Nice family run donut shop that's well set up for these times with a drive-thru window. We were camping at a nearby state park and we're so happy to find this early-open breakfast spot... there are few options in the area that aren't chain fast food. The doughnuts are light and we're warm when we picked them up. We also got an Apple Fritter that reheated well the next morning after we'd moved on to Florida. They also have other breakfast items, but it seems that the donuts are the only items made at this location, so we stuck to those. Two words: Drive through! They have a great assortment of donuts and you can go in or drive through and it's a convenient t location with good parking. I was immediately greeted with a warm smile as I pulled up to the drive through. My friend Tammy had told me about the maple bacon donut I did not see it in the menu and asked her if she had it. She said "yes". She quickly packaged my donut and rang me up and I was on my way. I typically get plain glazed or kolaches when I come here but curiosity was killing me so.... I absolutely adore this amazing little business. The donuts are always fresh and delicious, and the staff is so incredibly kind. Recently, they have taken to crafting these amazing donuts with breakfast cereals on top as decoration, and they are SO good! My husband surprised me with a fruity pebbles donut one morning, and I was so excited, I forgot to take a picture. ;) They also always have fresh, Community Coffee, great kolaches, and yummy breakfast sandwiches. Such a cute little spot. The bright pink exterior just makes you smile. Right when we walked in, my husband and I were chatting about the food menu (they also offer breakfast sandwiches). My toddler walked right up to the donut window and started to say, 'I want this one, this one, this one.' The lady behind the counter started packaging the selected donuts. My favorite donut is the apple fritter, but I haven't had one from them that I don't like. The new owners are some of the sweetest people I've ever met. They truly care about what they do and continually strive to make your donut experience as good as possible. I've never had kolaches before, but now I am hooked! All three of my kids love them too! This place has the best donuts at reasonable prices. The donuts are so much better than Dunkin' Donuts and their coffee is even better too. They keep the donuts in a glass case so the flies aren't getting at them and they are always making fresh ones in house. The lady that took my order was very nice. As of now they only put glazed donuts on display probably because of COVID. So you just have to ask for a maple syrup glaze or a chocolate glaze and they'll take that to get it made. I like this approach a lot! The donuts tasted so delicious! It really doesn't get better than that. The gentleman behind the counter offered to warm it for me and I'm glad he did. This little donut shop is a real sweet gem. The prices are just right and the quality is supreme--far better than the big guys and their paper tasting fluff. These pastries have real flavor and spice. We visited on a Sunday around noon. The case was half full of fresh offerings but still the variety abounded. Everything from filled, to glazed, to fritters, to breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Community Coffee is offered here. Also a variety of several bottled cold drinks, juices and milks in the cooler. If you like "kolachie"* they have big beautiful ones here--it's a true art in making the dough wrapping around the sausage. The glazed donut dough has a great flavor with a hint of nutmeg. This is the mark of craftsmanship. Even the big guys don't bother to add the extra ingredients to stand out. The cake donuts are crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. But let me mention the fritters. Superb! Fritter fans know that crisp, fried dough soaked in glaze while hot to absorb the icing and a dark brown rich color for flavor is key. It should be somewhat chewy but not tough and bumpy nooks and crannies should abound. You got 'em here! These are fabulous. North Carolina has the Ugly (Apple Baking Co.), Northern New England has their farm fresh famous apple fall fritters, and in the Deep South we have our funnel cakes. I submit that these fritters are in the same class of gotta try a sack-full. Easy to find, don't hesitate to stop at this wonderful shop. *A word about "kolachie". This pastry has become a big hit in recent years. In the US it hails from the Czech regions of Texas. Kolaches (small purse in Czech) are actually similar to the Danish in appearance; that is the open baked fruit or cheese filling is in the middle of the pastry. Kolache dough though is more light, airy, and eggy. It has a distinctive taste of fermented yeast and the fruits (or poppy seeds) are always made from dried ones that have been reconstituted. These pastries usually are a traditional winter treat because the dough is notoriously sticky and fast rising. My Grandma was a master at making them. Klobasnek is made with the same dough but a piece of sausage is wrapped inside of it--herein now known as the popular "kolachie" or other spelling variations noted throughout the US. So if you are in a Czech settled region of the US or in Eastern Europe note that the pastries will be somewhat different if you ask for them there. As a Czech American we grew upon these. It is worth seeking out the real ones when you travel. But nether-the-less the evolved name of the sausage pastry "kolachie" is well worth the try here at Delicious Donuts. When I had my bakery we sold out of them almost every day. Get yours before they do. And have them heat them up if you aren't lucky enough to get one fresh from the oven! read more
