Mile End, Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie

This place is BY FAR the best guitar repair/maintenance shop in montreal. After going to the…read moreabsolute clowns at steve's (had 1 single dead fret, instead of filing it the guy just raised the action to an ungodly height), Luthier MF (couldn't figure out why my intonation was bad) , archambault (just knew how to turn a truss rod), jimi's (similar to archambault and they think fender is the only brand in existence), Nantel (horrrible experience there, completely fucked my bass and then wouldnt give me a refund until I yelled at them and threatened to sue, that has its own review though if you wanna see that) I had my doubts whether there was someone who actually capable of fixing my bass. I gave my bass to Nantel because I lived nearby and there was one string that rattled so much it didn't produce a note, they fucked my shit up for months trying over and over, eventually I went to Montreal Guitar. The fact that Nantel even called me to tell me my bass was ready for pickup is beyond me, because it was the exact same as it was going in if not worse. If you go there check before you leave that they actually did anything before paying, that was my mistake. Had to send it back 3 times and they were upset when I didn't wanna send it back for a 4th try. They wanted to keep my money just because "the luthier is trying really hard", sorry you dont get paid for effort you get paid for a job done properly. All that to say, Toby at Montreal guitar was absolutely phenomenal and was able to diagnose the problems and fix everything PERFECTLY. I am truly amazed, absolutely the best guitar repair in montreal. He is a repair god. It's insane how these other kooks call themselves Luthiers or repairmen when they only know how to change some strings and do a very basic setup if they can even do that without fucking up. They get business because people are afraid of doing their own mentanance and think turning a truss rod will snap their neck in half -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MONTREAL GUITAR is fucking AMAZING. I'm still in shock how well of a job they did when Nantels luthier who had 50+ or something years of experience couldn't figure it out over the course of several months and multiple attempts. If you want something done RIGHT, go to MONTREAL GUITAR. Everywhere else in montreal I've tried is absolute trash and it's sad. They are fantastic. I'd give them 200 stars out of 5 if I could.

Toby and his team are the most knowledgeable, professional and capable guitar techs in the city…read more I've trusted them to setup several of my guitars, electrics and acoustics, over the last few years. They do a stellar job every time. Most recently, I had to bring a new Martin OM28 in for a repair because the high E string was too close to the edge of the fretboard (such that if I did a downward pull-off, the string would roll off the crowned edge of the frets, killing those notes). Toby immediately spotted that the nut slots were improperly spaced (which was kind of disappointing for a brand new Martin, but at least Martin covered the repair). The repair and setup was done PERFECTLY! I couldn't believe what a difference it made...to the point, I felt compelled to email Toby to thank him and to post this review (something I never do). Montreal guitarists need to know about this place. They are the authorized service center for all the big name brands (including Martin, Taylor, Fender and Gibson). Yes, they unfortunately have a two month waiting period at the present time, but that's only because they have a stellar rep. But not to worry, you don't have to be without your guitar during that period. Just contact them to make an appointment and reserve your spot. Then they'll contact you when it's time to bring your guitar in and it will be ready for pickup within a week for simple repairs or setups. All I can say is that it's well worth the wait! If you want your guitar to play and sound its best, do yourself a favor and take it to Montreal Guitar. Thanks Toby and gang! You have a loyal customer for life (for the record, I am not affiliated with Montreal Guitar in any way...I'm just a very happy customer who wants to spread the word to my fellow Montreal guitarists). Happy picking!

Absolutely the best professional woodwind and brass instrument dealer in the Montreal area,…read morepossibly the best in the province. Excellent selection of instruments and accessories. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. It's a family owned business and the owners are part of the team. The repair technicians are first rate. For professionals and students this is the place that has what you need. If they don't have it they will order it for you. For brass and woodwinds, Twigg's has no equal.

They have a huge selection of wind instruments at all price points ranging from some second hand ones for a few hundred dollars to ones that rivalled the price of a small car... There is also a small selection of other instruments like guitars, drum kits, and keyboards, but clearly brass and wood winds are their forte here. Service was wonderful, the sales lady took the time to bring out several models at various price points and explained the pros and cons of each. There wasn't really any attempt to upsell us on a higher end model. They have sound proof practice rooms and my daughter got to try out all the different models on her own. We left with a shiny new trumpet that was within our budget, very happy with the service and our purchase.

Why not a 5-star rating? Only because of slightly cramped quarters and one so-so experience with a…read moresales person. The short: One of the best places to shop for synthesizers and modulars in Montréal. The long: Luckily I knew exactly what I wanted and did not waste anyone's time (including my own) trying to get information out of the sales staff. Usually in music shops, recommendations are based on a person's own préférences and not necessarly for the actual product or what it is to be used for. Anyway my own experience has been generally pleasant, hassle-free, and had a great experience even when I had to return a deffective item. They also price matched an item I had found less expensive online (another Montréal-based store) but in general, they offer very competitive pricing. The only drawbacks I experienced were the cramped quarters which make keyboard/synth/device browsing a bit difficult, and once I asked questions to a gentleman in the smaller guitar-bass section and I got the impression of being judged due to my existing gear and looking for rare strings for a specific bass I own. Generally speaking, it's a great shop if you are a synth fan and made more pleasant if you know in advance what you are looking for.

Awful as I specifically asked if everything worked fine before I left the rental office. I asked if they'd tried it before packing it into my vehicle. Never renting from them again. This is unacceptable.
