It's almost surprising to me how many people in Glen Rock have no idea that this hidden oasis…read moreexists, but alas it does, and it's abundance of wildlife and beauty still manage to take my breath every time I visit. Tucked off of Doremus Ave., just short of the pool is a woodchip lined walkway that will guide you through a path of wonder to the beautifully maintained and manicured arboretum. Surrounding the fountained pond are countless types of flowers and trees all with placards identifying the species and from where they were derived, a large gazebo sits atop a brick paved walk much of which is engraved with donors of the parks mission of preservation and conservation. The park is maintained by The Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum, and have a myriad of volunteer opportunities that many of the local schools and residents partake in. Most recently they've begun developing plans for an environmental center which will provide educational resourcing to the town. This is a spectacular community gem that has been a mainstay since the early 1900s, and there's good reason for it...visit, and you'll know why.

The trail is paved and next to the stream, parallel with Paramus Ave. It goes through Glen Rock, Paramus, Fair Lawn and Rochelle Park. It splits in a few areas and there's a few different entry points and parks along the way. The path could be busy. I think most the walkers are annoyed at the bike riders for passing them by quickly, but the riders are annoyed at the walkers for taking up space and not staying to the right. In the map, you can see where the trails splits and can take the alternate path. It was great for a bike ride, except I walked it in a few areas and hopefully I don't get poison ivy. There were baseball fields, basketball courts, pavilions and an abandoned tennis court. There was a waterfall, a lookout tower and a building from the 1800's. The underpasses/bridges were nicely boarded and the trail is very clean. This park is very basic. There was nothing extraordinary about it. I think if your in the area and it's convenient to walk or ride through, it's nice, but it's not worth going out of your way.

Enter via steps off the main street or streets off the triangle on either side.. There's usually something fun going on here during the summer months - free concerts, events, and movies during the summer. I've caught glimpses of The Life of Pi and various other "movies under the stars". During the fall, it's a great place to come and bring a blanket ... and perhaps a sweetheart. I've even seen people with a clandestine bottle of wine. (*ahem* not that I would ever do that) It's popular with families, in particular. It's a calm and serene oasis to come and relax during the day or early evening. Overall - it's a park with heart. Recommend!

Apart also planted some trees for the dogs to enjoy and offer some shade. And, if you're a resident of the county, then you'll clearly know that no playground compares to Van Saun's, but this park's playground is relatively larger than most and quite clean. On our most recent visit on a super gorgeous Spring Saturday afternoon, it was busy, but not overly crowded. Besides the pond and playground, there are multiple picnic tables on the park grounds for those looking to have a nice picnic or small gathering. Like I said, it's one of the nicer parks and playgrounds in the area and worth the trip if you're looking for a low-key, yet nice playground for your kids to play at.

It was warm and I'd much rather skip a spinning class to take in nature instead. There were families, dog walkers, joggers and bikers all enjoying spring. Quite a few deer were wondering around. Plenty of birds, most notably very large redheaded woodpecker making a terrible racket. Just kidding, I really enjoyed watching him poke for bugs. This park is a long stretch of greenway following both sides of a creek. There are mile markers that take you through different towns. I think I only did about a mile and a half of it, but I'm looking forward to coming back now that it's warmer, and exploring the different bridges and trails.

One of them is used for soccer and there's also a tennis court. I saw some weird court that had some structures on it that I have no idea what it's used for. There's a pavilion and a jungle gym for kids as well. There's a bike trail if you don't mind riding up hill, you will be rewarded on the way down when it's time to leave and get to ride down. There's a trail in the surrounding woods as well. On one side, there's a view into the quarry and on the other side a view of the city. And if you're at the park and we get invaded, no worries there is a tank occupying the high grounds as well.

Water is as clean as it could be considering it is a pond. Pool closes for the season on Labor day. Most if all other town pools stay open at least for another two weeks on weekends. Pool opens a week after Memorial day....most if not all other pools open on or before Memorial day.
