We recently purchased an awesome deal through "Living Social" with Dan Demetriad Studios - professional headshots for our two businesses. We couldn't have been more pleased with the results! The deal included professional make-up application, a photo shoot that lasted about 1.5 hours and included several clothing changes, a gallery of over 100 photos sent by email and put on CD, numerous professionally retouched photos and discounts for further photo opportunities. Since this was our first professional photo shoot and we didn't know what to expect, we asked Marcia by phone about tipping and other "protocols". She gave us helpful advice about makeup, clothing choices, as well as answering our questions and letting us know that tipping the makeup artist and photographer was acceptable. Dan Demetriad is a true professional and could not have been warmer during the photoshoot. He has an awesome library of music CD's that he allowed us to select for use during the shoot. We changed clothing three times during the shoot which gave us a great gallery of photos to choose from with different "looks". In between clothing changes, Dan even graciously showed us the photo gallery from previous shoot on his computer so that we could make adjustments to poses, expressions, etc. Following the photo shoot, we had the complete gallery of photos sent to us by email within 48 hours, and we received the CD with all photos promptly in the mail. Dan kept in contact with us by email, asking us to choose several of our favorite shots which he then "retouched" to make the photos look flawless. He even threw an extra retouched shot at no additional fee. In short we were extremely pleased with the process and the results. I called Dan when I was in a crunch; I needed a corporate headshot immediately and he was not only able to fit me in, but immediately following the photo shoot we sat down together, chose the ideal picture, he retouched it then and there, and I was able to email it to my company that afternoon. From the moment I walked in to the studio I felt immediately comfortable. First, the staff sat with me to ask me about what i wanted out of the photo shoot (they were very patient as I explained that I don't consider myself photogenic and so I knew it would be hard for me to come away with a photo I liked). I paid extra for the makeup application, which I was originally hesitant about, but it was TOTALLY WORTH IT (you should totally do it). The way the photos are taken, the professional makeup really makes a huge difference. And I figure, if you're already spending money and time for a great headshot, you may as well go all in. The photo shoot with Dan was delightful. He was patient, funny, kind, and he dealt with my 'non-model-esque' photo shoot qualities. He actually suggested a different outfit than the one I had originally chosen and he was SPOT ON. His outfit looked the BEST in the final photos and I ended up using it for my final photo. I actually couldn't believe how great I looked in the final photo. The entire experience, from start to finish, was enjoyable, fun, and I was totally satisfied. I've already recommended him to two of my friends who are attending Columbia Business School in the fall and they need corporate headshots. I am thoroughly impressed with Dan Demetriad's studio. As an occasional Groupon customer, I am used to being somewhat ill-treated when I arrive at a business (restaurants being the worse culprits) brandishing my printed-out discount; it's one of the problems with Groupon -- you often don't get the full experience and are treated like a second-class citizen. This could not have been further from the case with Dan, who not only is a first-rate photographer and retouching artist, but who also goes above and beyond to accommodate a client's wishes. My shoot was fantastic and fun (I am an actor and needed new headshots), and Dan retouched the photos I selected and sent them to me. The retouching was a bit heavier than I wanted (to be fair, I hadn't communicated to Dan exactly what I wanted). When I responded that I wasn't totally satisfied with the retouching, he offered to let me come in and sit with him and point out exactly what I wanted adjusted. I was already impressed by this offer, but was amazed when (as I was very picky about the retouching), Dan worked with me for nearly TWO HOURS until the images were exactly to my satisfaction. (It was also amazing simply to watch a photoshop master at work!) Dan is an exceptional photographer and a very sweet person -- and he also is extremely dedicated to making sure that his clients are happy with the result. I purchased a Groupon coupon and also purchased the hair and makeup. As an actress/singer/dancer for 40 years, I've had many head shots, and usually, in the days before photoshop, there was always a small problem with the makeup or hair that ruined every photo in the session. After the session, Dan picked one picture so that I would have at least one finished shot to go home with. (See photo with review.) It is, according to men on online dating sites, spellbindingly beautiful, stunning, etc. I've been accused of using someone else's picture, a really old picture. Unfortunately, for the casting business these days, they use more candid photos due to photoshop. I never did get around to picking the other 2 photographs I was entitled to. Dan's headshot was definitely one of the, if not the, best I've ever had. My makeup was flawless and my hair was styled in several different ways. Dan was a wonderful photographer and very nice person. (I believe I remember his ads from Backstage in the 1980s, so he's been around for decades.) At the age of almost 60, I discovered that I have naturally curly hair and need new photos and some body shots. I inadvertantly deleted a well written, personal review of my experience. It's gone. I thought, 'I'll just cut and paste from somebody else's review!' cause I'm a bit pissed at my technical difficulties....and then I read them! Every word is true. I seriously thought my experience was personalized, professional, caring, coordinated, planned, coached, guided, & mutual. Apparently this is the standard way this business operates. Dan & Kela are artists who love their work. They aren't in this for the money, like other photography studios. They amazingly work together to manage your two hours to your best advantage. We come into the studio unsure, and immediately began the journey that we showed up for. Dan & Kela work with you personally from the first moment they meet. Their telephone scheduler is also awesome. So in conclusion.....they say that pictures are worth 1000 words...I'll share my finished product with you! The first meeting on 07/31/19 My first appointment was canceled saying the elevator broke in the building. So I scheduled it a week later and the elevator was still not working. I arrived for my appointment on time and I had to wait for 45 minutes for my session to begin. Dan offered to edit 4 pictures of mine as opposed to regular 3 since I had to wait. I thought he was nice enough to do that. At the end of the session, he asked for a tip and I was having thoughts on whether to give or not since I already paid 75 $ + 7.10 tax. His attitude suddenly turns cold towards me and when he sent me the edited picture by the end of the night - the edited picture looks nothing like me. When asked about it, he replies " Is this instead of THANK YOU?" I don't think that's the way to talk to customers. If I was unhappy with your service, maybe you should listen to what I have to say. DoNOT use this place for professional headshots! Don't waste your money! An update: Dan later sent an email apologizing and edited 4 pictures of mine instead of the usual three according to the group on. One picture of the four edited pics were good. Rest all were ok. I'm a successful author and and speaker and also appear on many TV shows so having a good photo is very important for my career. I've been searching for a good photographer for MANY years and always hated the results. Then I got a coupon to try Dan. I was amazed at how he took his time and gave me such good directions for how to present myself to the camera, instead of using my a old poses. Despite my protests, I listened and he was right about it all. The hardest part was choosing the ones to use as they were all fabulous! My friends, who I asked for assistance in choosing agreed. My friend Sharon insisted that no one had ever taken a good picture of her. Then we met Dan. Sharon needed a formal black and white portrait that would hang, forever, on the wall of the club where she'd served as president. Luckily we found the rave reviews for Demetriad Studios on Yelp and took advantage of their amazing Groupon offer. Dan and his make up artist Kela are kind, welcoming, thoroughly professional and meticulous about their work. Kela used Dior cosmetics and the results were natural and beautiful. They suggested two wardrobe options and helped with styling. Dan's lighting was masterful and his direction helped Sharon relax. The result was an image that captured, not just her likeness, but her liveliness, intelligence and charm. The choice Dan gave us was even more than we'd expected. Color as well as black and white. He invited us to the retouching session and it was amazing to watch him work. He was responsive to our comments and he enhanced the image without making it "glossy". The portrait is lovely. I purchased a Groupon and got way more than I expected. Dan is a true professional and very passionate about his work as a photographer. The first time he suggested (optional) I get make up so my photos can come out better I turned it down, I didn't want to spend extra money and being a man i felt it to be taboo. After a great shoot with several looks, Dan sat down with me and explained why I should consider the make up service next time. He was very patient and informative, even giving me tips as to how to pose and where my photos could be used most effectively. long story short I learned when a veteran professional suggests ways for your pictures to look better, you take that valuable tip and go with it. I recently did another shoot with Dan and took his advice and got the make up service from the awesome make up artist Kela. while my first session photos with Dan were nice it paled in comparison to the photos of the recent shoot. I was recommended to Dan Demetriad by a business associate and I am so glad he guided me Dan's way. I am a business executive who was in need of a updated head shot. What I noticed immediately from Dan and his associate Marcia was the ease they put me in (not brusk and eager to get the job finished as with past NYC studios) - asking me what type of music I wanted to listen to - being a lover of classical music I said "How about some Sibelius?" and low behold he said "we have the 2nd and 5th Symphonies" - we were off to a good start! My daughter & I had the great pleasure of meeting Dan. Dan is probably one of the best, talented/gifted photographers I've met. Not only this...he is down to earth...simple, honest man. I am very pleased with the recent experience my son and I had at Dan Demetriad Studios. Since this was our very first time to be photographed by a professional, we had no idea what to expect. The warm welcome we received from Dan and Marcia when we arrived at the studio put us at ease right away. Dan guided us through the hour of photo shooting and after about 100 pictures we were able to see immediately how each one turned out. An e-mail with all the images followed within a day. We selected the pictures we wanted developed and the ones we wanted on a CD. When we received the finished product, we were thrilled with the end result. Dan Demetriad is the best photographer in town (and NYC is one big town!). In addition to taking fantastic photographs, he takes the time to establish a professional relationship with the subject and then allows the space for the photograph to be taken. He shoots endlessly until he is satisfied that he has several pictures that you will like. I never felt rushed or pressured, and this was evident in the results. I received the proofs within a few days, indicated my favorites after Dan gave me a few tips for selecting them, and then was sent the best photographs that have ever been taken of me. I can only add my rave reviews to all the others posted! I had a great experience. Dan is so professional and engaging that you are instantly assured of coming out with terrific photos. Most important, he listens to you and your needs and then goes the extra mile to make sure you are happy with the outcome. He was very patient and even re-did the retouching with me present when I felt I looked too good and would not live up to my own photos! I never felt rushed during any of the meetings. I might add that I came through a Groupon offer for head shots with 3 retouched images, so I had deep reservations as to the quality. New Yorkers are used to being conned. I went here to get my first set of headshots done, and Dan and Marcia are INCREDIBLY warm, honest, hardworking people who care about the work they produce, the welcoming atmosphere in the studio, and how I felt when I left. Dan was a wonderful photographer, who helped me to feel at ease with presenting myself to the camera. Marcia and I bonded over a common interest and shared a few laughs. Dan even offered to retouch a few images of mine. I used a Living Social deal and COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! After seeing this studio mentioned for a few years I took the plunge and am very glad I did. The pictures are just what I needed for acting headshots. Dan, the photographer, listened patiently to what kind of "look" I was going for and he and Kela, the makeup artist, set about helping me achieve that look. Turnaround time was very quick and the touchups were excellent. I suggest in general, as with any photographer, that you take the time to explain what you want/need in detail. I looked at my old pics and tried to figure out what I wanted different for this time. I really think it made a difference because it made for less guesswork and potential disappointment. This was my first time doing session photography and I had an excellent experience at this studio. Starting from the first phone call to the final deliverables, Dan set expectations perfectly along the way as to what to expect. He was patient communicative and thorough throughout the process. From conversations I understood that he has been a photographer for 45+ years and his experience shows in manners and methods. For the shoot, he took his time to understand what I wanted the photographs for and then guided me on methods for how I can come off as more open, confident, comfortable etc- I am not very good with getting photos taken of myself but Dan put me at ease. I had a great experience with Dan and Kela at Demetriad Studios. I arrived a little late to the appointment after there were some last minute schedule changes but they were very professional, appreciative and courteous. Kela was especially warm and charming. She did the make up for me and we had a nice chat all the while. Because I was in such a rush to get to the studio, I stuffed my clothes in my bag and it was all crumpled. Dan and Kela broke out the magic spray and helped me get myself situated in that regard. The photo session went very well with great suggestions from Dan on looks and poses for the camera so I'm very excited to get my retouched photos back!
