I began my personal training at Definitions (58th Street location) back in May of 2011. As I approach my 4th anniversary there, I'm extremely proud of the progress they've helped me make in my overall fitness level. I feel terrific. Before starting at Definitions, I hadn't been to a gym in many, many years. I was really nervous about what to do, how to do it and my overall lack of appearing "fit". I delayed doing anything for way too long. After finally getting the courage and considering my options, I decided that training with a personal trainer was probably the right experience for me. I didn't like the idea of going to a big chain gym and wanted a more one-on-one experience. As a middle-aged guy, I wanted to avoid injuries too. Utilizing fitness professionals seemed like the prudent option. I chose to try Definitions 58th Street after seeing their advertisements and web site. I had my first introductory session and was immediately hooked. The personal trainers there are dedicated and knowledgeable professionals. They are not transient and I still have the same trainer that I started with 4 years ago. This is key for me since they get to know your aches, pains and afflictions. This personal history prevents over-training and possible injury. Can't put a price on that in my opinion. My trainer is Matt. He is simply a fantastic individual. He's a former semi-professional athlete as I understand it and formally educated in fitness. I've also trained with Garry and Andrew on many occasions when Matt's been vacationing or at his off-site fitness training events. They are equally great! I've never been to the other locations, but the 58th Street facility is large and modern with all the equipment you could ever possibly want. It never feels crowded either. As I look back, I'm extremely pleased with the progress I've made with Definitions, my personal trainer Matt and my own can-do attitude. I can't say enough good things about Definitions. I've been struggling with diets and on again/off again workout routines for a good three years trying to get back in shape before signing up here. I can honestly say that training with Bobby at Definitions has been the only thing that's stuck. I like working out but can get bored easily, but the workouts I've had here have been varied and challenging and I find myself actually looking forward to my appointments. Bobby also has a way of talking about food and how to balance healthy eating with still living your life that just clicked and has really made a difference for me. The space is no nonsense with good equipment and is never too crowded, but also is not over the top and intimidating. I struggled with the cost when first signing up, but made the commitment and it's been worth every penny. After three solid months of Definitions, I'm already about halfway to my initial goal, and already thinking about how much further I can go. Such a great place to come for an individualized and focused workout with caring trainers who push you while watching your every move. Great energy and a friendly team where everyone greats you by name and makes you welcome no matter if your a professional athlete or just starting out to improve your strength, balance and fitness goals ( like me !) My trainer Ari is fantastic - she is very aware of my post meniscus surgery limitations and tailors my workouts to get the most benefit for me, building strength and introducing cardio with careful oversight. She's encouraging, supportive and fun - which is not how I used to describe my gym experience before finding Ari and Definitions ! Definitions is the best fitness-oriented gym I have ever belonged to (and that's after over 30 years of memberships in New York City). Their three facilities are spotlessly clean, spacious, thoroughly equipped, and entirely devoted to one-on-one sessions with very capable trainers, many of whom have long working relationships with their clients. I took a ten-year break from Definitions at one point, and when I came back, many of the same trainers were still happily employed there. The hour-long sessions are tailored to your age, fitness level, medical concerns, and goals. The trainers expect hard work and keep the workouts varied -- this isn't cookie-cutter fitness or babysitting fitness or social-venue fitness -- it's real condition-changing fitness. A steady diet of personal training is, of course, expensive, but the results are real, and current clients are welcome to use the cardio equipment at Definitions on their own time at no charge. read more

I've been working out at Definitions, Lexington Avenue location for the past 4 years. The trainers are extremely professional and work with clients to tailor a training program suitable for the client's needs. The training program itself is adaptable and the trainers are always willing to work with you to adjust it for you. Personally, I think the adaptability of the workout regimen is a huge benefit. Life is full of changes, why should your workout be any different? The environment in the gym itself is very professional and supportive. All trainers and clients are friendly, judgement free and willing to offer helpful advice. During my time here, I've worked out primarily with Arick who's an awesome and energetic trainer. I have to say when I first walked into Definitions on 58th and Lexington I was a tad reluctant to say the least, but once I had met the trainers I still wasn't convinced. So stood for a training session; and I couldn't have been more short sighted in my initial appraisal. The staff was most courteous, obliging and personal, and the trainers were energetic, motivational and extremely grounded. The facilities were immaculate and even at the busiest times in the afternoon never became overly crowded. Right after my first workout here, I canceled my NYSC passport the next day, Overall a great decision!!! I have been training at Definitions for about two and a half years (both at Union Square and Midtown). During my time at Definitions I have primarily trained with Eric. I had previously trained at another NYC gym and the difference in quality was very noticeable. Eric is extremely professional, motivating, knowledgeable, and engaging; and the facilities/equipment at Definitions are clean and up-to-date. I used to just try to get to the gym, but now training at Definitions is the highlight of my week. I also have a hectic work week, so Eric helps me make the most out of my workout. I am very pleased with my results, and am definitely more toned and stronger. I was intimidated at first to go to a private training gym until I had my first meeting at Definitions. The space feels like your own "home" gym. The entire staff of trainers are welcoming and knowledgeable. The space is clean, the equipment is well maintained and they have a big locker room with multiple shower stalls. The gym is never too crowded on weekday evenings or Saturdays. There is always enough space for your own one on one experience. Best Training Gym In the City. I have trained with Bobby Moriggia and one of the owners, Garry. They are two of the best, most professional trainers in th city. They are great motivators and very fun. I miss them when I am not working out there. Additonally, I recently had an injury and Garry put me back together again. Bobby and Garry are the absolute best. I came to Definitions after having spinal fusion surgery. I had done all the physical therapy I was supposed to do but, still had some pain. I also could not play golf or ski. Andrew started working with me and really knew what to do. He is well trained and pushes you as hard as you allow him to. The end result is I now can play 36 holes in a day without any pain. I also am back to skiing pain free. If you are willing to do the work they will get you the results you want. I would highly recommend Andrew. read more

I started at Definitions in 2016 and have been going once a week ever since. I absolutely love the place - it's the only gym that actually gets me to leave my desk to exercise. Last year I decided that I was too flabby and needed to tone up my body. I wanted muscular definition, but I didn't belong to a gym, and didn't really know many exercises. Definitions is a terrific gym. Carlos has been my trainer for 2 1/2 years and I highly recommend him to anyone who is serious about getting in shape.
