Blink and you'll miss one of the greatest food opportunities in central London: Delitaly. Just on the outskirts of Convent Garden, the Italian delicatessen caught my attention when (whilst feeling rather Peckish) I strolled by and happen to notice the inviting batch of pastries and other sweet things in the window.
Being a huge fan of all things Italian in the world of food, I was momentarily in heaven in this tidy little deli. Delitaly has an abundant range of meats, sauces, rare pastas including: slow cooked orecchiette; torchietti; and an exciting blood red paglia e fieno I couldn't wait to get my hands on; amongst other liquors, sweets, and appetisers. I must confess though, that it is a little bit out of conventional price range; this is the kind of food you don't really need to stock up on, but would perhaps buy for a special occasion.
After having a quick conversation with the shop assistant about which sauces he felt would go best with which kind of pastas, I bought a superb panini (although I was a touch disappointed to find they had used English mozzarella); and who can resist a fine shot of true Italian espresso (often mispronounced "expresso") before setting off on a cold winter's morning. read more
