I've gone there for 30 years (since I was a kid) & couldn't be happier. Great office, great staff!

While I had high hopes for my treatment, I encountered several serious issues that left me feeling frustrated and undervalued as a patient. My treatment began on July 12, 2021, under Dr. Charlie Palayno, but I was later reassigned to Dr. Nick. During a recent appointment, Dr. Nick acknowledged that communication needed improvement but assured me that my treatment would proceed smoothly. However, in my next visit, Dr. Charlie Palayno informed me that my treatment had been deemed too prolonged and that he would not be continuing it. When I requested to review my contract, I was met with a dismissive response. He even yelled for someone to "deal with her" when he refused to continue my treatment, which was incredibly unprofessional and left me feeling scared. Throughout this process, I never received any apologies for the distress I experienced. I attempted to explain that my delays were due to personal circumstances affecting my dental hygiene, but my concerns were met with frustration rather than understanding. Additionally, I faced issues when trying to order a new retainer after losing mine. I was initially told I couldn't place an order due to a charge on my family account that I clarified was not my responsibility. After speaking with a manager, I was eventually allowed to proceed with my order, but it felt like pulling teeth (pun intended). I also can't shake the feeling that I was treated differently during my treatment due to my age, which adds to my disappointment with this practice. I understand that being culturally competent can be challenging in today's world, but I believe it is essential for providing quality care. During a meeting with management to discuss my concerns, I clarified that I had not yelled at any employees; rather, I was expressing my frustration with how I felt I was being treated. I pointed out that the practice was charging me $485 for what seemed unjustified, and I made it clear that I found this unacceptable. After experiencing numerous issues throughout my treatment, I felt it was difficult to remain courteous. While management seemed to empathize with my situation, I left feeling perplexed by the lack of accountability for the problems I encountered. Last week marked my final appointment, and I was unaware it was my last until after leaving. Shortly after, I received a call stating that the practice would be discontinuing their services with me due to our previous conversation. I have since requested this decision in writing for my records. While I appreciate the initial care I received, the overall experience has been disappointing and distressing. I hope the practice can improve communication and treatment protocols for future patients. Plenty of places need to get shut down. They remain open. That's life. (Also a lot of these good reviews are because they offered whitening pens to guests if they left a review. I have heard terrible stories about this place from many)

She told me that all of the previous dental work performed on me over the many years prior by every dentist I have ever had was failing and needed to be re-done. She refilled every cavity and replaced every crown! Later I discovered that not only was much of it was unnecessary but what she did was done was done incorrectly. I last saw Kristen in early 2020, before the pandemic. I returned to the practice after the pandemic in 2022 to find that Kristen was no longer there and her now ex-husband was the sole dentist. My X-rays revealed that much of the work Kristen had done in my mouth was failing and he said it had to be done. I was told that even though the work was done in that office, he was not going to honor any work Kristen had done. The treatment plan he came up with was going to cost me well over $5000. I called my insurance company and they suggested I get another opinion. They told me if I decided to stay with Simpkins Family Dental, I could have my file sent to mediation because most of the work in question was performed within 3 years and should have been corrected by Simpkins. I had the second opinion and yes, Kristen did do sloppy work. I became established under another dentist who was professional and trustworthy. He monitors the subpar work closely. I have since had to have one tooth pulled that Kristen "re-capped". I feel that this practice is predatory and willfully drains insurance coverage. They will not stand by their work. Beware.... Stay away!!!
