As usual, it was a little confusing to get there (why are the locations of places like this SO HARD to find?!?!). I think at the very last turn, our directions said to go left when we were supposed to go right, or something like that. I think maybe it was trying to take us to the canoe rental, also called/ under the name Cowskin. Kind of an interesting spot because it's near/ under a highway (or some kind of road?) bridge. Not too many people, maybe one or two bigger groups of people and then a handful more of groups of 2 or 3 people. Some of the smaller groups were really only just passing by via canoes or rafts, anyway. The river definitely has space to spread out far past the "entrance" if you want to keep plenty of distance between you and others there. The water is decently clear, and seemed pretty clean. The deeper parts of course weren't as clear because there's more water between you and the ground, but even then you can still kind of see your feet touching the bottom. That deepest part went about to my waist. There may be deeper parts than this further down, but we didn't stray too far away from the "entrance". There's a nice current as well as areas that are more still, so it's great for adapting to different water activities, depending on if you want to float away (on a boat or just on your own) or just stay in place and kind of wade around. Some places also had a little island in the middle, creating two different streams but also a place where you could hang around out of the water, other than the entrance spot. The surrounding area, from what we saw, was pretty empty. I say this to say: if you think you might make a day of it/ need food at some point, maybe bring some of your own. I could be wrong, but I really don't remember seeing ANYWHERE where you could grab anything (food or otherwise) nearby.

One of those beautiful places that most people to come to Oklahoma will never see or even know exists.

Our cabin, and the adjoining one, had a large shared deck with tables and chairs and steps on both sides of it for easy access. We loved sitting out on the deck watching all the boaters and swimmers and chatting with everyone who passed by. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that a paddleboat, paddle boards, and kayaks were available to cabin renters. The owners even helped us get them in and out of the water! All of these recreational items were well taken care of and provided as a courtesy to cabin renters. We were very surprised to learn that many of the guests at Longs Resort on Grand Lake rented there yearly. However, by the time we were ready to leave -- we understood why! Leaving Longs Resort on Grand Lake was like leaving family and friends. Our stay was relaxing, calming, and memorable. This is a keeper and we will be back!

They've recently updated all cabins and built a brand new one, that I cannot rave enough about. My 2 night stay there at the end of April was not enough. The view is beautiful, the cabin is just the right amount of quaintness with modern amenities. My husband and I stayed her for our wedding anniversary, I cannot wait to go back! VERY peaceful. The resort has a launch ramp and boat dock. They have ice available for purchase and can make recommendations on where to eat, things to do etc. So whether you want to just 'chill' on the lake, fish from shore or go on a lake excursion for your fishing, Longs has it all! Oh, and did I mention each cabin has a kitchen so you can 'eat in' and never have to leave the peacefulness of the resort?!?!?!?!?

People come here to relax, enjoy themselves, and get away from negativity--not to be treated like an inconvenience or made to feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, the negativity seems to extend beyond the occasional bad interaction. The attitude, lack of communication, and unfriendly treatment from the front desk workers, to the people running on golf carts, and so called "volunteers" create an environment that is completely toxic. If you are going to operate a business that depends on tourists, campers, and visitors spending their hard-earned money on your property, you need to understand that those people deserve to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Tourist are paying customers. They are contributing to your community by spending money at local stores, restaurants, and other places drawing revenue for the community you call home. They should not be treated like dirt simply because they are outsiders or visitors. And if the people working or volunteering here are unhappy with the lifestyle, the crowds, or the very nature of a property that attracts visitors, that frustration should not be taken out on the people who are paying to be here. You cannot build a tourism-based business and then resent the tourists. There is a certain irony in paying money to escape the negativity of everyday life, only to arrive somewhere that seems to create and reinforce that same negative energy. This place has been a solid choice for getting away from everyday life in the past, which makes the change in atmosphere even more disappointing. But if management wants people to continue choosing this property, I strongly suggest reconsidering the approach to customer service, communication, and how visitors are treated. People aren't asking for special treatment. We're asking for basic respect, courtesy, and a welcoming environment. That's not too much to expect from a business built around hospitality. We camped for 2 nights and recommend site 15, or the 3 spots closest to the river. But what the absolute best part was getting to watch Siloam Springs' 4th of July fireworks from the parking lot at the camp. I have 3 kids under 9 that are small enough to sit on a kayak with an adult. Most of the time my husband & I rent 3 kayaks, a $90 rental. On this occasion we had friends with their own kayaks floating and we decided to rent a tandem kayak instead, a $60 rental, and let 2 children ride with the friends. Upon arrival, I asked my husband to pull up to the stairs & drop me off so that I could check in. It's the bus turn around area, there appeared to be no other customers present except 1 other person in our party, my knee was killing me, and it wasnt a big deal. However, the young man driving the bus didnt think so and was quick to reprimand. I explained my husband was just dropping me with my injured knee off so I could check in. The young man with his super trooper shades then repeated himself and continues to tell me about it being the bus turn around and how we aren't supposed to drive there. It was a no harm, no foul situation and I really didn't feel I needed a lecture as my husband was just trying to help me avoid any extra knee pain. My first indication of the rudeness I was about to encounter. The owner Jerrid greeted me when I walked in the office. He tells me I had to pay the take out fees for my friends kayaks. Friends boats, not mine. I tried to call my friends but couldn't get through so I paid the fees for the boats that weren't mine, $15. Then he tells me each of my kids has a $20 shuttle fee adding up to $60. According to the website, this is the fee per person for shuttling boats, but now he is telling me its for shuttling 3 small kids, all less than 50lbs each, on a bus going 3.5 miles with their parents. We went from a $60 rental to $135 to cover my friends boats docking there and shuttle(bus) fees for 3 small kids without boats. I tried to explain that we had never had shuttle fees for my children & I felt at least one of them should be included in the $60 rental, as they had never charged me extra for shuttling them with 3 kayaks and I have ALWAYS been upfront about taking my kids. I mentioned the really nice blonde haired lady that worked the office in the past & how she knew the situation. Maybe that's what set him off, as I suggested she was his wife and he is divorced. Or maybe it was just that I wasn't willing to hand over $75 more to him on a slow, end of the season day bt this is when he began raising his voice & talking over me. He proceeded to tell me how I have been stealing from him if I had not paid his shuttle fees in the past. Lets call them bus fees as there was no boat shuttling involved here. I said I would have my friends at the kayak park come get my children, no big deal. He continued yelling at me and slamming things, not just in front of his children that were in the room but he followed me outside, slamming the doors in his establishment, and yelling at me in front of my children. He literally yelled that all I 'had to do was be kind'. He yelled it! Stop for a second a check yourself Jerrid. I wasn't treated with an ounce of kindness from the second we pulled in. Jerrid slammed the door of his office so hard that it was felt in the stairs on the other side and my family said you could see the windows shake. All because I wasn't willing to pay the excessive fees he presented & found a reasonable way to save $. He then tried to tell us to all get on the shuttle after having a temper tantrum about shuttle fees & me being a thief. As it turns out, my friends had already paid that $5/boat fee. Ironic bc he accused me of stealing from him. When informed, Jerrid threw cash at my friend & told him I wasn't welcomed back & he's going to "put my name in the computer". Jerrid you can put it in the computer, write it on a wall, sketch it in some stone, but there is no way I will EVER support your establishment again. He's clearly unstable. Jerrid & his staff have a lot to learn about being gracious to their customers.
