Dr. Betar is a very talented dentist who appears well-versed in his field. Overall very competent. His staff is well trained and executes their duties professionally. Unfortunately, my wife's experience in this office differed significantly from mine. Her overall experience with the staff was not as good as mine. She did not appreciate Dr. Betar's unwillingness to discuss treatment options. This all led to them dismissing her as a patient. The dismissal was because she did not accept his treatment plan. This was very frustrating because he never took the time to discuss treatment plans or offer options. He failed to explain what and why. Because they dismissed my wife, they also dismissed me. They told me their policy states that if one family member is dismissed, the whole family gets let go. I found this to be very disappointing. I had never given them a hard time about anything and accepted Betar's treatment plans without any pushback. Finding a competent dentist and becoming established with them takes time and money. Being dismissed by Betar's office was very frustrating. They were unwilling to discuss the situation with me to come to a resolution that did not involve me being dismissed along with my wife. I was not allowed to talk to anyone beyond the front desk.

Let me preface this by saying this is the first yelp review I've ever written. For me to take the…read moretime to do so should tell you something. Scammers. There's no nice way to say it. Stay away from Aspen Dental...period. I visited the Altoona office this past week. I will say they were very thorough with xrays, but that's the only positive you'll get out of me. What I can't wrap my head around is how a cleaning was going to cost me 3600 dollars. That's with me having really good dental insurance. All due to my gum disease requiring an antibiotic. When I said "well then let's just skip the antibiotic that isn't covered by my insurance and get a regular cleaning", I was turned away and told that it was part of the procedure. Absolute horse manure. I'd like to know what antibiotic costs 112 dollars, and that's per tooth. This is predatory. Let's make sure we add as much as we can to this client's bill, and make sure it's not covered by insurance. This business model shouldn't thrive, but when most of your income is from feeding off insecurity and vanity, for some reason it does. Now I'm also in the same boat as a previous yelper where I have to wait another 6 months just to get my teeth cleaned. Aspen did absolutely nothing for me but somehow that counts as a cleaning. I mean, they did give me a tiny cup of mouthwash while I was there. I'm beyond livid.

Totally agree with past reviewer. This used to be the best, my son started as a toddler here and…read morethey were amazing. Recommended them over and over. Now I am finally throwing in the towel after yet ANOTHER incident with them yesterday. They only have one dentist Dr. Lee who works late afternoon so I don't have to pull my kiddo from school. Which BTW unlike they suggest I should have to do....rather than suggesting I have to pull my kid, here's an idea... GET A DOCTOR THAT IS ABLE TO SEE PATIENTS ON TIME!!! I have dealt with this issue before and sat waiting for the doctor while I listened to him talk with a patient about everything in life other than her dental care including a political conversation that I found inappropriate and offensive .... All while other patients sat and waited and waited and waited past their appointment times. Well more if the same yesterday!!!! Son scheduled for 3:45. Called the office and was told not to bother to bring him until 4:30.... Brought him at 4:30 and told the nurse that he was here for his filling but I couldn't stay because I have a second job that I COULDN'T BE LATE FOR...Which is why I scheduled a 3:45 appointment!!!! I told the nurse my son was good to go and hos dad would be there by 5 to pick him up. His dad gets there and waits in the car for a few minutes and then goes in wondering where our 14 year old is??? They have not yet seen him because they DIDN'T HAVE PARENTAL CONSENT !!!! Are you so serious?!?! First I walked in with him and GAVE CONSENT and he is 14.... Which is the legal age of consent for medical treatment!!! This after poor care on 2 root canals, being unable to schedule appointments until months out because they have too many patients and waiting for an hour past my apppntment so that their doctor can have offensive conversation with patients thae has nothing to do with DENTAL WORK!!! I am DONE!!!

I used to love this dentist office! I started going to them when they were in a brick house near…read morethe Cathedral Church many, many years ago. My 4 kids all went there there also, the only times we didn't was when it was a result of an insurance issue. I had to get a crown this past Fall, first one, I had no idea how awful it actually was to get one but turns out that was nothing compared to the aftermath. I was eating this past Easter Sunday evening and my crown fell off. I called them as soon as they opened the next morning and was told they didn't have time to see me, they would have to schedule me for the next day. I was so upset and devastate, I didn't appreciate it lasting less than a year not to mention the tooth nubby I had showing now that was embarrassing. I paid $500 plus whatever my insurance paid out for this crap job and now they want me to have to call off another day of work. I was upset to say the least. They did end up calling me back and squeezed me in. To reapply my crown that I still had took them a whole 10 minutes!! That was early April. Then this month, July,I was eating and again the crown came off. I immediately called them as it was a Friday morning and I am going on vacation, I was really upset. I frantically called them, not even mentioning vacation before she went to talk to the dentist and was told they could get me in as an emergency on Monday. Really? Monday! I told her I would be on vacation, I was put on hold and when she came back was told they could see me after my vacation. I was SO mad and SO sad because now all I am thinking about is this awful tooth nubby you can see when I smile and talk, I have more than enough stress on my life, don't need this for something that was their mistake for apparently not properly doing my crown In the first place!! It takes 10 minutes and I was prepared to leave work at whatever time they had available. Now I am really mad and see that they truly do not care about their patients!!! They have lost their compassion for their patients, they are too busy with not enough dentists which is obvious when they don't have 10 minutes for their mistake and my self esteem and are willing to let me go on vacation like this. I used to recommend them to others and now myself and my grown children will be going elsewhere. Shame on them for losing their compassion along the way! I would NEVER recommend them for ANY dental procedure and I truly regret the day I took their advice and got this crown. Shame on them!!

Ok, I was referred to Kaczor because of the type of dental coverage I have. The referring dentist…read morewas hesitant and now I know why. I was looking for an oral surgeon to remove three of my teenage son's baby teeth. He is missing 5 adult teeth and still had 3 baby teeth in their places (both incisors and a bottom molar). The molar had fused to the jaw bone. So, not really just a quick pull type of situation. When I first called and explained what my son needed they were very helpful, right up to the point that they asked what insurance I had. I currently am on medical assistance. My husband had become deathly ill and was forced out of work due to the illness (which he had 18 surgeries in 22 months and still nearly died), therefore we had no choice but to use the assistance available to us, which has literally been a blessing. We would have been homeless without it. At that point the woman on the phone told me that we didn't qualify to have his teeth removed. He needed to have 4 or more teeth removed in order to "be covered". I was confused and called the insurance company. They explained that he was most definitely covered for as many or as few teeth needed to be removed. Still confused I questioned why I would have been told that and if the doctor is able to set insurance qualifications such as 4 or more teeth. I was told no. They either accept the coverage or they don't and if they do they must abide by the allowances made by the insurance coverage not by their own choosing. So, I call back to the office and see if I can figure out what the misunderstanding is. As soon as the woman heard my name she said "I already told you that you don't qualify" I went on to explain what I had been told by the insurance company and her response was "Those people know what our requirements are, we have told them repeatedly. They are idiots. They keep sending 'you people' (with the sound in her voice like she was trying not to vomit) to us when you don't meet our requirements." I asked exactly what she meant by 'you people'. Her response "who live on assistance". To say I was shocked and upset is an understatement. I calmly and quickly explained my husbands illness that put us in the need of assistance in the first place and then told her that I hope no one ever treats her they way she clearly treats "you people'. She then hung up on me. I called the insurance company back and was given other surgeons that accept "you people". The first one I called was the closest after Kaczor and is over an hour from where I live but I will happily drive it to get my son the care he needs from people who actually want to treat him. If you are near Phillipsburg, PA or don't mind the drive....call Drs. Rice and Ali 814-375-0500. We were treated with care and respect and able to schedule for the surgery in less than a week.

I am nearly 5 months pregnant and took him in at a little before 9am. I hadn't eaten or had even a drink with me because I figured I would go a few blocks down and get something once he went in. Wrong! The staff was very rude and even blocked the door so I couldn't leave. I had to at least lock up my car and make a call for someone to bring me something so I didn't get sick. I was standing on the steps in front of the door for maybe 5 minutes. Never moved my car just locked it up. Meanwhile the doctor first tells my bf that if I wasn't back in 5 miniutes that he would not use anesthesia (only novacaine) to surgically remove 11 teeth. Then told him that he checked the parking lot and that my vehicle was not there so I must have left so he was going to cancel his surgery. As I stood out front of the door calling family the secretary came out as though something was Wong and told me I needed to come now. Only to be told I had to sit in the waiting room right now, which was 10 feet from the door. So as I am waiting for someone to bring me a drink etc. I am then told that I am not even allowed to go out and get the stuff when it is brought. A short while later I am taken to a back room and made to shut my phone off (so now I can't even be contacted when my family arrives). I still had to wait another 30 minutes before he was discharged and at that point they suggested that maybe someone else take care of him. All we asked for was 10 minutes for me to get a drink and some food so I could take my medicines , had I not been pregnant it wouldn't have been a big deal. They made no sense when they said I had to stay in case something happens, well it's not as if I was going to be allowed back in the room if something went bad Or they needed me to call amed. I just feel the staff should have informed us more before hand. Never have I heard of any doctors office or hospital for any procedure telling someone they had to stay inside the building, couldn't be outside the doors even to get a drink. They were extremely rude about the entire situation and the Dr lying to him that I had apparently gotten in my car and snuck away when I went out to lock my vehicle was absolutely unprofessional. Maybe it's just my pregnancy hormones and being sick on a daily basis doesn't help. I thought I was trying to do the nice thing and didn't sit and.ear and drink in front of him at home and would do it while he was in the appointment, WRONG!
