Was in search for a new dentist and a friend had a referral gift card that she could give to anyone (neat idea!). I got one of these cards and made an appointment.
It's a cozy little office, as the building has two offices and they're slowly taking over the other office and will have more space. As I checked in the front desk staff were super friendly and gave me a tour of the office and a little history about the practice.
The dental assistant that was cleaning my teeth was very personable, had great communication, and made me feel comfortable. I was impressed with the technology they had with the futuristic x-ray machine and taking pictures of your teeth and seeing them on a computer screen in front of you.
Near the end, Dr. Heil came to look things over. As she did she was mentioning what teeth needed treatment. Up to this point, everything was well explained to me, and they with saying certain teeth needed treatment. I had to ask the assistant if I had cavities, and she said yes and hands me a list of teeth that needed treatment. Well it was quite a surprise as seventeen teeth need treatment. Some teeth were not in as bad shape, and they wanted to refill the fillings that I already had. To treat all these teeth would have cost me $3800! I was shocked and confused. I was unsure if my teeth were really in that bad of shape or was I being taken advantage of because I didn't have dental insurance.
Fortunately, my mother works at a dental office and told her about this situation. I got copies of my x-rays and had her look at them and she was surprised about the treatment that they wanted to do. She recommended to get a second opinion. I did go to a different office and had completely different results. Yes, my teeth are not in perfect shape, but they were recommended getting sealant on some teeth and didn't have any cavities.
Dental Expressions staff is super friendly and it was mostly a positive experience, but in the end I felt like they just wanted my money. I will not be giving my referral gift cards to anyone. read more
