusted" dentist wouldn't see my 5yo daughter with an urgent dental issue, I reached out to numerous pediatric dentists in the area and made appointments over the next several days. We then found out that Dr. Humphrey had missed NINE cavities in my child's mouth- nine. She was sitting there with 11 decaying teeth in her mouth and he was willing to have her wait 5 months before filling the two that he had found. All of the pediatric dentists that we consulted told me that they could see the cavities with the naked eye and only needed Xray's to view the extent of decay. Subsequent to Dr. Humphrey's expansive negligence, my 5yo daughter needed urgent oral surgery, requiring general anesthesia, 8 crowns and several fillings, amounting to $7,000+ worth of work. In addition, my younger child also had the beginnings of 4 cavities which were promptly and appropriately taken care of at our new dentist's office- 4 cavities that Dr. Humphrey did not find just two months prior. Once a child has a small amount of decay in their mouth it spreads like wildfire so you need an dentist who is thorough, discerning and proactive. Dr. John Humphrey is absent of any of these traits. Please take our traumatic experience and use it to guide you- don't leave your child's (or your own) mouth in the hands of KC Dental Works. I too thought I was doing the best thing, looking for a holistic dentist in Kansas City. But in doing so and trusting Dr. Humphrey, more damage has been caused than I could have ever imagined.

After a hiatus from Dr.Bridenstein, I called and made two appointments, I did not know about Dr.Boldry until they put myself and daughter into cancellation appointments so we got in sooner. But they FAILED TO MENTION, NOT IN NETWORK. My insurance covers cleanings and X-rays twice a year. Why would I request someone I would have to be OUT OF POCKET FOR? Nope, sure wouldn't Couple of months later I get the $92.55 bill. Beware, they are SCANDALOUS! Now, they have lost three clients. Way to go Debbie!

The RDHs are always friendly and go out of their way to make our visits comfortable, whether offering pillows, blankets, specific flavors of tooth polish or a movie to help take our minds off dental matters. The ladies at the desk up front who deal with the business side always make our insurance coverage easy to understand even when I've forgotten some of the details I should know in advance. They make every effort to check on prices of services when I ask, and they can help set up payment plans if needed. They are kind and considerate when I need to reschedule an appointment, and they always welcome my family when we enter the office. Likewise, Dr. Bridenstine makes every effort to be sure dental services are stellar. We have always had a positive experience with his sedation dentistry, and he provides a thorough explanation of options when available. We have only experienced excellence in his work, and we have appreciated how he goes above and beyond to create a positive outcome for his patients. A couple of years ago, I returned to his office two extra times at no charge just so he could alleviate some discomfort I had after a filling needed to be filed a little more delicately. While I was numb, I hadn't noticed. Yet, he made it right a second time even after I wasn't sure about it the first time I returned. Now, that's patience for your patient! All the staff members work diligently to make dental visits pleasant. I have always appreciated their use of soft, professional voices via individual headsets to prioritize communication and timeliness while maintaining privacy. The entire practice operates in a well-orchestrated manner while each employee treats one another with respect and kindness. They have created a culture of team effort that works for the good of the patient, and I highly recommend their dentistry practice.

Julia's front desk assistant was extremely gracious and fit me in almost immediately, even calling me the day of my appointment to let me know I could come in early if I wanted. Julia and her staff are friendly, very warm, and take the time to chat with you and make you feel comfortable as they're working on your teeth. She showed an interest in me and my life (which is by no means a requirement of a good dentist) and went above and beyond as far as making me feel at ease with the whole process. First off let me say I am not the easiest of patients to deal with being as fussy as what I am…read more Over time I have seen quite a few dentists who each boast that they are the best at what they do...sadly this is not always the case or at least that is what I have found during some of my experiences. Experience being the key word... Dr. Knewtson was tasked with placing 4 implants and making a horseshoe implant supported denture for me after I had some poorly fitted crowns with a well known nationwide dentistry that had failed. He was direct and he was very patient with my needs which to me was massively important !!! No matter what frustration I had (and believe me I had issues) Dr. Knewtson remained patient and professional until my final procedure was completed successfully. Simply he did his job and he did his job well. The end result is what matters the most. Would I recommend him? ...absolutely!!! I have never had any issues since the whole procedure was done. The only sad thing I can actually say is that Dr. Knewtson is no longer in the Springfield MO area. I think however a 4hr drive for his services would be well worth it. If you want direct...if you want patient...If you want experience...if you want professional...if you want the job doing right ... Dr. Knewtson quietly wears each one of these descriptions very well !!! Don't let his reasonable and competitive cost interfere with your decision...seriously that is just a BIG BONUS !!! A really nice genuine guy ! I wish him all the luck in the world with his new practice in Lenexa KS. Clive Sanderson

After another dentist destroyed my smile and exhausted my insurance benefits, I was left feeling discarded and financially defeated. I wasn't just looking for a dentist I was looking for someone who would treat me like a human being again. Then I found Dr. Austin Rickabaugh in Lenexa, Kansas. From the very first visit, he walked me through every single step of the process with patience and kindness. No rushing. No delegating the important work. No disappearing act. He personally handled my care and stayed in the room until everything was complete. On time. Thorough. Present. For someone who was terrified and emotionally worn down, that mattered more than he probably knows. Dr. Rickabaugh didn't just restore my smile he restored my confidence. He took a patient who felt thrown away and treated me like I mattered. And let's talk about his staff. Every single person in that office is organized, warm, and genuinely caring. You can tell they were chosen with intention. The entire environment feels professional but safe which is rare when you're sitting in a dental chair trying not to panic. If you are scared... If you've had a bad experience... If you feel embarrassed about your teeth... If you think you're "too far gone"... You are not. And this is the dentist you want in your corner.
