I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Chen and this dental office! From the very beginning, Dr. Chen has taken the time to keep me informed, explain everything clearly, and give me the correct steps to completely turn my oral hygiene around. I came in needing improvement, and I truly feel like I'm on the right path toward having healthy, amazing oral hygiene. Dr. John Lee was incredible & amazing & sweet with squeezing me in to do all 4 quadrants a deep cleaning & the way he took his time & explained everything, gave me some good pointers to make sure I'm keeping up with the best oral hygiene as well! Dr. Chen has also been preparing me for my upcoming laser gum surgery next year, and I feel confident knowing that I'm in good hands. I really appreciate how thorough, knowledgeable, and attentive she has been throughout this entire process. I also want to give a huge shoutout to the front desk, especially Leslie! She is absolutely amazing and on top of everything. She keeps me updated, makes sure I understand what's happening, and is always transparent about pricing so I know what to expect with every charge. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. My experience was extremely disappointing. They seem more focused on taking your money than caring about their patients. The cost ended up being much higher than what was discussed at the clinic. I was later charged additional amounts through my insurance that I did not agree to. They may ask you to follow up by message, but when you send your concerns, they never respond. When you call and ask to speak with Dr. Chen, the doctor is never available. I have been with my current dentist since 2014, and he has performed deep cleanings, fill-ins, root canals, application of crowns (with and without bridges), and tooth implants for me. Recently, after a regular cleaning, my dentist mentioned it was time to do a root canal and crown on one of my teeth. Due to the deterioration and recession of my gums around the tooth, he also suggested it was better to do it with a specialized endodontist this time. The endodontist's office referred by my dentist was a little far from Sugar Land, so I decided to look for one myself. That was where the nightmare started. I was impressed by Dr. Chen's professional profile and the almost perfect google review of Delight Dental. So, I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Chen on July 2nd. After meeting with Dr. Chen shortly, I told her the specific reason for my visit was to do a root canal and crown on one of my teeth due to the deterioration and gum recession. After a full mouth X-ray and gum diagnosis, Dr. Chen explained the situation of my gums and suggested deep cleaning, along with wearing a night guard on my lower teeth. After that, she passed a bill estimation with a $422 Copay to sign. Here is the cost in detail: deep cleaning was $310 per quad, $1240 in total before insurance, $250.40 after, and the lower-teeth night guard is $850 before and $171 after insurance. I have Cigna Dental Insurance with 80% coverage for deep cleaning and root canal treatment. I realized the front-desk clerk didn't mention Dr. Chen was an out-of-network dentist because I had never paid more than half the price for deep cleaning after insurance. I hesitated to sign, but still did, hoping she could come out with a professional treatment plan while being considerate of my tight work schedule. After Dr. Chen performed the deep cleaning for me, I was surprised that I had to meet another doctor for a lower teeth night guard. For the past fifteen years, the dentists I have met with could perform deep cleaning, cavity filling, tooth extraction, root canal, crown, etc. independently most of the time. Without explaining the trade-off of shaving down the teeth, he did it for the two bottom teeth with weak roots and could move around. They had not even warned me about this before the process, and had only mentioned I would need a night guard. Before leaving the office, I paid the bill, expecting another appointment for a root canal and crown with Dr. Chen. I was shocked that she expected me to visit her in October for another regular cleaning! Not a single word about a root canal and crown treatment plan. After reaching home, I immediately called Cigna and realized my insurance benefits were almost maximized after one visit to Delight Dental. The two teeth that were shaved down have been giving me a lot of pain since then. I haven't been able to eat anything hot or cold due to their sensitivity. As I mentioned before, my initial intention in making the appointment with the Periodontist, Dr. Chen, was to get root canal treatment for my teeth with gum recession. However, after only a deep cleaning and a night guard for the lower teeth, I am unable to have any treatments other than regular cleaning because my dental insurance benefits were almost maximized. Furthermore, the two shaved-down teeth will give me pain till the end of my life, as enamel cannot grow back. Dr. Chen, I have had deep-cleaning performed many times by my previous general dentist in the last fifteen years. Why did I need to do it with you at such an expensive cost? What is the reason you provided a patient with one of the worst treatments of shaving down two already damaged teeth? Was it because it might be helpful in gum recession, based on your limited and theoretical knowledge? Do you have enough practical dental experience to perform root canal treatment for teeth with gum recession? If not, please do not accept the patient! Delightful maybe...but all they really care about is your money. I am older and even though I brush and floss twice a day I developed gum disease. I went to see Dr Chen for Osseous surgery although she said my condition was not that advanced. She quoted me a price of $7540 dollars that along with my insurance contribution would have meant more than $10 thousand dollars in revenue for Delight dental. I really liked Dr Chen but I am on a fixed/limited income and cannot afford this much money, so I went and got another quote, this one was for $5k out of pocket. However, this Dr was a white male with large hands and quite frankly I would prefer to have Dr Chen do the work. To pay the cost I would have to withdraw from my very limited retirement income and even the $5k put me in a bad spot. I called Dr Chen's office and pleaded for a lower price. Please keep in mind that this is not an elective or cosmetic procedure, it is something to save the bones in my teeth and also the gum disease is causing me to develop severe cystic acne. I implored the office staff to compromise the price, but all I got was a terse "we won't reduce our price" and that was the end of the conversation. They could have at least met me half way. Sadly I now have no choice but to go with the other health care provider. I really wanted to go with Dr Chen, a woman of color, but it seems I am now stuck with a white guy with big hands wrenching away in my mouth. So much for the pay gap! And this only reinforces the public view that Dr's are greedy. Now I am certain that Delight's response will be that their equipment and training were expensive....and I believe that to be true, but at the end of it all they put money before my health. Prior to going to that office, like many other people, I was afraid of dentists. I did my Implant there. Everything was fine, until she put the crown on. The crown didn't fit, so upon biting, the Implant got loose. Dr. Chen wanted the Implant out & a new one in for $1300.
