The front desk is very welcoming, professional, and courteous. My teenage son was first seen for a cleaning and consultation for several extractions. The hygienist was amazing. I let her know my concerns and she was very understanding. She made sure that my son knew all of the consequences for not taking care of his teeth. She is amazing! I am terrible with names but I do believe her name was April. If I am wrong please forgive me. He later saw Dr. Scales for fillings and teeth extractions he had zero complications or complaints. His mind was at ease and he was told what was being done and what to expect every step of the way. As I waited in the waiting area they made sure to let me know how he was doing a couple times throughout the procedure. Afterwards, Again I am terrible with names, the young lady with beautiful red hair, was very thorough with the after care instructions I was confident in what needed to be done at home. I had a very small filling fall out and they were able to make an appointment for me quickly. Before my appointment I had a bigger filling fall out, they got me in and were able to assess the problem and do a temporary fix until my appointment and made sure I was not in pain over the weekend. I saw Dr. Moreno and he was amazing. His staff put my mind at ease, as I have a fear of the numbing shots. I did not even feel the shots or anything else during the entire procedure. They made my crown the same day, so I did not have to get a temporary crown and take more time off of work for another appointment to get the permanent crown. Again I am bad with names, this young lady is from Kentucky, and she made sure my crown was perfect. Her and Dr. Moreno made sure that all of my concerns and questions were addressed before I went home. The young ladies at the counter when you leave are great as well. They have always addressed any questions I had. I know there are some behind the scenes people whom I have never met but they answer the phone when I call and they are amazing. They always explain everything to me and make sure I completely understand before we hang up. As I stated earlier they made appointments for me very quickly when needed, even called me if there was a cancellation so I could be seen sooner. I have found the dentist I truly like as I used to dread going because of not so great experiences. Now I love having my teeth cleaned and look forward to going. My husband and I have been coming here for at least 14 years. We are here twice a year for our preventive cleanings--June and December. Dr. Schaefer and his staff are all genuinely very kind! Lita is my hygienist. I really like her chair side manner beginning with bite wings, panoramic x-ray and the actual cleaning. I hardly feel a thing at all when she flosses my teeth during the cleaning procedure and she is super gentle with the brushing as well. In between the rinsing and swishing, she and I have the best conversations about gardening, family and her young daughter. :) Raquel is the office manager. She is always helpful and works with our schedule. I prefer mid morning appointments or Saturday mornings over the years as my husband travels for his job. Sometimes we take the Friday late afternoon or the 2:00 Saturday. This works best most of the time as his flight sometimes gets in late. Lol. Dr. Schaefer has a pleasant demeanor, honest and never tries to push unnecessary dental services. He lets you know what he is about to do when observing your teeth and gums with the dental tools. He is the most gentle dentist I have ever met and always gives great advise. I have been to many dental establishments in the past always pushing $300.00 electric toothbrushes and other skin care products to purchase. Well not so here which is nice. My visit on Friday was a great visit! The office was organized and clean. I didn't have anyone in the waiting area with me as I was prepared to wait in my vehicle. I did wear my mask coming in and Lita took my forehead temperature before my x-rays and cleaning. At the end, it was good news for me.... Yay to no cavities or any questionable findings at this visit. Will be back for sure in December for our second 6 month cleaning! They took FOUR MONTHS to contact patients about dropping an entire LARGE medical insurance provider. Then, the call came under 14hrs BEFORE an appointment, that had been scheduled over six months in advance. Their excuse? "We have a lot of patients". It's, apparently, too hard to generate an email (I receive their updates) message to patients under that provider and let them know about that pesky detail. An electronic calendar too hard, too, a thing to use. Not the first (or tenth, for that matter) admin issue; I remained with them for over 3 years due to the quality of care, but seldom they were on the ball about paperwork. Also my favorite, the lip from admin personnel. Love that. Just a shame.

Beware of their "Deep Cleaning Scam"!…read more I unfortunately fell victim to this scheme twice. Each time, I was told I needed a deep cleaning, and, not knowing any better, I agreed to pay $200 out of pocket. During my next check-up, they attempted the same tactic, but this time I pushed back. They finally conceded that I no longer needed the procedure--of course, after I had already spent another $200. We scheduled my next appointment for six months later. However, when I arrived, I was informed that I required a "post deep cleaning" for an additional $172 out of pocket. I argued that I only wanted a normal cleaning, but they refused my request. The hygienist even became agitated and kicked me out--leading me to suspect she receives a kickback for promoting deep cleanings. Be cautious of corporate dentists! I urge you to Google "Deep Cleaning Scams" to avoid falling into the same trap I did with Sage.

They will let you know if you aren't keeping up with your dental hygiene or need some work done to keep your mouth healthy. Second, I trust them. Some dentists, especially those working for large chains, try to upsell you with every visit. When Dr. Vanbenthuysen tells me I need a service, I never doubt it. Third, the office staff is friendly and efficient. Fourth, the hygienists are efficient and thorough. Fifth, finally, and most importantly, Dr. Vanbenthuysen. I had some invasive work done, and I received a call from the doctor later that evening asking me how it was going. WHO DOES THAT ANYMORE? So, although the service at the Fleming Island Office is good, I cannot recommend Great Expressions due to their central office lack of communication.
