They do really good work. Recently brought my G37 and got the transmission rebuilt. Shifts like butter now, good work for a good price.

I took my 1953 Buick Super over to Mundelein Automotive. My steering felt "loose". Rob and Rick…read morechecked everything out for me and made an adjustment to the steering box worm gear. The steering doesn't feel as loose as it did. Rob assured me that these classics all have some play in the wheel. I just found my new mechanics! I would recommend them to anyone looking for prompt, friendly service for new or classic cars.

An oil-filter gasket blew out on my car, and I had Mundelein Automotive evaluate it since it…read moreoccurred just down the block from them. I have come to learn an event like that (rather clearly) points to a faulty oil-pressure regulator/relief valve or related oil pump issue--not just a loose or improperly installed filter as they advised me. And they advised me as such despite the fact the filter was installed nearly 6 months ago and had been just fine with no leaks. They simply blamed it on my usual mechanic for somehow "crushing" the gasket during installation at my last oil change, even though it would be nearly impossible for a filter to contain oil pressure for that long (if at all) if the gasket was somehow pushed outside of its groove during install. Every other mechanic I've discussed this with as I shopped around for engine replacement quotes has said as much, that this was obviously the result of an oil pressure spike caused by a faulty oil pump / pressure release valve, and warranted a far more thorough inspection beyond degreasing the engine bay and replacing the filter. Mundelein Automotive did not perform (or explain) a hot mechanical oil-pressure test, did not caution me against driving until pressure was verified, and did not advise checks for timing correlation/chain tensioner health that depend on proper oil pressure. The timing chain tensioner, along with other critical engine components, are hydraulically operated. And if they don't get proper oil pressure, the engine can (and did) self-destruct. I was told it was fine to continue driving. Result: The car drove okay until suddenly after ~150-200 miles when the engine rapidly went from a light tick to harsh clunking while on the expressway, and then failed. I'm now facing an engine replacement. Why this matters: A reasonable diagnostic path here would have included (1) verifying actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, (2) confirming correct oil-filter spec and ruling out a stuck pressure-relief valve, and (3) listening/scanning for early timing-chain correlation faults. At a minimum, I should have been clearly warned not to drive until oil pressure was verified. None of that happened for me. Bottom line: Friendly people, but in my case the critical diagnostics and communication fell short, and I paid the price. I won't be back, and I can't recommend them at all. Their substandard expertise and attention to detail has resulted in me being out the cost of installing an entirely new engine.

I brought my car in Saturday afternoon. It didn't take them too long to do the basic oil change,…read morebut after I drove off the car started smoking like crazy. Later that day it started idling roughly and shaking pretty noticeably. As I was pressed for time and had a huge number of errands to run, I wasn't able to loop back to the facility. However, the next morning, I checked my own oil and the color was extremely dark. The smoking had absolutely not improved, in fact it had become worse, and the car is now visibly shaking. None of these problems existed prior to me getting this oil change at this location. These guys really screwed up and I need to have them tow my car in so that they can repair it before the engine seizes up and essentially destroys itself. The largest issue is I live an hour away. This is beyond inconvenience and expensive for such a simple, routine service.

I came for an oil change this morning. The manager (or…read moreservice advisor?), Diondre Griffin, was a friendly guy. The wait was a little excessive (they checked everything, no problem), but I was not in a hurry, so that was OK, but the mechanic lost an engine air filter cover screw and never said a word, and he couldn't just miss it, because I saw him removing and holding my air filter and putting it back. I came home, looked under the hood, quickly discovered that, and rushed back (1-2 minutes away). They replaced the screw, but what surprised me was that Diondre argued that "it was only the screw"; he couldn't get it: THE PROBLEM WAS NOT A SCREW BUT INTEGRITY AND DECENCY. If "it's only a screw", then just say it and don't leave it missing and let me go (I mean the mechanic) and don't argue but just say "Sorry" and talk to type mechanic later. It's Services and people like this that make us verify, check and mistrust. And, BTW, I specifically asked Diondro To make sure they do not overfill the oil, but this was a small problem compared to integrity.
