All the Barbers are TOP NOTCH! I've never had a BAD haircut. Been actively coming to this Barbershop for 40++ years! They are the best! Since moving to LA, I still make the drive down to little Escondido to get my haircut here. They're consistent and their service is 5 ! read more

Great barber shop. Old school style. Been going there about 3 years. Last visit I was humiliated because I couldn't remember the barbers name. Just went through my first round of chemo for leukemia. I could barely get to the barbershop. I will not go back. read more

Three of the four barbers who work here are great. They seem to give really good haircuts and they are classy gents. Unfortunately the forth barber is a senile old man, the bald shorter rounder guy. He is constantly screaming nonsense at the top of his lungs and forcing everyone to laugh uncomfortably about it. Every customer tries to avoid him and wait for another barber, meaning he's often the one available who you will get a haircut with when you walk in. It's walk-in only too so there's no way to avoid a cut from him without awkwardly rejecting it to his face. He's given me 3 terrible low effort haircuts that look like they where done by an 11 year old. He takes phone calls and random breaks during these shitty haircuts and just leaves you sitting there waiting. Each cut I had to point out major issues with the haircut and politely explain its not what I asked for. Each time he blamed me and my instructions. One appointment: "you should have asked for high and tight!", the next I ask for high and tight, "You should have said all the way to the hairline!". Then he reluctantly fixes his mistake. If that one guy didn't work there the place would be 5 stars but the cuts I've received from him are unacceptable and he completely kills the vibe. read more

Josh cuts my hair and he does a fantastic job. Friendly and welcoming. Would recommend them all.

No appointment on a Thursday afternoon.. only waited about ten minutes. Second time here and so glad we came. The gentlemen that work here are truly gentlemen in a world today with so few left, it seems. Thank you so much! read more

Great to be back in the chair at Del's on my quick trip to San Diego. Josh gave a great cut. Check them out if you're in need of a good men's haircut (and straight razor shave around the edges). The best. read more

Went in to see if they cut women's hair. They said; not usually. I told them I wanted a man's cut. So they said; "sure". Waited about 20 minutes and I hope I have the right name...Josh gave me exactly what I wanted! They only charge $25 a cut which includes this massage by hand held device! They only take cash or checks. Since I had neither they trusted me to come back with $. Don't forget to double down on tipping since it's so inexpensive for cut. I was used to paying $60 with a $20 tip. Not anymore read more

I like the friendly atmosphere in the old style business. Also haircuts are very good

The best talented barber's you will ever find! I've been coming to Del's ever since I was a kid in elementary. My wife loves bringing our kids here. Most friendly/family environment where everyone greets you with a smile every time. Nobody works harder than these groups of men who have far more experience than any other shop you could find. Trust me.. once you have been to Del's, you won't want to go anywhere else. read more

Great Group of Gentleman., All are equally capable of delivering a stellar haircut for a seriously beyond reasonable price. There is not a chair there that I'm fearful of getting in-to. Well., one of the chairs I do close my eyes during the single-manned-procession that occurs. I'm always stunned and amazed by the facts that I hear and the final outcome in quality is second to none. The wait, is never long and the brevity in the room passes the time even if you sit w/ a buttoned lip. Del's delivers and so should You, remember these guys have Lives & Wives & Family and they are going out of their way to make You look good. Try and at least meet them in the middle w/ your tip. If Things are going well for You Double_Down. What, You can't afford to tip $20.00 on a $22.00 dollar haircut that'll last you 3-4 weeks. That's like $1.46 a day but You pay it up front. Don't be so cheap, with your head. It's the only 1 that you got. read more

Del's Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Escondido, California

This was my second time to Del's barber shop, the first was 25 years ago with my uncle. I can honestly say, not a heck of a lot has changed, some might call it retro, but it can't be retro if it's always been that way. It's now run by Jason, grandson to Del, and a self proclaimed liar (more on that in a minute). The small shop is staffed with four barbers with a combined barber experience of over 100 years. As you've probably read in other reviews, it's best to prepare for a wait, but the wait can be fascinating. There are four distinct conversations going on at the same time that occasionally merge into one when the subject veers into sports. This is the old school kind of barber shop with walls covered in sports memorabilia and mirrors all around for a good view of what's going on. There's even an old style barber pole, altho it doesn't spin. Every cut is $25, the conversation is free. So about Jason being a liar, his words not mine. It all comes from the way he answers the phone (he's the owner and closest to the phone stand). People will often call to see how long the wait is, Jason will never tell you it's longer than 20 minutes, even if the waiting area is standing room at that point. It was a trick his father taught him about human nature and he's used it ever since. Other than that, I found Jason to be a good talker and a great barber. Del's Barber Shop has been a local spot since 1959, and in it's current location since 1981 (they bought the building so they're not going anywhere). PRO TIP: If you call to ask about how long the wait is, and the voice on the other end of the line says, "20 minutes" be prepared to wait for your chance in one of Del's chairs. Highly Recommended. read more

Went in to fix a haircut and the result was amazing. Very professional, service oriented and great prices compared to other shops. I will definently be returning. 5/5 read more

Was sitting down waiting for service while listening to the employee talk about politics and then making a joke about cops as they drove by. Why would I continue to sit and listen to this? The service/wait time is slow and keep politics out of your business. I really hope that the rest of the employees don't bad mouth like this guy does. read more

Excellent work, Very Friendly staff , I felt welcome and appreciated Will see you guys again soon read more

First time there, because of my friend Cree's advice and that I should ask for Jason. The place was busy for being in compliance, and the other Barbers were friendly and they all made it a blast to be in. Jason is great and he does take care of you, with a smile and with a very professional approach. I say go here to get your haircut. Support your Barbers. read more

Great experience! It is like stepping back in time in customer service, friendliness and quality. We have been paying $40-50 at other places trying to find a good haircut for my son. For a much cheaper price and quicker service, my son was in and out looking good for his homecoming dance. Plus, I love supporting a family business (even better that this is multigenerational). We will be back! read more

Busy place so plan for a wait. 4 barbers with personality. Every cut that I have had was on point. No complaints at all. Fun place to get your hair cut. read more

Got a haircut from Jim today. He was sneezing and coughing during the cut with a runny nose, wiping his nose with his hand and then adjusting my hair. Had to take a shower after I left this place. Should have left during the haircut. Especially with the pandemic you gotta know when to call in sick man. Disgusting. read more

Never write reviews but this place gave me bad vibes. as soon as I walked in some dude in his late 30''s slicked black hair approached me and gave me the dirtiest look asking if I need a cut. I proceeded to explain to him how I wanted the haircut, during this time I was standing up in front of the mirror trying to explain it to him, during the time he demanded I sit down around 5 times as if I didn't listen the first time, I was just explaining it to him before I sat down. The whole time gave me a terrible attitude and the dirtiest looks. Also the place looks like a butcher shop Would not recommend read more

Came back to Del's for a cut and beard trim. It was very crowded when I arrived, mostly kids, but about 7 people waiting. They work quick and provide great quality and the banter here is top notch. Good guys doing great cuts and they were all so friendly with the kids, can tell why kids make up a chunk of their clientele. Still the best prices I've seen for the quality in San Diego. read more

Great and inexpensive alternative to other Barbershops that are in the region. They do take cash only instead of credit or ApplePay, but the staff are great and the atmosphere is a classic example of barbershops of old. read more

The best customer service I have experienced by a barbershop and a group of professional gentlemen. Jason kept a great conversation flowing, while masterfully handling my haircut. The barbershop's aura is full of baseball memorabilia, great music, and clean instruments all around. They have gained a regular customer from now until I leave California. It is also reasonably priced, military friendly, and the parking situation is ideal. read more

Very cool spot to get an overpriced haircut. I tried to get a haircut here two different times, once I waited over 40mins, no one said a word to me, as if I was supposed to know how daily operations here at Del's ran. The haircuts run at around $22ish and you get to waste an hour just waiting for them to get to you. I understand this is an iconic barbershop of Escondidio and that it appeared on tv but what the heck, time is money. I gave this place five stars because I never stuck around long enough to get a haircut from one of these barbers. So I'm not really sure as to what the quality of their intended service is like. Plus everyone else seemed to like them. read more

It was my first time there today. I don't take the time to write reviews very often but this place deserves it. Had a great experience overall and an amazing haircut at the end. Great classic old school barbershop. The barbers are very friendly, social and have a great sense of humor.

Meh, asked for a specific blade length I've been getting the same fade haircut for years and could tell he used a longer blade. Also trimming my sideburns got so caught up talking to the other barbers he forgot to trim the other side and had to remind him as we finished. Lots of talk about politics, guns and crime by immigrants and stuff like that by both staff and patrons. Agree or disagree with the point of view it's just weird to talk about stuff that could alienate half the customers who walk in the door or who don't want to talk about politics. Just keep it sports and weather and you'll be better off. read more

We have been taking my son to Del's since he first grew hair. My husband won't let anyone but Al cut his hair. It feels as though you're stepping back in time and being treated to the hospitality & family feel that only exists in small towns. For example,... Epic parent fail both our phone's died (mom & dad's) just before his first haircut. Al documented it all on his own camera and immediately emailed us the file (of about 100 pictures). read more

I was visiting family in Escondido and was getting pretty ragged so I googled and Yelp'd Barbers near me. Fortunately for me, I chose Del's Barbershop because of the great HC reviews and the environment described. Rookie mistake, I didn't take in cash but no worries, Jason took care of me anyway. It was really cool talking with all the guys there and nobody was offended by anything that was discussed. So, if you want a real barbershop for a great haircut and cool conversation, this is the place to go. Support local businesses!!!! read more
