If you haven't heard of Krav Maga then attend a lesson and you'll soon be spreading the word…read more The self defence training at West Coast Krav Maga is second to none (IMHO) and the classes have a great sense of comradery. The instructor has achieved many accolades in a long career in Martial Arts and brings those unique skills and experience to enhance the Krav Maga training. The increase in my fitness and confidence has brought about a type of serene karma in my everyday life. There is a Krav Maga motto that states So as one may walk in peaceand i now do.

New machines, weights room, separate exercise zones, plenty for a work out from beginners to the more experienced. The staff can advise a routine to suit: cardio, fitness, weight loss or toning up or stress relief. By booking ahead, the gym is busy but never overcrowded, with a friendly atmosphere (and this is coming from someone VERY self-conscious of my appearance when I first joined). Another important aspect: membership is really good value. Membership allows members to go as often as they want. Plus different options to suit.

We would get miraculously fitter whilst chatting about love, life and all that jazz. Instead, I was blooming awful at it. No balance whatsoever, which is pretty integral when you have to spin round and kick someone. Plus the first half was just bog standard exercise which absolutely knackered me out so that I had even less chance of doing well in the actual kick boxing. Obviously this was pretty funny for everyone else. Needless to say I did not get a belt. They cater for all levels and the instructor was very patient when it came to showing us what to do with the gloves and where exactly we were going wrong. Still a little scary though...

They also offer classes for kids and women only classes. It's a gym where you can really get your head down or get your head kicked in depending on what you prefer. There's a 50ft matted area so you can hone your technique without cramping the 250lb behemoth's style who is displaying his aptitude for punching stuff really hard. If you're a genuine MMA-er then there's a 24ft cage to get as close as you can to the real thing. A solid, reliable gym for the committed martial artist, uncompromising lifter and dedicated fitness fanatic.

Wing Chun Kung Fu Classes, Manchester…read more Wing Chun Kung Fu is a very, very clever Martial Art. I have been studying Wing Chun Kung Fu in Manchester for about 4 years. I have tried other Martial Arts, but have found none as simple, direct and effective as Wing Chun. My Sifu (Darryl Moy) has been studying Wing Chun for over 20 years, as well as teaching for a great number of years. This shows in his knowledge and skill. I would reccomend this class to anyone, interested in learning Martial Arts, either to improve their health, themselves, or for self-defence. The classes are in the centre of Manchester, and as such are easy to get to from anywhere served by the metrolink, or buses or trains. If you would like to learn Wing Chun Kung Fu, it is well worth coming along to this class in Manchester, especially if you are looking for traditional Wing Chun.

We at our office (Sale Print FX in Manchester) wanted to start taking MMA classes. There's seven of us who have never trained in MMA before and we're not what you would describe as tough bunch. Anyway, we contacted The MMA Academy in Liverpool as we heard that those guys have some of the best MMA training facilities and instructors in the northwest and we heard that are putting together corporate MMA packages. 9 of us travelled to Liverpool for a 2 day beginners training package. The sessions were 5 hours per day which seems frightening but we went through the main martial arts that MMA applies. We began learning basic defensive and attacking moves for Muay Thai Boxing, Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, how to integrate those disciplines. UFC Star Jason Tan was our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach (OMG!!) we had the immense ex British Muay Thai Boxing champ Peter Davies for Thai and the (GSP LIKE) Al Sheperd for wrestling. This was like a dream come true for us guys as we have actually watched theses guys compete and now they are teaching us!!! The two days were absolutely amazing introduction to MMA for us. The corporate package meant we were trained personally and had the gym to ourselves. Think some of the guys in the office were worried about some Brock Lesnar kinda guy wanting to make us tap out ! It wasn't like that at all. Our anxieties were soon gone and we engaged in the most brillian sporting experience ever. I was bleedin' knackered after like but I suppose that WAS the intention! We get to Liverpool twice a week now an Jason Tan is getting three of us into his Ground Control Grappling event as novices which we are really looking forward to do. Jason, Peter, AL and Ryan thanks lads. it has been amazing to get into MMA. The gym and coaches ROCK!! If you are serious about getting into MMA the check out The MMA Academy in Liverpool at http://www.mmaliverpool.com it's absolutely amazing and they are just opening a new MMA Store for summer 2011!!
