I would like to point…read moreout that during her stay that the majority of the staff showed a great deal of care and empathy so she could feel comfortable in her final days. Almost all those who cared for her when I was present did so in a very professional manner upon my observation. Overall I feel it is an excellent facility though I do have a few questions. I noticed that there are not any cameras there. One morning when I arrived earlier than usual and there was a situation I found alarming in my mother's room so I approached the only staff I saw present at the time to alert her. The staff member did not seem happy that I pointed what I saw out and was belligerent. I wanted to report this yet when I tried I was told that the staff member said I invaded her personal space which I didn't and that there were witnesses. Actually though I never invaded her space and since her and I were the only ones in the room I don't see how there could have been witnesses. Saying this though highlights the fact that if there were cameras it would allow those in charge to see what really happened. Safety inside and outside of facilities like this is important for many reasons.

While I was visiting, I called the nurse to question them on why my aunts foot was so swollen it was cracking, and in the 2 hours I was there NO ONE came to her room. I am a current resident who's been at Bella Terra Wheeling for a little more than thirteen months. I have seen Mike, Kandi, Nikki, Yesenia, Jocelyn, Fran, and Michelle work very hard to keep this facility running. Many of the nurses and CNAs provide good support to care for the patients at this nursing/rehabilitation home. I have seen the staff as a team handle multiple situations to provide care and comfort for the patients. I also want to say that I am impressed with the Activity and Receptionist team members as they provide more layers of assistance and cohesiveness to help form a strong employee base. One of the benefits of living and recuperating at this facility is that the meals are decent. I lived at another home before transferring here and the food is actually much better. I get meals with chicken as the main course far more than I used to at the previous rehab center. And I get fresh salads more often as well. Bella Terra Wheeling also has staff members in place to help with setting up doctor appointments and transportation. For an independent person like myself, I don't utilize all of the services available but I am very glad that many residents do have access to these benefits. I want to close out my review with a huge thank you to each and every staff member for being patient and understanding with me and many of the residents as caring for us can be quite challenging at times. Thank you very much!

I was so hesitant on leaving her at Bella Terra as I did not know anything about her condition which was Dementia and Bella Terra. I had no clue how to take care of my mom as she was uncontrollable and hard to reason with. I am also a really hard person to deal with as I fight for every living breath for my family and try to prolong their life as much as I can. I want to say Thank you to Angelina, my lovely angel nurse Daisy, nurse Raj and many more nurses and CNAs that took care of my mom. Daisy you of all people I owe a huge apology to by not cooperating with you especially. You guys saw my mom slipping away to cancer and dementia and I tried to fight for her life and I was wrong. Hospice gave her freedom and relief from her pain and I tried to hold on and gave grief to you and Angelina. You guys were angels to put up with me. God bless you both as you truly are beautiful people inside and out. Daisy I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking such good care onf my mom. Bella Terra not only cares for their patients , their nurses go above and beyond for caring for people with dementia and help bring their life to reality. Every visit I saw big involvement with patients from care, food service, entertaintment, physical therapy. These patients would not have a life at home the way they get cared for at Bella Terra. These are my parting words. The care you will receive will be exceptional and the nurses they have here deserve pay of a celebrity with the care they provide for patients with severe mental and physical disabilities. They are truly angels and I was glad to meet every one of you especially Daisy and have you care for my mother. I love you all from the bottom of my heart and will consider you all part of my family.

When I call, they always answer and are kind enough to let me speak with my dad, which means so much to me. The memory care unit itself is clean, well-maintained, and always smells fresh. Caring.com put Harbor House in touch with me and from the moment I spoke with Savannah, the executive director, I knew this place was special. Savannah actually did the assessment at the big, fancy, expensive nursing home and confirmed what I already suspected. We moved her out of there and Savannah actually drove out there and helped me move her stuff and my mom (I was visiting mom out of town). Over the next few days, I got a very up-close look at Harbor House and how the staff interacts with their residents. I popped in at unexpected times and walked through the adjacent buildings. I never saw a deviation from the excellence of care I saw the first time - not even once. I never saw residents mistreated or spoken to condescendingly, like I did at the other place. The caregivers are amazing women. Sam, Becky, Brittany, are really hands on nurses. Sam spent tons of time with me, discussing my mother's medications. The doctors call you and I spoke with Dr. Ernst about my mom for an hour! I couldn't even get the doctor at the big, fancy place to return my call! The place is small and it's warm and cozy - like a previous commenter said, it's not like an institution at all. It's like a home. My mom has an adorable sunny, private room with her own bathroom. She's always got someone there to help her. All I can say about this place except is that it's exceptional. I have learned that big, fancy nursing homes are usually understaffed and can't manage the needs of their patients. This place CARES for their patients. I don't need crystal chandeliers and big lobbies. I need individualized care with people who treat the elderly like the human beings they are. Harbor House does this. The owner of this facility needs to be very proud of his staff and his philosophies. I hope they never change. Amazing place.
