I wasn't sure what to expect. I will say it's better than I anticipated…read more The set up seems pretty efficient really. You land and enter on one side of the airport and arrive, enter, and depart from the other. This makes things pretty easy for customs and such. There are three terminals now and another one is being constructed as I type this review. Our driver told us all about it on the way back. Very chatty dude! I had been warned about all of the predatory tactics by the taxi and ride folks outside so I was prepared and not bothered by them. If you come here, take note of this. You can and will get scammed if you allow yourself to become a victim. Luckily we had prearranged the rides and were looking for very specific attire as well as signs for us to find. Just note this as others have said over and over. I will say it again for those in the back! There are tons of people waiting out front trying to get you to use their services. Those services vary a great deal in scammy/usefulness/end up dead in a ditch. Don't do the last one. No Bueno. My departure was interesting as we did not know what gate we were going to until about 10 minutes before boarding. Luckily the place is not that big so it was not an issue. We got there a couple hours early when we were leaving. There is plenty to do and lots to see while here. Have no fear! Consumerism is alive and well in Cancun Mexico! The whole place runs on it! Margaritaville is always a good time if you partake in the libations. They have a Guy Firebird or whatever there too. The duty free is only a deal because of reduced taxation. I found the items to be slightly higher than normal retail, at least for liquor. All in all it did what I needed it to do. Fly in, fly out, not get searched on the way in, or the way out. Not sure if I will come back to Cancun or not. I may have had my fill. We will see if I can score another 100% paid vacation next year for work! If so, I will see you again Amigos!! If not, it will be ok! ;) '26 - 51

Arriving at this airport was a straightforward process as well as going through immigration. Our…read moreluggage took longer than expected and they had 3 flights scheduled for the same belt. That resulted in an overcrowded situation and a long wait to get our suitcases. I realized when I arrived to my hotel that my suitcase was opened at some point but nothing was taken. Exiting the airport will face you with tons of people trying to sell you tours or other services They will ask you questions or attempt to walk you to their desk. I personally just kept on walking as I knew my transfer was outside. If you have a transfer scheduled, you might want to find out the number where they will be located as they have over 60 different areas or numbers where you can find your transfer as well as many people trying to offer you a taxi and other services. Some drivers may be waiting with a signbut just be aware ofnhow to locate your transfer before you arrive as you might be bombarded by people attempting to help you. Checking in with Jetblue was very similar to the process in places like Boston where you print your boarding pass and drop off your luggage. Except they added zip ties to our luggage in Cancun. They were in place when we got to our final destination. Our terminal had many food and souvenir options available. As usual, expect to pay more for items at airports but that's the same everywhere. Gates are announced about an hour prior to departure so you might wait around at a central location until they are announced. In our case, the boarding gate printed on our ticket was not listed on the screen once we entered the gate area. We received a gate change text and saw a gate announcement on the screen an hour before departure as they don't make many intercom announcements. So don't trust your ticket and check an hour before for gate confirmation.

Just don't stop to talk to anyone before you exit. Baggage claim was good. We probably waited about 20/30 minutes. Leaving Cancun... Porters were available if you need them upon arriving to the airport. (Please tip them if you use them) He took care of our baggage until we got to the counter. Once inside the airport was easy to find your airline and on this occasion southwest had plenty of agents checking passengers and the process was smooth and heading to TSA screening was also a breeze. We had no lines. We traveled on a weekday (Wednesday) about 10:30am this airport is pretty modern and have plenty places to eat and shop. There is no announcements or flights status. You need to check the screen or your phone for updates/change. Your flight will appear on the screen within one hour from boarding. So this makes the airport pretty quiet compared to the USA airports. Bathroom was clean and had somebody attending the bathroom. The gates are good size and chairs are comfortable! As on any airport, buying water or any snacks are very pricey. Highly recommend this airport for traveling to/from Cancun,MX.

Personally, I always pick Air Margaritaville because the service is dependable and the food is decent. There is also a Bubba Gump's and more. There are places to buy snacks for your flight. There are "duty free" mega stores with everything you can think of. There is a shoe store! There is even a Ray-Ban store with crazy prices (think Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer sunglasses Gen 1 for $700 when Sunglasses Hut USA retails them for under $299). There are lots of Mexican souvenir shops, but also with crazy prices. Tshirts were in the $32-$42 range. Even fridge magnets are $7+. There is ALWAYS a line for restrooms. I didn't care to eat at restaurants that I could eat at home. Chairs at the gates are hard plastic so not very comfy when you think that you're getting on an international flight in a few hours. Watch out for the "interviewers" there. They act like they're in an official role, and maybe they are but literally they're walking up to random people and asking about where they stayed, where they're going, for their boarding pass and passport, and other personal questions. I can't believe people actually hand over their documents, fully in possession of some stranger in the open. They have nothing in hand to record or aggregate responses. Yeah, no thanks. Just walk away. My personal info stays that way.

Good evening. I'm reaching out because of an extremely poor experience I had with the manager at…read moreHertz rental at the Cancún international airport location. My reservation L50305859C7, was booked to be picked up on April 2. While I was on my flight to the destination, our plane had to make an emergency landing which caused us to miss our connecting flight outside of my control. I called hertz corporate number and informed them of the situation and they informed me that they would notate it on my account so that my reservation would remain the same and I would just pick up at the airport 1 day late. When I arrived in Cancun on the morning of April 3rd, I explained the above information to the receptionist. They called the manager who said they would resolve it and just said to get on the shuttle and come to the hertz office. When I got there, I explained the above-mentioned details to the clerk who stated my reservation was in the process of cancelling and I could only start a new reservation: at 7 times the original booked rate. I asked to speak to a manager; a taller gentleman in his early 40s. He became immediately dismissive and said there was nothing he could do for me and began acting extremely rude and unprofessional. He then became rude and dismissive to my pregnant wife who was standing there with my 6 and 8 year old children. When I called him out on that he immediately became PHYSICALLY defensive and walked around the counter getting in my face in a manner as if he wanted to FIGHT me. All of this was in front of my pregnant wife who was sobbing and my children who were also crying at this point. He then had to be PHYSICALLY RESTRAINED by his co-workers. When I asked for his name he covered his badge and refused to show me. He was a larger Hispanic male with short hair in his 40s. My wife and children and I then left on foot to walk to find a different rental car company. I am absolutely disgusted with the lack of professionalism demonstrated by this "MANAGER". As a professional who works in law enforcement, I was appalled by his behavior. Stay away from this company.

Having finally given up any hope of a positive resolution, I'm posting online about my experience…read morebeing scammed at this Hertz location in the hopes that it will at least help steer others away from here. Here's how it works. You make your reservation online (in our case, we were pleased to reserve an SUV for 15 days for under $800, which seemed like an amazing deal). I had read on various forums that we should book directly with a local company, but I ended up deciding that it was worth it to go with one of the bigger name companies in case anything went wrong. It was a mistake. Once you show up to pick up your rental, one of two things happen. If you're lucky (like my Dad was, who was picking up at the same time as me), everything goes smoothly and you get your rental without any issue. If you're unlucky, they tell you that it is "illegal to rent a car without additional insurance" and tell you that you owe an additional $500+ on top of the $800 reservation, and that they will not give you a car unless you pay for this insurance. Not sure how you end up in one category or the other. It may be luck of the draw - maybe my Dad just ended up with an honest person checking him in, while I randomly ended up with the scammer. More likely, they saw that I was exhausted from a long day of travel with three young children and correctly recognized that I wouldn't put up too much of a fight, and also wouldn't call their bluff and just go to another rental agency. From subsequently reading about this scam on message boards, it sounds like if you really stand your ground and fight back, they will eventually give up and let you have the car for the price you reserved it for, but it can sometimes take hours and I definitely didn't have the capacity for that. Also, if you're thinking "my credit card provides rental car coverage", that's not going to help you. They just tell you that you can't have the car without paying additional money. Pointing out that my father wasn't required to pay the additional fee didn't make any difference (and honestly we didn't want to push too hard on that because we were glad he wasn't a victim of the same scam!) If this happens to you, you'll reach out immediately to Hertz customer service, but they will tell you there is nothing they can do until after the rental is completed, and to ask the Hertz staff about it when you drop the car off. You will follow instruction and ask the staff about the situation when you drop the car off. They will be very sympathetic and agree that what happened to you was wrong, but they will say they can't help you and you'll need to reach out to Hertz directly to resolve things. So, you'll reach out to Hertz. If you're like me, you will spend 4-5 months speaking to dozens of different customer service representatives trying to get someone to understand and care, but it will ultimately be for naught. Most of these reps were very kind, but they all said the same thing: "We spoke to the location, they said you agreed to the extra insurance, so there is nothing we can do". The fact that I was aggressively forced into signing for this insurance under threat of having my rental taken away did not seem to matter to any of these people. If you're thinking "but I have status with Hertz, I'm sure it will be different for me", I regret to inform you that my President's Circle status made no difference in any of this. So, five months after being scammed out of $500, I'm finally giving up and admitting defeat. My final act is to post my account of this experience on the internet in the hopes that it might save others from the same fate! I wish I had done more research in advance, as stories about this specific scam are all over the internet now that I know what to look for. I'm mostly disappointed in Hertz as a company for allowing this sort of thing to happen, and refusing to believe me or do anything to make things right despite literally dozens of emails that I've sent to different customer support members.

We already had full auto coverage, Visa's rental insurance, and we also purchased a rental protection plan at booking. The total was $319.18, including $136.40 for the car rental, $61.78 in taxes, and $121.00 for rental insurance. When we arrived at the Budget counter in Cancún, the line of customers stretched out the door even though only six people were waiting to pick up vehicles. Despite having four counters open, it took nearly an hour to reach an agent. The delay was caused by constant disputes: every customer ahead of us was arguing with staff about a clear bait‑and‑switch, and many were visibly upset and raising their voices. After about 40 minutes, I asked my wife to hold our place in line and walked to a neighboring rental agency. An employee there urged us to rent from them instead, warning that Budget would try to charge us around $800. I explained that we already had a confirmed reservation for much less, so we decided to wait and see what Budget would do. When we finally reached the counter, the Budget representative told us we were required to buy their insurance or they would not release the car. We explained the multiple layers of coverage we already had, but he insisted it was not acceptable and presented a total of approximately $790. At that moment, it became clear why every customer before us was so angry. We objected and told him we could easily call for a ride and rent elsewhere for less. The agent said he needed to speak with his manager to "see what he could do." After about five minutes in the back room, he returned with a "best offer" of $669.08--still more than double our original confirmed price. He also confided that he had raised concerns with his manager about these practices but had been ignored. Save yourself the frustration, wasted time, and unexpected charges: do not rent from this Budget location at Cancún Airport.
