I heard thru the grapevine that upaws was going to have some puppies to adopt. Bare in mind I live over 100 miles away from the adoption location. So I called to see what the adoption policies where. They stated over the phone. First come first serve to keep checking the website and once the puppies were available for adoption they would be up on the website. I diligently checked for several weeks. Finally one evening after checking the puppies were there. I awoke the next morning before dawn to drive the 100 miles along with my $200 plus adoption fee to go get my puppy assuming I would be one of the first to arrive. Well low and behold I get to the location the puppies are on site but I am told I can not adopt them because Upaws was holding a special adoption event? I was there. Application filled out in hand with money. Puppies there. So I was told I had to go to Fox motors in Marquette to get a puppy and fox motors was paying all the adoption fees. Bad policy. Your giving away dogs to people that can not afford a fee let alone going thru any type of proper screening to see if they have the resources. I proper family with enough space to take care of said pet. As I get to Fox motors. There are several people mostly young kids waiting in line for the puppies. Come to find out one of them is related to a volunteer that works at Upaws and another one who was related to the foster home that had the puppies to begin. Both young kids. One couple took home two of the dogs even thou upaws says they did not allow that. Another took home one of the puppies for his mother who could not be there due to work. After several hours of driving to multiple locations and speaking to people at Fox motors and this woman named Ann who is the community outreach coordinator. I was told I could not get one of the puppies and it was first come first serve. Even thou I was not told about any special adoption event and the people getting the puppies had prior Knowledge to the puppies and the event due to connections within upaws. To say the least their adoption policies are a joke. I am all for pet adoption, but I was misinformed, given the run around and treated unfair and unkindly by this non profit organization. They should have stricter policies on who should be allowed to adopt. And fees should not be waved. To ensure that animals are going to the best homes who can afford care. Very disappointed and I will never support this event nor will I allow any company I am a part of donate or support this agency. I tried reaching the board to complain. But after months of no response have decided this is my only option to let people know this non profit company is a sham.

The shelter thought my mom was my landlord! Wrong I currently live with my mom so hell can she be my landlord when she is my caregiver. Point no two a neighbor's belated spouse used to volunteer there and saw they treat the people with less income! Like trash or nuclear waste and they don't even give them a chance to prove that they can take care of a pet. In my case that is exactly the case. I was denied and given no reason. By the way your main goal as a shelter is to make sure a pet has a forever home. You scored an F- in my book. You should also not be asking for people's income that is private and personal information and you don't need to know that. My only wish for you is that someone else takes over this facility and they do better than you have done so far.

While Pet Supplies Plus didn't carry the same selections I learned we were able to order and can now ensure we have a good supply of pet food. I appreciate the time and efforts of this store's team.
