After doing a shop at El Mais, I spied an Indian supermarket/fish monger a few blocks up in…read moreJosefstrasse. Thoughts of making channa propelled me through the door. I was not disappointed. Chickpeas, lentils, peas, and rice line the shelves. Spices, sauces, pastes, and coconut milk line others. Dried fish, dried fruits, dried noodles, and nut candies were also among the offerings. I was pleased to discover that the market sells products from SE Asia, too. -though I don't think that they carry fish sauce. As I made my way to the counter, I saw that So. Asian magazines were also for sale.
The other half of the store, the smell of which permeates throughout, is taken up by the fishmonger. I'd be keen on going back and checking out their selection next time I'm in the 'hood.
What with ground cumin (like finding a four-leaf clover) from the El Mais and sesame paste from India Supermarkt, I'm on the way to making hummus once again. Merci vielmal, Zueri!
