If they don't want to post a squad to show that they care about the safety of the citizens that pay their salaries it would be nice if they would actually come to a complete stop and obey the rules of the road. It's tough enough to teach your kid to drive but then when they call out the police in our town that sucks! It also doesn't teach them to respect authority! I would also suggest that some brush up on some laws. It is okay to not know everything but when a situation presents itself to learn something and get educated to show you care about what you signed up to do, you should probably take it! I'm no Spring chicken but my day doesn't feel complete until I learn something new! A commander who raises his voice and talks over you and has no idea what the definitions of some words are is absolutely irresponsible, irritating and disgraceful!! That is your job sir! When things get heated you are supposed to calm the situation!! I always am a respectful, kind and empathetic person. If you think I will not continue to express my extreme disappointment, perhaps you should get to know me better!! All I can think is... if my husband called can I believe he would speak to him in the same tone? Would he tell him he was wrong and would he talk over him? Not sure, that wasn't the case but my gut tells me he would have spoke more like an adult who protects this community!!! So, after speaking to 2 Commanders I feel let down. I did miss a couple phone calls but I have no voicemails. I am not an officer so I also don't know everything but I'm wondering when an investigation consists of listening to me and showing clear forgery and identity theft documents I have secured and then just taking the time to call the person who is an insurance agent and just get his side of the story with no proof and say that there is not an issue!! I hope that I am wrong about others that do care and take the time to assist and protect this community. I am sure they are there, when your commander reacts and handles things in a certain way it really makes someone worry about what is important to the Deerfield Police Department? Sitting in the Church and library parking lots ? Not sure, just my observations over the last 3 years‍

I was only there to find out where I could Vote, since my normal voting place wasn't open. She screamed at me the Building was Closed & didn't I know people were dying. I stayed back, and again asked her if she knew where I could Vote! She just started Screaming at me again! All this while 3 guys were walking in & out with dollies delivering or removing things from the building. (They were not wearing gloves or masks as they brushed against this Nasty woman!) West Deerfield Township overspent $$$$ to build this Public Building! They are ALWAYS nasty & rude to Citizens who pay for their salaries! This woman Should be FIRED immediately! It is my Right to Vote! And it's their Duty to furnish the information ! The Building Should NOT be closed as it's also the Community Food Pantry. It's their job to stay open and HELP the Community

I was led to believe that Townships serves the community by representing government at its best -…read moreby listening to the customer with compassion, by being responsive and accountable. But to my surprise, on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, I was at receiving end of disrespectful and horrible treatment at West Deerfield Township. I am an African woman, I needed a passport service quickly as I was going to Mexico July 7th. I came to West Deerfield Township location on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, with my husband (who is Caucasian) and my son for this service. On Monday, June 25th, I received the passport back from the government due to an error made by their staff. I returned to their office on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, to get it rectified, I was told that no one is on duty to assist me. I was appalled by the treatment that I received by the staff, I was told, "we can't help you", I was trying to explain the urgency of the situation, I was told that they don't care about my urgency. I was told to go to another location to get it corrected which I did, but I had to pay another processing fee. I called back on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, to talk to Peggy about the process of getting the processing fee refunded from West Deerfield Township, she told me there will be no refund and there is nothing she could do for me. She gave me the government's office phone number and told me to call there to complain, when I tried to discuss the issue further with her, she hung up on me. Just like the other staff in their office the day before on Tuesday, she was rude and unprofessional. I called back to speak to a supervisor, I was sent to a voicemail, I still yet to receive a call back. I sent an email of my concerns to their trustee members. Two days later, I received a refund of my processing fee check in the mail without a note or a phone call of a remorse or apology for their unprofessional behavior. As residents in the community paying taxes and needing the services that these townships provide, we deserve the quality service with respect and compassion regardless of our race, nationality, or gender.

It's not every day that your kids get to shoot hoops with your local police officer on duty, but…read morewhere I live that really happened at my house! I'll be honest. I live in a fairly upscale community, where I'm certain the officers have to deal with a ton of "interesting" complaints. We've had a couple of incidences this year that led us to reach out to the department, and they've been quick to come to our house and respond, and the next day they even gave us a follow up phone call...and once a follow up visit. During one incident, where a ton of people in the neighborhood got their unlocked cars broken into (ours being one of them), the cops went door to door making sure everyone was okay and asked a million questions, etc. We had another incident that involved a more "ridiculous" matter, and though I'm pretty sure they had never dealt with that one, they still handled it like champs. Here's where they've failed us on two occasions. Somehow, and they were wrong, we got one warning and one ticket for "apparently" not stopping at a stop sign. I swear they were wrong, but we didn't want to argue. Though I'm sure there is so much drama that goes on behind closed doors, as with any police unit...I know from watching way too much Chicago PD (haha...I know it's just a TV show), I appreciate the personalized attention that comes with living in my community. You'll see these guys out and about driving everywhere, policing schools, driving by parks, and apparently stopping by for the occasional basketball competition ;-) Extra special bonus, the police station is right down the street!

I have seen the Northbrook USPS main office on Dundee in its heyday having four agents/postal…read moreworkers staffing the counter, and I still have fond memory of one postal worker whose looks and mannerism were exactly like Mr. Rogers. I believe he has retired a couple of years ago. With the USPS's on-going cost-cutting effort, nowadays the counter is just staffed with one member most of the time (by different people), and you may see two on some lucky days. This has led to longer waiting time, and the service level varies quite a bit, depending on whom you are dealing with. One of the staff members there has the practice of asking customers to rate her service in front of her (using a "smiley face machine"), sometimes even before the transaction begins. This would create pressure for customers to give her good ratings, and this should not be the way the survey is done. To be fair, the rating machine should be placed away from the staff, near the front door exit. Fortunately, with the advance of technology, people can accomplish a lot of the mailing services online. My wife recently needed to mail a couple of CDs, and we have found a cheaper way of mailing packages. On the USPS website, you can use "Click-N-Ship" to print mailing labels and pay for the shipment. The shipping fee for one CD (4 oz) using this method is $4.50. However, if we had taken it to the post office without the prepaid label and did it with an agent at the counter, it would have been $7.20 for the same size and weight. We could either arrange for a pickup from home, or drop off the packages at the post office. Just for the peace of mind, my wife preferred to have the packages dropped off so she could ask a staff member to scan the packages. Actually, you can just leave the packages in one of those mail bins/boxes without having a staff member scanning them, because there are tracking numbers on the prepaid mailing labels. We are glad that we could save some shipping fees by using the "Click-N-Ship" online.

Recently, I had to drop off a returned package at the USPS in Northbrook.  There was only one staff…read moremember behind the counter, a tall and thin middle-age black woman, whom I have encountered numerous times in the recent years.  As soon as I walked up and put the package on the counter, without any greetings to me, this woman pointed to a tablet in between her and me, and said "do the survey" in a tone that was like ordering me.  There were 3 emojis in the tablets, a smiley face, a neutral face, and an unhappy one.  I was unprepared, in a hurry, and didn't have time to think or ask, and just hit the smiley face.  She then scanned my package, gave me a receipt and said "here you go".  I said "thanks", and she said "you are welcome", and that was it.  What kind of survey was that?  How could they expect the customer to do a survey before any service was done?  What's the purpose of doing such a survey?  And doing the survey right in front of the staff member was just awkward!  It rendered the survey meaningless. This USPS used to be fully staffed back in the day.  There were a couple of friendly staff members whom I truly miss.
